I am going to be picking up a light this saturday ... I have a 2x4x5 tent ... I have a 175 cfm fan running thru a carbon filter ... my tent has LOTS of neg pressure ... I was planning on getting a 400w HPS (air cooled) but now Im thinking I should go with a 600w ... am I going to have trouble exhausting heat with a 4" oracle blower fan ??

600 will be too much for that fan.

Thanks .. thats what I thought ... its kinda hard not to want to go to the 600 when they are practically the same cost ... Im gonna stick with the 400w ... thats almost 3 times what I got now ... so I know I will be happy ...

currently using 2 70w HPS lights (home depot) and 6 cfl 's ...

If you have a mag ballast you can run a ceramic metal halide which have gotten very good reviews from folks on icmag. The cri on the cmh is like 3 times the cri of a hps. They also run alot cooler than hps and run on hps ballast only in 400w.

I cool my 1000w with a 4" fan and it is no problem whatsoever. As long as its not hooked up to a filter you are good to go.

Just for a point of information; you can cool a 600 with even a Dayton 265 so cool its only barely warm on the glass, while I had this as an extra exhaust fan from a different set-up ant decent inline will do the trick. I like Elicents. Now don't try the 265 on a 1k its worthless. In considering lights factor the possible futures, as well as lumens per watt and bulb costs. Many of us use 600's very well.
