Rep Power: 69231 | Tom Kikuchi Receives Reprive From Hell Last Friday, as many of you know, Tom Kikuchi was given fifteen minutes notice that he would be moved from the Dyer Detention Center in Oakland. He was not allowed to keep any of his possessions save one piece of paper with some phone numbers on it. It was almost a full work week before he was allowed to contact anyone. He will be housed at Stephanie's Landa's facility, FCI Dublin, until sometime in January. In fact, when he's using the phones to call us, he can look out the window and see a section of the woman's camp, including a piece of the running track where they take their exercise. Dublin is an ancient facility. Those of you who have been following Stephanie's story know it to be a miserable place. However, it appears that the temporary detention center where Tom is, is newer and a much nicer facility than the women's camp. The food is "often edible". He shares a cell with one other person, who appears to be a sane and reasonable fellow. Though the cells are cold, the common areas are warm and he will order additional clothing in his next commissary. The opportunity to go outdoors, which rarely happened at Dyer, is a more common occurrence. However, these federal detention centers are temporary way stations, so they offer no programs or work. Tom will sit all day staring at a wall during this holiday season if we don't help. Please send your cards and letters to the address below. I know this is a busy and expensive time of year, but it only takes a minute to grab one of your Christmas cards and scrawl a brief note. If you are at your computer it's even easier, medicalmarijuanaofamerica.com has an e-mail program you can use to write to patient/prisoners including Tom. Books would also be most welcome, but they need to go out soon, as he anticipates being permanently assigned to another federal prison sometime in January. Barnes and Noble is the only on-line bookseller I know that will specifically send through the US mail, and this is a requirement of the prison. Only paperback books are allowed, no more than three to a package. They must come directly from the bookseller. I have a list, just PM me how many books you'd like to send, and/or if you have a dollar figure in mind, I'll send you the titles that correspond to your needs. Tom wanted to particularly thank all of you for the love and support while he was at Dyer. He asked me not to talk about the appalling conditions he was laboring under while he was there, he was afraid someone would tell his partner of forty years, Stephanie Landa. She's already in a great deal of physical pain. He wanted to spare her the emotional torment of knowing that thirty miles away from where she sat, he was being tortured pretty effectively as well. Both Tom and Stephanie are in federal prison for the crime of growing medicine for sick people. I will just tell you that of all the facilities he's been at, Dyer was the worst, and remember, this is a man who was at Santa Rita for awhile. For those of you with strong stomachs, the letters he wrote to me from Dyer will be published on-line. During those awful days and nights, letter, cards, and books came regularly. People made it very clear they wanted him to call collect no matter how expensive it was. So many friends gave money for commissary, that each week when the in-house commissary got stolen on its way to him, we could still order from an on-line commissary. People helped themselves to anything that came through the normal prison canteen system, packages would arrive with maybe 1/3rd of what he'd ordered and paid for. Without the support from all of you there would not have been enough money to supplement with this additional, life sustaining food. If he is alive and in any kind of stable mental shape, it's because of your efforts on his behalf. It was a long and miserable period. His spell at Dyer comprises more than half of his incarceration time to date. Tom has been housed at four different facilities since August. He thanks you all from the bottom of his heart for getting him through it. Tom's address is: Tom Kikuchi Inmate Number: 92479-011 FCI Dublin 5701 8TH ST Dublin, CA 94568 |

Rep Power: 124 | Re: Tom Kikuchi Receives Reprive From Hell It is truly insane that our federal government has elected to capture and imprison people who grew MMJ for the sick and people in pain, dying and in desperate need. Absolutely bonkers. The fact that my tax dollars are stolen for this adventure in racism, fascism and political oppression is even worse- if, indeed, anything can be worse than depriving a person of their freedom for the crime of growing plants while our federal government goes its merry way committing war crimes, polluting the world and otherwise acting like a bloated pig, without fear of reprisal or recrimination. In this year-end holiday season, as we all can take a much-needed breather from our fast paced lives, we should all make a promise to ourselves and each other-- that 2008, the year of many elections, must be the year we return sanity to our federal government, whether they like it or not. Get out the vote and get people to understand that their vote can change this madness- indeed, their vote is the ONLY way to change this madness. Let's take back America, WT'ers! |

Rep Power: 3822 | Well, I'm glad I "Inspired" someone to write Tom! 8-) I had to re-send the card as it got returned, just ended up putting it in another envelope - which he got and wrote me back saying "Thanks" + they're going to send him somewhere else in a week or two! =UGH! I just wrote him letter #2 and said for us to keep in touch, no matter where he ends up! He now knows, I write to Stephanie, too! <[8-D =Judy= (In_Hollywood) |
