question re: medical records

I'm thinking about purchasing life insurance. On the application it asks if I'm taking prescription medication, does mmj count? Do my medical records show my mmj recommendation? Just curious. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

well techinically you dont have to divulge that information I dont believe as it is not a prescription you have for MMJ but a recommendation. They only doctor that would have your rec on file is the doctor you got the rec from.

This is just an assumption, so hopefully someone with more knowledge in this will jump in here.

Re: question re: medical records

In most cases, it's not listed unless you've divulged to one of your doctors that you use MMJ. Then you may have something listed, but I'm not sure if it would stand out to a life insurance agent. The bigger issue is the "are you a smoker" question. This is what will drive up your premium and is pretty much unavoidable, unless you only occassionally use or your sure you won't die from anything smoking related. Be careful though, if you answer "no" to smoking and they find out when you die that you did smoke, it might be grounds for them not holding to the contract of paying out the life insurance.

Good luck!

Thanks Dubious! On the policy I'm considering, it doesn't ask if I'm a smoker, but it does ask if I use nicotine in any form. I know there's no nicotine in mmj, so by answering no I should be safe, no?

Yeah, your fine if that's how they ask on the paperwork, but just be aware some companies also like to have an interview (sometimes in person but mainly over the phone) to go over some of the questions with an agent. They may go about asking that question in a different manner, and if they do while implying anything to do with the general act of smoking, you may want to be careful of your answer. If they still ask but specify nicotine again then your cool though. I would also suggest you make a copy of the paperwork with your answers on it, just in case if at a later date they had to pay out, and they try to make a case that you are a smoker and failed to divulge the correct info, therefore nullifying the contract. Then your family could make a case that the wording didn't pertain to the general act of smoking, but specifically to nicotine, and they would be required to abide by the legal terms of the policy. I know it may seem a little to preemptive, but whenever your dealing with a corporation/business that makes their money on their policies, they'll find a legal loophole not to pay if they can, just like any other insurer.... I always say it's better to be safe then sorry. Good luck!

Exactly my friend, that's why I'm inquiring. Thanks for your input, and you too Medpatient.

Man, this stuff is tricky. It just sucks how you're forced to be sneaky about this crap when there's no real reason for it in reality. WTG insurance companies!
