I'm curious about what its like work behind the counter

Any dispensary employees here other than owners?

I'm curious to hear what it's like working "behind" the counter serving patients. Do we drive you batty?
What are the stress levels like for a job like this? Are you afraid of federal charges, having your house raided if the dispensary ever goes down? Without stating your actual salary, do you feel that you are compensated fairly for the risk you may be taking? Do you employers give health insurance or any benefits?

thank you in advance for being there and serving.

Thumbs up Re: I'm curious about what its like work behind the counter

I'll reply...

I was a volunteer at a co-op.

Most patients are very nice... You really get to know the regulars and what they like what they don't and so on...!!!

When I would was behind the counter...

It was my pleasure to show the patient any and all flower they wanted to see. I'm sure you all think that when you ask to see/smell the flower, it pisses us off. Well, me personally... I LOVE CANNABIS AND TALKING ABOUT IT...!!! Everytime I open a bottle for you... I always smell it too...

In the 6 months I helped out at the co-op, only 2 patients were OUT AND OUT MEAN!!! Mostly it's like the happiest place on earth!!! I made a lot of friends... learned alot about flower and started baking edibles.

As for the actual business end... I mind my own business... I was VERY FAIRLY COMPENSATED for my help... all in all...

IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!

Thanks Rachie ~
Glad to know that the majority of the patients were nice. Were you ever afraid of a raid?
As a brand new patient to this, I can't wait to make my exit.

from a former disp. employee - (that'd be me) - working in the dispensory itself is one of the most painful retail jobs ever. You're on your feet all day and while the patients are generally happy when they get to you it's often a long time coming (I worked at a very busy club) so a lot of times they're grumpy. Especially if you've run out of what they want, or didn't have it that day at all or, or, or. A lot of times you're dealing with folks with serious physical and/or mental health issues so you've really got to wear kid gloves. other times you're dealing with people mis-using the system and obviously just buying to resell - though there's nothing that you can do unless they actually incriminate themselves. in the other areas of a club the stresses are different - but no less, but at least outside of the disp itself you're not all in the patients faces.

Re: I'm curious about what its like work behind the counter

I dont work in a co-op anymore, but....
first of all.
I like to learn about the meds and try thrm befor hand so I can give a proper description of the meds. The hard part is, some people think they know EVERYTHING. for example. I had one chick come in and ask about OG once, i told her it was hydro, blah blah blah....... she comes at me with a stupid grin on her face and sez, "this is NOT hydro, i bought some last week and it did NOT look like this." she ended up leaving cause she felt we were bullshit. Little did she know, i knew the grower, and i was 110% positive he grew it in a hydro system. What she also didn't know is im a grower myself and know what the fuck im talking about. and by the things she was saying........ she had no clue about growing meds. Poor her because i havn't seen a batch of OG that kill since then. she lost out big time.

its stuff like that, that makes people grind there teeth.
I helped a few people with hearing problems, and that was acually fun because they were GREAT patients. extremely friendly. I never had to deal with someone who couldn't hear me. different.

sounds like my kind of job! i'm a regular at a certain co-op and have made a few friends there, one of which has offered to recommend me to the owner about a job.....is that a good way for it to possibly happen???? how did you get to volunteer at your co-op?

Re: I'm curious about what its like work behind the counter

Well regardless, I want to thank the people who work behind the counter. They have varying levels of friendliness, from being so happy to see you to only seeing you as a dollar sign. But these people are to do one thing, to give us meds that make us happy and eases our mental and physical pains. Hats off to the shopkeeper!
