Rep Power: 2527 | 1. What is WAMM? The Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM) is a collective of patients and caregivers, providing hope, building community, and offering medical marijuana at no cost to seriously ill patients with a doctor's recommendation. Our aim is to relieve suffering. We provide safe access to a safe, organic supply of medical marijuana for the treatment of terminal and chronic illness. We offer organic medicine, time worthy genetics grown in our collective garden and we do this all on a donation basis. 2. Do I qualify for WAMM? WAMM gives priority to patients who are terminally ill or under the care of Hospice, which means that the person is on their death bed or has less than 6 months to live. However, WAMM is accepting applications from people who are undergoing Chemotherapy and/or who are permanently or severely disabled. We attempt to serve the most seriously ill first. But we need capable members, patients and their caregivers who can volunteer, too. WAMM also gives priority to residents of Santa Cruz county, but residents of surrounding areas are okay too. 3. What obligations do I have as a WAMM member? Since WAMM is a collective, we run on the financial donations of our members, as well as volunteer time that our members, patients and caregivers donate to keep the collective alive. It is necessary to understand that WAMM finances make our ability to remain "open" based entirely on our ability to raise the cost of production. Therefore we ask our members to donate the cost of production (about one third the cost of the average dispensary). WAMM also holds weekly Support and Supply Meeting on Tuesday nights. that's where "everything" happens. At 6p the doors open, then at 6:30 our community meet begins, there is no pick up after 8:30. The meeting is where you can pick up your medicine, donate, talk, express needs, compare ideas, plan for WAMMfest or one of our yard sales or other events. The first Tuesday night of each month is POT Luck night, where we share stories and eat together. While we understand that someone who is bedridden cannot make our meetings, patients are encouraged to get a caregiver who can attend & help out WAMM and the patient. Some of the duties include; picking up medicine, donating or finding a sponsor to cover the cost of production, or volunteering on your behalf. 4. How Do I Apply? If you have read section 2 and 3 and think you can make a happy addition to our collective, please call our office at: 831-425-0580. We'll be happy, too. After applying by phone you will receive by mail an application and a recommendation that must be completed in full & returned to us. The application will go over things like medical condition and marijuana use and the recommendation is our triplicate form. We need the signed, original copy and the others are for you and your doctor. Please return only the original signed recommendation, as well as the application. Once when we receive these documents (application/recommendation) we must verify with your doctor that the information is correct. Once when your recommendation is verified, we will contact you to set up an appointment to meet with our Executive Director, Valerie Corral. She is one of the co-founders and has ultimate approval on who is accepted. 5. Whew, That Sounds Complicated... It really is not complicated. There are guidelines and protocols to which we must adhere. We take them seriously in order to precautions that we take to these protect you as a patient, as well as our collective. The whole process can ctually happen pretty quickly, depending on how fast you return the forms and how swiftly your doctor verifies the information. 6. Is it worth it? WAMM is a collective of patients who are going through the same thing you are. WAMM members are very supportive. Beyond providing medicine at our weekly Support and Supply Meeting, WAMM is a community where friendships are made and friends are lost. We have monthly potlucks on the first meeting of the month, we have weekly food pick-up of produce and other foodstuff available to our members, as well as numerous other services... It is definitely worth it. 7. How Can I Contact WAMM? Feel free to call us at 831-425-0580 or by email at info@wamm.org. |
