Rep Power: 10 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread I think that if you want to make a volcano back (props for thinking of the idea of a 5'7'' sized bag, that's pretty crazy), you have to get 3 or 4 different herb chambers. You fill the 1st one up and when it looks like it stopped producing that good vapor air, then put on the next one and keep goin. Also, when the air just sits in the bag for a while, it does get very stale and has a gnarly taste to it. How long, about, does it take to fill up that 5'7'' bag? |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread I set mine to 385-390 on the first vape, then set it 10 degrees higher each time and usually get 3 or 4 full balloons depending on how much herb i use and I save the roasted herb double the amount u can get another vape. I heard THC vaporizes at 356, and when i tried that it wasn't the right vapor density as described in the maual, maybe because the test was done with pure thc oil and u also have to heat up the plant matter to extract more thc. |

Rep Power: 1027 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread I have had my volcano for about 2 months now and I am enjoying it very much. I tried different size bags but have gone back to the size it comes set up with (just over a foot long). I feel that this size bag is easier to control, the vapor is fresher for each hit (you don't get that stale vapor taste like the guy with the 5'7" bag). I fill the chamber with enough meds to cover the bottom screen with about a 1/4 inch of ground meds, which gives me about 4 good, fresh bags full. I usually keep my setting on a 6-6.5 but will lower it for drier meds or turn it up for meds with more water content or to get a little more "smoke" content. The effects are very nice, and work perfectly for me most of the time. I say most of the time because I have always loved and used a water pipe so sometimes I just feel I need to use a bong. One problem I am having is that I can taste the nasties of meds that were not properly flushed, even more than other forms of ingestion. This is not the volcano's fault but has more to do with commercial growers. Sorry I know this is a little long, but I wil end by saying I do not regret my purchase at all, but can see how some may not like the whole process, so the best advice is to test one out at your favorite co-op, thanks all. |

Nice to see the friendly technician actually repairing Volcanos on-site there - not that I expect any problems soon... I have tried the Volcano several times at friends places before. Maybe its the insane purple I have now, but the Volcano seemed even better at home :) |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread Does anyone else hate to grind their fresh buds? I get some unkiefed Amsterdam Flame that really sparkles with big, plentiful crystals, and I can no longer bear to grind it up (and I have a decent grinder) before vaping. I'm not a chopstick poseur, but sometimes bills are tight, so I have to be really efficient with my meds, and I try not to touch them or transfer them any more than I have to. Now I try to just snap off a section of bud that will fill my solid valve chamber, drop it in, and vape at 6–6.5. Sometimes the first bag or two is a little weak, but the taste is fresh and yummy, and it makes a nice appetizer. By the third 2-foot Storz und Bickel bag, I’ve had plenty. Then I start to break the bud down a little, gently exposing more surface area with the brush handle, and the bags are really rich with vapor. I can keep nursing the bud for another five to eight bags, never going higher than 6.5. Between bags, I stir the chamber contents more vigorously each time, and by the time it’s lost potency, it has been ground down to about a quarter inch of brown powder with a few small stem chunks. But vaping in the 6 range is only the start. Once I’ve used up all my fresh buds, I’m left with a couple varieties of “leftovers” I can recycle at higher temps. First, the grounds, which I save. They don't smoke well at all. But when I've truly run out of everything else, I do the vaporizing equivalent of "smoking the resin" — in other words, it's not pleasant, but it works. From those saved, used, brown grounds, I sift out the stem chenks, fill my sold valve chamber to the top with brown powder, drop an extra screen on top to keep the dust down and vape at 8.5–9. As long as you fill the chamber to the top and vape it at the highest temps, this stuff is quite potent, but not for long — it's usually good for only about 3 or 4 bags. I suspect I'm at least partially combusting it at this point, but what the hell — it works. Potency for this stuff drops off rapidly lower than 8.25. I don't try to moisten it because in my foggy coastal clime, it's very easy to overhumidify it, reducing its delicate potency and easily making it taste harsh (if you use fruit rinds) or gross like sweaty socks (if you use bread or wet cotton). Dusty and dry isn't great, but it's reliable, easy and economical. Another trick I’ve learned is not to clean my valve parts too often. I try to go 3–4 weeks between cleanings. This may make the valve a little leaky over time, but there is a payoff. When I do clean, I don’t use any alcohol before scraping off all the build-up first. That built up residue is a potent, hashy concentrate, and if you’ve been using a variety of different strains, it’s an intriguing mixture of everything you’ve vaped since your last cleaning. I can always collect a big gob of the stuff from the metal cylinder and cone parts of the solid valve, and that stuff will fill bag after bag after bag with heavy-duty medication, with best results somewhere above 7 on the dial. |

Rep Power: 88 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread there is no need to crank up the knob on your volcano, thc is dispersed at 180°C (356°F) which is a touch over 5 in a half. anything over that is releasing a minimal amount of tars which defeats the purpose of a vape...if you don't set it over 6 you'll be fine and get the full beneifts of this fine device. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread Just got my Volcano in the mail a little while ago and tried it out today. With all the great tips on settings and preparation from this forum, I had no trouble figuring it out. I used a 5.5 setting on the classic volcano with easy valve. Vaporizing is such a different experience than using a pipe --- it worked great though, me and my lungs are thankful. Thanks everyone for sharing such helpful info on this forum. Rep Power: 2688 | Re: Volcano - Official Settings Thread I guess I'm still too much of a n00b here because I can't open your attachment :( Anyway, without the temp translation, I'd say I vape about .25 - .50 gm at a time at a temp of between 6.5 and 7.0, a little closer to the 7.0. This will consistently get me two bags completely opaque, then I stir it up & get a 3rd bag almost of the same level of opacity. The fourth is about half the density of the third, and sometimes I can squeeze out a fifth but usually won't; I'll just save it and once I have a bunch accumulated make butter or something with it. I don't often change the temperature at all, really; I leave it set where it is for the whole session. Last edited by BackdoorJesus; 06-30-2009 at 02:06 PM.. |
