Rep Power: 419 | Alright PCers, which one floats your boat and/or which one are you forced to use? My friend is running 64 bit Vista & can't use much of his hardware due to lack of drivers... I just did a requisite yearly fresh install of XP Professional & its running beautifully. |

Rep Power: 450994 | Re: XP vs Vista XP for sure. My son got his new computer with Vista on it and has nothing but problems with that operating system. Three of my friends that have computer tech. knowledge, also advised against Vista. When I just recently had to get a new computer, I had to special order it from Dell so I could get Windows XP installed on it. None of the other brand of computers would put XP on it for me. So that is my answer. XP all the way. . |

Rep Power: 20570 | Re: XP vs Vista I am currently running Vista Ultimate..... I was a beta tester for Vista, so I have a couple years with Vista now... Honestly, I have had zero problems. It is stable with the computer I use, and I have had no problems with drivers for camera, scanner, printer, monitor etc. etc.... I have run both the 64 bit and the 32 bit (which is what I am using now), with the 64bit I was able to use more of my RAM, and I had good drivers for all my hardware, but I switched back to the 32 bit just for simplicity in other beta software I am working with....(some Adobe stuff).... With all that said, if Windows XP is doing everything you need done, I would NOT upgrade.... There simply are not enough "improvements" in Vista to justify the extra money for a new OS.... I think the Vista stability issues are pretty much a thing of the past, drivers are available for all but the oldest hardware, and new computers designed to operate under Vista are at least as reliable as any XP based computer ever was.... Where problems arise is upgrading older hardware.... Vista is more demanding of the hardware than XP was/is, particularly the video display cards... Older hardware simply does not have the horsepower to take advantage of the eye-candy built into Vista.... But, again, the bottom line as far as I am concerned is if XP is doing the job for you DO NOT CHANGE.... |

Rep Power: 23707 | Re: XP vs Vista I have an Intel MacBook Pro, and I installed Vista (via Parallels) on it two nights ago as a kick. I figured it would be handy for games. After trying (and failing) to install Battlefield 2 under Vista, I removed the virtual machine and did a fresh install with XP Pro- it's the only way to go. If I couldn't have XP, give me 98. I do like the new flashy stuff in Vista though. Just looking for more stability and standardization. - early mornin' stoned pimp ![]() |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: XP vs Vista I've got XP Pro. Luv Vista. Once you learn how to navigate the Vista interface, it is pretty and easy and easier on the eyes than the earlier Windows versions. Macs are okay. Linux is fun. But, the most diverse software for sure is XP Pro. It runs nearly everything I've ever thrown at it. I can leave the computer on forever. But, next holiday season, you can bet there will be more Vista software compatibility and then the new Vista hardware and software won't run the old software and hardware and we'll have a whole new generation of software and hardware. intel cpu's, for sure. and, you gotta have a lot of computer power to run Vista smoothly, a lot! At least 2 gigs of ram on the mo-board and at least a gig on the video card and a knarley sound card that has its own resources, and etc. I've got xp pro humming on resources that would not run Vista, no way! Huge difference between xp pro and vista. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: XP vs Vista Yeah, the xp mo-bo bioses and the xp pro hardware utilities are highly tweakable. There's easy over-clocking of the ram, cpu, and video card in the bios menu as well as within XP Pro. But, I just fiddled with over-clocking and wasn't impressed by it. I got better performance from more ram. I run in normal mode with all of the resources maxed out and this hardware has worked error free for years. xp multi-tasks extremely well too. just seamless computing. But, with the right software hardware, Vista is the way to go. |

Rep Power: 3681 | Re: XP vs Vista If you're not running ancient peripherials or software you're not likely to have driver issues. This computer is Vista Ultimate 64bit and I love it. I haven't had any driver issues, ever. Still, my favorite OS to work with is Solaris. Linux blows, it's like having training wheels. |
