Rep Power: 36928 | A motorbike that runs on air Now I'm wondering where else this idea could be applied... http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/play...26714&src=news |

Rep Power: 3681 | Re: A motorbike that runs on air I saw a car that was based on the same principal about a year ago, can't find a link though. It's a good and bad idea. Good - no tailpipe emissions Bad - compressed air has to come from somewhere, namely electricity to run a compressor. Where does that electricity come from? In India, China and the US that means coal. Multiple transformations of energy, coal -> electricity -> compressed air -> forward movement is very inefficient. This is the same problem with plug-in cars, it's actually WORSE for the environment UNLESS the power is generated from clean sources (wind, water, solar, SUSTAINABLE biofeul, or nuclear at least it's not putting out greenhouse gasses). Very low power output means it won't meet current US NTSB saftey standards. Very limited range also is an impedement. Not trying to shit on the idea totally, we just need to focus on clean power generation far more than the application of that power in plug-in/hydrogen fuel cell/compressed air/whatever alternative propulsion method. If someone packaged that bike with a solar powered air compressor and tank (which exist) then it's a great idea! |
