Rep Power: 54998 | Anybody else have this problem? When I go to a thread where almost every post has a youtube embed, my computer practically crashes. I don't even have to click on a single clip. It's like every clip tries to run at once. If the thread only has one or two embeds, there's no problem. I'm running the wonderful Windows Vista with only 1 gig of RAM, which I suspect is the problem.... |

Maybe there is some setting in your Options selections that says something like, automatically play an embedded file, and if you turn that option off, the problem will go away? I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 on Windows Vista on a Dell with 2 GB RAM, and do not see that problem, but your 1 GB RAM sounds like plenty to me for a browser to run OK. |

in all seriousness it is the combination of the embedded videos and the ads loading when you go to the page. pm on the way.

Rep Power: 54998 | Re: Anybody else have this problem? Thanks guys. I'm a Firefox user from way back when. I'll check their internet options & see if there's a setting I can change. Fo Sho, Spacey, one gig ain't enough for Vista. I was warned not to buy a vista machine, but I needed a new laptop right away & that's all they had. That was in Oct 07 & I don't think the HW manufacturers had caught on to the need for more RAM by then. Every laptop I see for sale now has at least 3 gigs. |

of course there's always the defrag route too... if you haven't defragged your HD in a long time you may need to do so. really not too up on Vista (got rid of it straight away) but a good defrag also does wonders - assuming it will under Vista as well. never thought i'd see the day when i loved XP.... so i heard there's a public Beta of Windows 7 gonna be available for download on Friday.... MicroShaft says it is gonna be way less demanding than Vista.

Who sold you a Vista system with 1 gig of RAM, they need to have their heads examined seriously. You need 2 gigs alone to run Vista itself. Then you have the other apps it has to run. I am surprised you boot up into Vista with 1 gig. You need 4 gigs. If you are running in pairs like most do, make sure that 1 gig you have now, is matched to the other 1 gig you need for it. I don't know how many ram slots you have, so I can't advise you on how to configure the RAM... or without knowing what type of RAM you are using makes that impossible. Get's some more ram like TUS said and you will be fine zb1

you can get RAM way cheaper than that... but like zb1 said you usually have to pair it. my guess is that you are going to have to lose the gig you already have - it is probably 2 512k chips. unless you got lucky and it is hardwired to the board... then your slots will be empty. where do ya live... maybe i can do it for ya. for freaking free. (you have to buy the memory tho) go to this link and you can find out how much ram will cost. i have gotten ram from them and it has always been excellent. use the memory adviser tool. http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx?gc...20090108203120 Last edited by The Urban Spaceman; 01-08-2009 at 12:33 PM..

Rep Power: 54998 | Re: Anybody else have this problem? Ya, I could prolly get it cheaper, but I got the 3 yr extended warranty with the "drop kick" feature in case I drop kick this bitch off a cliff. They said I can bring in the pieces & get a new machine. I'm not quite that brazen, but it does have coverage for "accidental" damage due to dropping etc. So I have to go to my retailer to get work done so the warranty will stay in effect. |
