Rep Power: 233 | At 300 miles per gallon, I'd buy it in a heartbeat ... what do you think? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540...37331#24951985 ![]() ![]() Gotta love Californians huh? Paint that puppy with lots of little green leaves all over it, lol I think this would be a major fun thing to have providing of course you can afford one that is. |

Rep Power: 1003 | Re: 300mpg and it looks cool, would you buy it? My dad has one reserved, or so he says, he tends to BS frequently so I'll believe it when I see it. The name of the car is Aptera, but there are two models in design. Currently it will only be offered in California. I think the design is slick, and with so many cool features for a reasonable price, it's a deal! If my credit wasn't shot to hell I'd already have a Typ-1e reserved. The Aptera Typ-1e, (27,000), is due for release early next year. This model is fully electric and plugs into any standard electrical outlet for charging. A single charge takes about 2-4 hours, and will move you about 120 miles before needing a re-charge. The Aptera Typ-1h, (30,000), is a hybrid model, this is the one that gets the media attention simply because it can get up to 300mpg. However, it is essentially the same as the electric model, but it has a 5 gallon take that can be used when you run out of electricity, (increasing it's driving range). If you charge it up before using the reserve gas tank you'll never have to refill it up, cool huh? :) This version won't be ready until early 2010. Visit their website for more information and more pictures: www.aptera.com A few interesting tidbits:
Check it out in action! (The production model will be quieter, but, personally, I would rather have a loud Jetson-like sound Popular Mechanics Test Drive: An Aptera guided tour: Introduction ABC News Report: |

Rep Power: 80723 | Re: 300mpg and it looks cool, would you buy it? Yup, I would buy it. But I drive so seldom these days I won't be buying it, at least not for now. It'll be really interesting to see all the electric and hybrid vehicles coming out in the next few years. Great to see companies like Aptera, and Tesla, bring out exciting designs and driving enjoyment in this area. I do feel like I am on my last solely internal combustion engine driven vehicle. Rep Power: 24604 | Re: 300mpg and it looks cool, would you buy it? I'll get one when they make them fast, and handle well. When it will run the quarter mile in under 12 seconds, and at over 120 mph, stop on a dime and handle properly (THis means 4 wheels, not 3). Till then it's 5.4 liter supercharged ford motored vehicles for me.... 11 mpg.........if I drive easy....LOL...... |

This thing also will not carry anything (guitars, ice chests, more than 2 people comfortably), and so is not more practical than a motorcycle (which it is, BTW), except for the getting wet part..... I STILL say it has one too many wheels-two wheels rule, cages drool.....:slaugh: Motorcycles are still WAY more fun..... sv

Rep Power: 11455 | Re: 300mpg and it looks cool, would you buy it? Oh, yeah. It has one other drawback, as far as I can tell: IT DOESN'T FLY!!! Where the hell are the FLYING CARS we were promised back in the 70s? I have been waiting patiently, and even though this thing LOOKS like it would fly, it won't. I am so bummed. I was really expecting a flying car...... sv |

I'm much more interested in the Millenium sport motorcycle. It has the engine from a helicopter (gas turbine-in other words, A JET). Jay Leno has one. No one knows how fast it will go, since the faster you go, the faster it goes. Estimates are in the 350mph range. It also will melt the bumper right off your car if you get too close. Now that's PERFORMANCE. I understand that a lot of folks aren't into performance, but some of us are.... sv Last edited by stealthviper; 10-14-2008 at 01:14 PM.. Reason: spelling

Even though the forum is not run by the owners, they do appear to frequent the boards quite often answering many simplistic questions from interested people. If I had the money, I'd buy one, but I'm broke hehe
