Rep Power: 11455 | Are you STILL up out there.....? This is very cool that WT did this. Just another example of better living through WeedTracker....:slaugh: OK, Vampyres, speak up! Just exactly how long have you gone without sleeping. What put you out, and for how long? How has insomnia affected your life, other than your friends and family thinking you are wierd and antisocial, because you sleep during the day? Have you tried conventional meds? What did they do, and has MMJ worked better (I almost shouldn't ask that one-everybody here probably feels it does) I have had radical insomnia for thirty years, mostly from years of touring as a musician and having basically no regular sleep schedule-catch it when you can. I can do the bit of sleeping almost anywhere for an hour or so, but regular quality sleep evades me on a regular basis. I have lost jobs, girlfriends and been estranged from my family back east because of it. Cannabis allows me to sleep 4-5 hours a night without being groggy in the morning. Ambien made me very groggy the next day, and caused me to call in sick at least once-I was scared to drive... Even though I am still a Vampyre (usuall up til 4 or 5 am), I am a Vampyre with a coffin to sleep in, thanks to MMJ. Next? sv |

Rep Power: 57 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I'm in the same boat with you and Kev. I wish I could sleep more than I do. Sometimes, randomly, my body and brain allow themselves to shut down and sleep more than my normal 4-5ish hours. I've been medicating with a lot of concentrates at night, sandwiched between the bud. Working very well for me so far. Worth a try. Even with the concentrates, it still takes me at least an hour or so after medicating before I feel tired enough to sleep. It's very odd. If I consume indicas or concentrates during the day, I get tired easily, but not so much at night. I think my record for going without sleep was like 3 days and a few hours. Think I slept about 7 hours that night. Freakin sucked! I was still tired but unable to sleep. I hate taking pills and what not for sleep aid and do everything I can not to take them. Sometimes you just can't win though |

Rep Power: 20363 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? Insomniac since I was about 10 years old! I've been smoking since 12:30 this afternoon as well! It helps me sleep eventually. Mostly it keeps me asleep when I do fall asleep. Once I wake up though, I'm up! It's affected me badly in the past. When I worked on film sets, I definitely didn't get enough sleep in the small time they alloted us! Plus, and this is the super biggie, no matter how involved I am with a woman, I find it extremely difficult to sleep in the same bed with another person. Luckily, I've taught myself to be active on small amounts of sleep. So, all night I'm a holding, snuggling machine while my lady sleeps in my arms!! I get some thinking done... I don't like pills. I don't do pills. The only other meds I take besides herb is my stomach pill. Which I have to take because pills screwed up my stomach! It was a horrible cycle! |

Rep Power: 57 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I have the same problems, with sleep and sleeping with someone. MJ helps me sleep through the night, as short as that may be for me. I used to think I could sleep in bed with a girl and actually sleep, but I often find myself awake until 5 or 6 and eventually my body gives in and sleeps for a couple hours. I always feel I could have used more though. A good friend of mine who is studying to be a neurologist told me that people who sleep less and more prone to being of higher intellegence levels than those that sleep more and often "geniuses" sleep very few hours per day, typically around 4-6 max! I was a little shocked to hear this, since I consider myself far from being a genius. I always knew that less than 30 minutes or more than 4 hours was the key to waking up well rested (REM typically stops/settles after 4 hours of sleeping), but the genius thing, news to me. Food for thought |

I have seen studies that indicate that insomnia is the single largest health complaint among people in their twenties on up. That you have been afflicted since age ten is not that uncommon. One only need to notice the proliferation of tv ads for sleep aids (the one with Abe Lincoln and the Groundhog is a riot) to figure out that something is going on. We as a nation cannot sleep, and we can't get it up, either (viagra). sv

Rep Power: 176 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I started suffering from insomnia at 14 and was prescribed to a myriad of pharmaceuticals that did not agree with my system once I started using good indicas like Bubba Kush I was able to get to sleep a full night without horrible side effects lately I have had insomnia a bit since the accident tonight my mind is just racing a lot because I have to go in for an xray tomorrow I think a powerful indica or indica based concentrate is the best thing for my insomnia Peace |

Rep Power: 20570 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I grew up in a household with a shift-worker father, so we adapted our schedules to his when we could. Even as a pre-teen, I was a night owl... would be up till dawn if left to my own devices... Conforming with the normal world's clock was always a challenge. My heart doesnt even beat till around 3 in the afternoon.... Now that I am no longer required to deal with the real world all that much, I usually dont even try to close my eyes till the sun is up.. Tonite may, however, be an exception.... I was at the VA from 9am till almost 3:30 this afternoon.. (urologist, oncologist, cardiologist, EKG, ultrasound exam...) Since the VA is federal property, I wont risk taking meds with me, so I had to go much longer without today... resorted to more morphine, and as a result, I am kinda ragged out... You ask what "knocks me out". Not much. Pharmaceuticals such as sleeping pills (Ambien, restoril) sometimes will make me sleepy enough to fall asleep, but only for an hour or so... Trazedone will also help me sleep, at the price of becoming a zombie. Opiates dont make me drowsy any longer unless I REALLY dose up, and that is just not a path that I want to go down. My tolerance for MMJ is pretty high. Only the very exceptional indica flowers make me drowsy... even strong indica based concentrates only have minimal effect on my sleep. (thank god they DO help with my pain, lessening the amount of morphine I need) Good quality (usually homemade with hash/hash oil) edibles work at least as well as pharmaceuticals for sleep, and I think even better. I am somewhat hesitant to regularly use them for sleep , for fear it will increase my tolerance... Since I dont have any particular daily commitments any longer, I just sleep when I can. Oh, and I would definitely put myself in the sub-genius class... :smile2: |

| Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? insomnia - my middle name. (GI is my first name... GIhappyinsomniajack nothing seems to take me all the way through the night without feeling hungover in the morning. so, i smoke a bit then usually sleep for 2-3 hours, wake, smoke a bit more (and sometimes type long, boring posts on wT about being awake), then sleep another 3-4. if i can get a total of more than 6 hours of sleep then i feel lucky. if i want my ass kicked hard, and have absolutely nothing to do the next day but |

Rep Power: 15 | one more insomniac here in quartz hill at least im not the only one? ive been an insomniac since i was in a car accident. it has a negative effect on my relationships as far as antisocial but mmj is starting to change all that. for the first time in 4 years i have found a glimmer of hope in mmj. most sleeping pills either dont work or make me to grogy, i hate that feeling. when i medicate my family says im more "myself". i feel much more social and my pain is lower. boogaloo |

Rep Power: 11455 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I'm with Stanley-no genius here. I forgot to say what works for me. I tend to roll joints, as I seem to cough less, but a nice bowl of, say, God's Gift or GDP topped with some kief or hash usually does the trich ( Diablo K was real potent, as was Purple K. I have yet to try either Ingrid or Black Domina, but I have heard good things. I think it's safe to say, if you are on this thread, you probably need pretty potent meds to get results. sv |

| Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? What is "sleep"? I'm just lucky to have a job that accommodates my "shift work sleep disorder". I recently tried a new sleeping pill that's not a "narcotic" called Rozerem that works by preventing your bodies own meletonin from being "recycled". This is the equivalent of taking 200 standard Meletonin tablets in one dose.... It's non addicting and allows for normal dreaming and has been shown to reverse work shift sleep disorders... It puts me out BUT I don't wake up fully for 24 hours after, so I stopped taking it. I'd rater be a night owl than roadkill from the hangover! It only comes in one strength.. TOO MUCH. If they ever come out with a smaller dose, I may try it again and try to be a "norml" 9 to 5 guy. |

Rep Power: 57 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I don't blame you. It's like some med my dr wanted to give me that would let me sleep for 24hrs straight. That's too close to an induced coma for me. So far I'm liking this whole living thing . . . and even with all the negative aspects, the positives still outweigh. I'm not sure I could bring myself to take anything that is going to make me sleep that long. Aside from all the complications I'm sure it can cause your body, I don't think sleeping for 24hrs is healthy in any way and probably does more harm than good. Bummer about the pill though, that it can't be split in half. Made that mistake with time release morphine when it was first prescribed. Split it in half, 10 minutes later doped out of mind. It all hit me at once instead of gradually coming on. Not a happy time for hands |

I'll stick with Indicas+Concentrate. I prefer five hours of sleep a day and being alert to nine hours and being a Zombie.

Rep Power: 11455 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I tried Ambien, but it only put me out about 60% of the time. The rest of the time reminded me of the one and only time in my life I ingested Phenobarbitol as a recreational experiment (long, long ago). It felt like I was walking on a boat in heavy seas, and I kept glancing off the walls and the furniture. No thank you very much, please. That's actually what got me to go to the doc and get my rec. I had been self-medicating for years (here I thought I just had a very high tolerance for cannabis), but once I realized that all the HMO doc was going to do was hand me poison, I was in getting my rec the next day. Literally. I'm still up late, still sleep late-hey I'm a pro musician, alright? I work night shift, and have most of my life. That's one of the big reasons I have sleep problems-my body just wants to sleep all day and stay up all night, and convincing it otherwise requires strong Indicas and concentrates right before bed. Beats the HELL out of Ambien, however. Oh yeah, sometimes I would wake up groggy-then I hear about people driving their car in their sleep, while taking Ambien. Holy s*#t! These bastards think I am Kenny from South Park, and are trying to KILL me!:slaugh: Peace and zzzz's, sv |

Rep Power: 57 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? After my crap-tacular day I'll be up for a while. But Stealthy, you already knew about that. Next time (hoping there won't be a next time) you're getting the first call. Mental note made! Thanks for the calming convo brotha! No back to the tpoic at hand! I'm going to start on some '96 Tahoe OG right now, followed by a semi-stable ear wax sandwich . . . hopefully that will help do the trick tonight |

Rep Power: 498300 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? Well, well, well... a lot more nite owls then I suspected. Like some, I have been this way off and on, for too many years. I take trazadone to help get me to LaLa Land, but, it isn't always effective. 1 to 2 tabs but, 1 isn't enough to keep me asleep more then 2 hrs and 2 only gives me 4, sometimes. Thank the Heavens for my mmj, or I would never get to sleep some nites, no I mean very early mornings!!! This behavior leads to a nap during the day, and thats when I feel I sleep the best, soooo, who knows, thats the way it is for me. Peace to all the nite people and the morning people, who help us thru the day. |

Rep Power: 11 | Re: Are you STILL up out there.....? I don't think I fit the classic insomnia stereotype. I can sleep when I lay down once my body is tired...duh, right? What happes to me though is htat my mind races all the time and I can't hardly make myself settle in for a nap or sleep. I get that buzzy feeling and my limbs get "light". You probably know what I mean. Then I get mushy headed and start slurring my words. In myhead I am making perfect sense, but its like my body is moving slower and slower , out of sync with my mind. I sound like a pink floyd song I have to medicate every 4-6 for my hands or I canit type or use my mouse fro drafting. I'm begining to wonder if the smoke is having that racing effect on me. Anyone else like that. by the way...my whole unit was up for nearly 4 days in Punsan, South Korea during an invasion scare in 91. A hole opened up just outside our post. It turned out to be a tunnel from under the DMZ. Scared us to hell and back. Here we were a bunch of jet mechanics and we thought we were going to be the first contact point in a NKA invasion. When it was all over, i remember being so tired i couldnt even eat or drink. weidr feeling |
