| The Joys of insomnia As I sit here typing at 1:12 AM, thinking of skipping my sleeping pill, I'm wondering if perhaps some of us are really just night owls. I mean to say, that some of us have a biological inclination to stay up all night long - worrying or not. Perhaps I have just been chain-smoking cigarettes, but I've noticed that whenever I don't have to work the next day, I stay up to at least 1 AM. It seems like my clock just goes right back to this 1AM (or more) point every time I get to sleep in. Like tomorrow. I am not talking about hard-core insomnia to the point of collapse. That's hell. Maybe I should just work the nightshift somewhere (I start work at 7:30am most days)? Sometimes I actually ENJOY staying up late. It's sick, I know, and I apologize to those of you who are up suffering (been there) but I do sometimes enjoy staying up late. I'm not so hot on sleeping in late, though. Well, what I'm saying is, I think it's my nature to stay up late at night. It feels right, sometimes. Know what I mean? Well, off to bed. Got a ceiling to stare at. |

Rep Power: 498300 | Re: The Joys of insomnia Hi Nite-Owls! I have to agree with the notion that some of us just don't have the same internal clock as others. I have always prefered the quiet of the night to the hustle of the day. It goes back to when I was a child & my parents tried to enforce regular sleep hours. I would do everything I could think of to try to make myself sleep- count sheep, try not to think, later try to read myself to sleep(under the covers with a pen light,so my parents would'nt catch me!) This problem continued as I grew older but, as a young adult, it wasn't a problem. At that age, everyone stayed up late! Parties kept me looking normal when I was wide awake in the wee hours. Then the babies came & we all know, noone can sleep when they are up! Now, as I admit to being middle aged, I still can't sleep during the hours "regular" people do. Lucky that I have always LOVED NAPS, so, I really do get my sleep quota, just in different increments! I hear the older we get , that our bodies need less sleep- hope that won't mean that I'll be up ALL night! To All my Fellow Nite Owls- Don't Worry, We are normal in our own way! Happy ZZZZZZZs!!! |

Rep Power: 720 | Re: The Joys of insomnia Not sure whats happening but haven't been able to get a full nights sleep in 4 days. Tonight I took a sleeping pill, medicated twice and had 3 drinks, and I'll be damned if I didn't wake up at 2 AM. All my life I was an early morning person and rarely stay up past 10:00 PM. And whats even worst is that if I do sleep, I don't wake up feeling refreshed. I know that a lot of this is due to my medical condition and the sleepless night are becoming more regular. This is insane and it sucks. |

Rep Power: 732 | i can relate. i used to stay up all night and go to sleep right when the sun is coming out. then i would wake up right as the sun is going down. i would drink cola and sit at the computer. sometimes i would go out and have a smoke. since then i'm on some new meds and my sleep patterns are normal. but DAMN that was a F#$^&n ride i wont forget. Also i would hear kids playing and knocking next to my window. it was between 2and 6 in the morning theres not going to be any kids awake when the sun hasnt come out yet. |

Rep Power: 27688 | That period between 4 and 6am after early waking is a marvelous quiet time, clear-minded, energetic. It is my favorite time for writing and planning.:sbounce: And the rest of the day goes straight to hell. I'm surprised nothing is said of the hellish debility of insomnia. Everything is horrible, and "nothing is going to get any better until you get some sleep." -unknown. If you can't sleep and it doesn't cause you any problem, you are fortunate indeed IMHO. You just get extra up-time each day, I would think. - Are you for real??!! Is there anyone else who suffers debilitating confusion, exhaustion, clumsiness, poor judgment, pain enhancement, emotional volatility - irritability, forgetfulness? (Before I was diagnosed there was a lot of despair too. PM me about it. I want to help.) BTW, those of you with unexplained and debilitating insomnia, please consider my tale. You might want to seek an EEG. I went through over a decade of insomniac hell - my career and life came apart - before I was diagnosed by EEG in 2006 with a hidden kind of epilepsy called "temporal lobe epilepsy" AKA "complex partial seizures". Said seizures had apparently been waking me up and keeping me from sleeping - on a daily basis. Childhood head trauma or a host of other things can cause it, and no symptoms show but apparent daydreaming and periodically erratic behavior - and insomnia. I sleep much better since I got a horde of anti-seizure meds and more MMJ than I can afford and I keep MMJ brownies (indica) on hand for emergencies. ("Much better" doesn't get me to normal or healthy or international-business executive loved by the world's kindest woman again, but I'm much happier even so.) So, my point: people here seem pretty content with insomnia. Is that for real or are you just painting a pretty face on demon insomnia? |

Rep Power: 7447 | Re: The Joys of insomnia I can say I have been dealing with insomnia coupled with terrible IBS. So if I am up, my stomach is hurting BAD! So in my case insomnia is the worst thing I could have ever obtained at this point. Today is actually day 3 of no sleep and constant pain(until I smoke of course) The less sleep, worse it gets . I am also kinda jealous that some people enjoy this. I wish I could! Its definitely is DEMON in my book. |

| Re: The Joys of insomnia A month and a half later, I'm still experiencing major insomnia - so I upped my Rx med for sleeping (Trazodone) and am smoking mainly heavy indicas (Bubba, Black Domina) so I'm sleeping fairly well. Real hard-core insomnia is the worst experience I've ever had. I once stayed up for 5 days straight without any sleep at all, and I wasn't on any sleep aid for months. I started hearing and seeing stuff that was not there, so I know about the real deal. Still, my bio clock wants me to stay up late (2am or so). I was either born to be a barfly, or work the night shift (though I work 7am-3:30pm most days, no breaks). Well, lay off the coffee after 3pm, folks. Get some sleep, and if you can't, smoke a nice fatty. Might as well enjoy your moments awake. |

Rep Power: 27688 | I just discovered that a couple tablespoons of straight MMJ baking oil straight down the old hatch before bedtime is surprisingly effective. I'd always thought it'd work the same as an MMJ baked good but it comes on much more quickly and intensely. I guess the MMJ gets to the small intestine and absorbed there very quickly as a bolus of straight fat - no carbs to and proteins holding things up whilst getting processed in the mouth (saliva - carbohydrates) and stomach (gastric acids - protein) - please correct me if I've got that mixed up. Maybe a lot gets absorbed by the mucous membranes of the mouth prior to swallowing even. Anyway, I've found MMJ baking oil very helpful for bedtime. And it tastes vile. No chance your gonna down your weeks worth of bedtime brownies in a single episode of the munchies. :slaugh: PS I repeat if you have unexplained chronic insomnia please ask your doctor about an EEG to check for temporal lobe epilepsy - it's a kind of epilepsy with no shakes that I'd never heard about until I found out I had it, got medicated for seizures, and finally got some sleep. Life is ever so much better. May it happen to you too. |
