Rep Power: 63 | Church/Temple? Just out of curiosity, who here is a person of religious faith? And if you are, how often do you go to you meet with your congregation? And please tell why you either go so much (like every day, or even once a week), every so often (like a few times a year, including holidays), once in a while (like a holiday type thing only), or never (why do you still claim your faith but never go to church). I'm interested to hear what people have to say... And if ya'll are wondering, I have many beliefs of many kinds... I don't practice any religious faith, nor believe in anykind. I do believe a lot in the bible, but do not believe it's the word of God... It's still great book though one that every body can read and learn from... So I guess, I'm more of an Atheist. I don't know what happens, and I don't care what happens. I guess, whatever happens, happens in life after death... So go ahead, feel free to talk about how you feel Peace |

Rep Power: 49433 | Think this a complicated issue and one that is as unique and complex as all the people that post here and come out for what they believe in. Brave, and seekers of truth. My hat is off, if I was wearing one to you all to stand up and be counted by persistance and unity. It did my heart good to see where the poll was going, poses an interesting food for stoners to think about - like where they stand on issue and how it affect their lives and families. Now, that I put my 2 cents in think I will medicate and ponder and fire up a few neurons or kill a few - whatever. It's tea time. Happy Weekend All. MAY YOU ALL ATTEND THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY WEED. AMEN. |

Rep Power: 2739 | Re: Church/Temple? After being forced to catholic school 12 years of my life and being forced to go to church (EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY) until about the time I was 18, I took a turn to think for myself when I decided in my second year of college to major in Philosophy. I received different points of views on religion and human nature. I have nothing but the utmost respect and appreciation for all beliefs. However, after my college education, I came to the conclusion that I am atheist. |

Rep Power: 272 | Re: Church/Temple? I was led blindly until I was about 12. Then I started thinking 'for myself' and had questions my parents and the pastors couldnt answer. So then, when I was 19, I was taking my g/f to dinner out of town. We walk in to the restaurant and who do we see? My pastor, the music dir, and a decon. ALL are married, however, they were strangely w/o their wifes? But who were these girls they were with? I knew the wifes, sons, daughters, and most of the relatives of these people. They were with none of them. So I all of a sudden came to the realization that they were 'on dates' with those girls. The best part about it? I go home and tell my parents that I dont want to go to a church where the leaders cant practice what they preach. To this day, my parents dont believe me, they still go to the same church! (its been 15yrs) So I live by the passage: Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there shall I be also." Thats good enough for me..... Get too many people gathered in Gods name....... soon enough you have a war.... GM |

I do however belive in Karma and try to do unto others as I would like to be treated. So I am tolerante of belivers until they try to ram there BS down my throut. Then watch out. |

I consider myself a Universalist and accept all religions that are based on "The Good" as being part of an iridescent jewel-like whole. And atheists and agnostics are merely the base of that gem. Go in Spirit, Go in Peace. Go in Love, Don. | |

Rep Power: 54998 | Re: Church/Temple? Nobody knows who or what god is, & that is what makes life interesting. If you know how a movie is going to end, you don't enjoy it as much. Scientists have theories & religious folks have faith in stories, myths & legends about where we came from, but who knows the truth? Zen is my favorite philosophy. It's not something you have faith in per se, but rather something you TRY to practice. The harder you try, the more you think & the more you think, the less successful you are. Very elusive and interesting....:slaugh: |

I share it with all of creation and do my best to make it better for all regardless of their beliefs, or lack there of... I don't force the word on folks, as I cannot know everything which would then make me "a false teacher"... Living in the moment with nature is about as close to perfection as I can find here and now... I can't be outside all day, but I spend as much time as possible daily in the presence, in the moment... Rep Power: 283 | Re: Church/Temple? I go to church twice a week and I help out with the high school youth group. It’s a lot of fun being able to help people, and really cool when you can help the kids of the people that helped you. I don’t believe in universalism, which I suppose makes me closed minded to some. That being said the person of Jesus is amazing to me. I really don’t get how hate, war mongering, judgment and social injustice, things that are antithetical to His teachings, are trademarks of the mainstream ‘church’. |

Rep Power: 5692 | Many people go to churches and temples who are not religious. It is a social thing for some. I have found that God is always with me no mater where I am. The lesson is to learn to love everyone and respect all of creation. I am more of a mystic Christian who needs, NO DEMANDS - direct contact with God. I am always plugged in. God speaks to all equally, if you bother to listen. I usually do not attend church services as I do not wish to scare the children, and I hate telling other "Christians" of my experience, as I do not wish to offend those who will not understand. I just live a life with no regrets and no secretes; that is my testimony. clinton ps edit: I worship God every morning as I await the sun rise. I find that worship is REAL connection to God. I sing and pray and bless God. I try to make God smile. Last edited by clinton; 10-12-2008 at 03:31 PM.. |

Rep Power: 310637 | Re: Church/Temple? I am a heathen/asatru/unitarian universalist. I go to the UU church a couple times a month for community with the like minded and information regarding the ins and outs of other religions. I'm way more concerned about whats going on in THIS life than I'm worried about what happens after I die....I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. If I try to make this world a better place for EVERYONE then I am doing good in the world. If the gods/creation/the universe get pissed because I don't postrate myself and do everything in its name...tough shit. I try to live by the nine noble virtues of my faith and the seven principles of UU. I don't always do it...no one does....we are human....except spacey and those damn commie vampires! |

Rep Power: 310637 | Re: Church/Temple? On a side note...I read an article about how the Christian Church focused on the Garden of Eden and paradise on Earth until 1000 A.D.when, for some reason, it started focusing on the sacraficial death of Jesus and pushed paradise into the next life. (The article used church artwork as examples) I think that somehow the church figured out that it's WAY easier to control people with fear and guilt than to give them hope and a reason to act.... This seams strangely familiar to me...We had to go to war because Iraq was doing scary things. We had to pass the Patriot Act because of scary 9-11. We had to bail out banks and insurance companies (both domestic AND foreign) because of the scary things happening to the economy. Be afraid of Obama because change is scary. McLame is the same...so its not such a scary move....please Guess what....Scary things happen all the time Don't let fear of the unknown control your life. |
