Rep Power: 1003 | Any Wiccans around? Just curious if there are any out there. I'm not one, I have agnostic views and don't believe in anything supernatural, including the existence of God(s). But the reason I ask is because I bought a book on the Wiccan calender, primarily because I was interested in the stuff it had on astrology, but it had a lot of other interesting things as well. My sister is Wiccan, but we don't talk about it very much, however we do both laugh when our ultra religious family members get unnerved when they see her pentagrams ;) Just wondering if there are any here on WT |

It is an interesting religion and once you start studying it you realize that it is not the demon infested religion that a lot of your mainstream religions would like to make it out to be. |

Rep Power: 21295 | Re: Any Wiccans around? I've considered myself a solitary wiccan for well over a decade. Scott Cunningham's little book "The truth about Witchcraft" today is a great quick read for anyone curious about what Wicca is really about. You can pick up a used copy on Amazon for about $.01 + shipping if you're interested. I also have a website with some basic information if anyone's curious. I haven't updated the site in many moons, but I keep it up because it still get's hits and from the comments in the guestbook I guess people still like it. PM me if you'd like the website addy. Blessed be, Kitiara Silvermoon )0( |

The Wiccan Rede states "Harm none and do as ye will" as well as the three fold law of anything you do comes back on you three fold. Here is a little excerpt that sums it up. most believers share a general set of beliefs and practices. They believe in the Goddess, respect nature, and hold both polytheistic and pantheistic views. Most Wiccans accept the so-called Wiccan Rede, an ethical code that states “If it harm none, do what you will.” Wiccans believe in meditation and participate in rituals throughout the year, celebrating the new and full moons

here's a post I found on a local BBS a LONG time ago (author unknown) but all the ideals still hold true Pledge to Pagan Spirituality (I found this one on a local BBS, yeah, back in the dark ages) I am a Pagan, and I dedicate Myself to channeling the Spiritual Energy of my Inner self to help and to heal myself and others.
So mote it be! | |

For one, it is the oldest (verifiable) religious symbol known to human. It dates earlier than 3000 bc, back to ancient mesopotamia, and has been found in various writings around the world since. All of the sides of the pentagram follow the "golden ratio" also known as divine proportion and has been utilized by artists and mathematicians for centuries. Quote:

There's quite a bit more to it than that. I personally believe in Gods AND Goddesses. More so than that.. I believe in balance. I had a very hard time believing in religions based on just a male heirarchy. Life is all about balance. Last edited by Nepeta; 09-05-2008 at 08:39 AM.. Reason: I hate typos

Rep Power: 355 | Re: Any Wiccans around? i'm neither wiccan nor pagan, but they were definitely my favorite religions to study when i was studying religious anthropology. i have my own personal views on religion as well as what i personally believe, and the only judgement i have against some religions comes when some try to force their views on others (i've had many, many, many, uhm, "discussions" with people trying to shove things down my throat...). i must say, however, that when i was doing research on wicca for some of my classes, the people i talked to were amazingly interesting and i have even adopted some aspects of pagan and wiccan beliefs into my own. the old pagan religions were incredibly fascinating, and i love talking with people who practice these religions because i love hearing their point of view (not just about religion, but about society as a whole...) |

It's pretty sad that a religion responsible for the destruction of most ancient religions demonizes them as evil, all while claiming to be a religion of peace and love. Too many people take their religion far too seriously.

Rep Power: 62781 | Re: Any Wiccans around? Has anyone ever heard of Starhawk? She is one of my heros. She is the founder of the Reclaimation movement of ancient and goddess traditions. She is a neo pagan, feminists, activist, and wonderfull writer of The Spiral Dance, Dreaming the Dark, and The Earth Path. I don't claim any one religion as I am not willing to discount the words or messages of all the others. I think I'm an atheist. I don't know for sure. I wouldn't call Crowley wiccan at all, but if we're lumping all pagan theologies into one group, as so oftentimes happens, it would.

Rep Power: 8309 | Re: Any Wiccans around? actually, its widely believed he was part of a witch's coven early in his occult career. i believe the witch's axiom "do what ye will" was the early inspiration for thelemas "do what thou wilt, shall be the whole of the law". though the difference between the two is huge. |

Rep Power: 8309 | Re: Any Wiccans around? well, it was an intelligence speaking through him. aiwass (value=93) was what it said it was called. reading through "the book of the law" you find its a conversation of three individuals. nuit, hadit, and crowley himself referred to as the "prophet". so its likely to assume there's a lot of his personality and influence in there. |

Crowley was into some hard drugs too, like laudanum, opium, cocaine, hashish, alcohol, ether, mescaline and heroin, and who knows what else...could explain his conversations with God/demons
