Rep Power: 127208 | Re: 10 questions that every intelligent Religion must answer It's about respect. I would never say something to a stranger about their religion, like you folks do. Not only are you NOT going to change them, you will offend many people by trying to influence them about very personel matters. Just as I abhor religions that claim to be the "only" one, and that all others will fry, I abhor folks who crusade and preach against all religions. IMHO it makes you no better than the extremists. Tolerance for beliefs is what I believe in. |

He is an Oxford professor that has written extensively on atheism. Thor's Mjolnir, very nice, one of my favorite gods! Quote:

We just have a different approach and obviously we have some very different opinions about many issues. But, my approach has won over many, many people. I've turned on a lot of lights. So, you are incorrect about my approach. And, I've won over some tough cases too. The only people I never seem to win over are the ones who have a hard time letting go of their antiquated and incorrect beliefs based on substantial misinformation and usually, they just don't want to know the ugly truth, here again, an old saying..."ignorance is bliss..." Some people just DO NOT want to know. You can spot them right off. THEY WON'T LISTEN TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY, THEY JUST GO OFF ON TIRADES -- and they don't give up. God bless their souls! Dude, you showed me and my beliefs no tolerance whatsoever. This reminds me of a lecture a college music teacher devoted to the philosophical notion that we have to show "tolerance to intolerance". It obviously was important to him because he didn't lecture us about music theory that day...and he took a real strong stance on the issue right off..."..."what the fuck is up with that? That's...INSANE...UGGGgggggh..." It was something he read in the news. True tolerance is tolerance of my ideas and approach too. Happy New Year brotha, lighten up!!! We're just sharing ideas here. There is no need to start nipping at my hard earned rep points because you are flustrated. Anything I can do to help??? I know of some ear wax that'll knock the life out the ugly mood you are in.

Ah geez.... I never called you rude, I said in my opinion it is disrespectful to put down all religions. Quite a difference there. But now that I have read this post and your condenscending attitude, I am being swayed. You GLADLY quoted me earlier and mocked my opinion with your "brainwashing" line. That is fine, and I respect your opinion, but now you say I AM INTOLERANT??? THIS IS AN MMJ WEBSITE. Off topic threads are OK, but I am getting a little tired of the OP's tirade against all religions. It is quite disrespectful to many. Obviously you have a large opinion of yourself since you brag about changing peoples views about religion. Nobody will change my convictions. I am 48yo and I read alot. In fact I slam the door on solicitors. Religion is a PERSONEL matter, and out of respect to others I always refrain from injecting my opinion onto others. I do not think so highly of myself that I would dare to tell others how to live or believe. Sometimes people find religion and it helps them. Sometimes people leave religions, and it helps them. It is PERSONEL. Posting videos against religion is inviting others to post videos promoting religion. Soon our MMJ theme will become lost. And I DID NOT NEGATIVE REP YOU!!! I did choose to NOT give you points, but did not take any away. I am perfectly happy other that a little end of year financial stress, so no, I do not need any help. But I do ask that you read my posts a little more carefully before you accuse ME of being intolerant. And please do not put words in my mouth, I do a good enough job myself.

But, I see it's the financial stress that's got you down...no wonder we're clashing. I'm doing good in that department. I got no stress. You inferred that we were being rude. You wrote: "you will offend many people by trying to influence them about very personel matters." The inference is specific and distinct and indisputable. ...you must be really, REALLY stressed. That's the second tirade. Ear Wax Alert!!!

I only play poker with women and when clothing removal is involved. Sorry. And yes, somehow it is funny how yours is griping and yapping and mine are somehow okay. I'm still laughing. It's not my fault. It is in the cards! Yah know what my favorite weed to smoke is when I am in one of those moods??? Trainwreck. Dude, after my last post, I titrated some Trianwreck and just had the most luxurious nap of my life. I woke up with a big...s...mile. I'm ready to roll! And yes, it is ironic. I believe in doing good and that there is something more to life than what we are seeing and being taught and told. Yet I also believe that ALL organized religion as we know it today is evil. Regardless, I still keep doing good and looking for that something more to enjoy! Every time somebody says "ironic"...I get Alanis's song in my head and it won't go away... "IT'S LIKE RAE-E-AINE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY, THE FREE RIDE YOU JUST COULDN'T TAKE" Damn you. Now I've got to listen to that song all night. Are you happy??? (double entendre alert). So then, let us agree to disagree. One day, we'll have a big poker game...clothing mandatory, anybody can play...joints are on me.

Rep Power: 25508 | Re: 10 questions that every intelligent Religion must answer 1. The tone of the first item Blames God. Shameful. It not gods fault. God does'nt make amputees. Our lives are about choice and free-will whatever occurs it this life is 100% OUR FAULT. "Being in the human experience, we have all had many painful, difficult experiences where it clearly looks like it is the other persons fault, or bad luck in life or whatever else we want to call it. So taking total responsibility for what appears to come to us is no easy task but it is well worth the effort because when we take responsibility for what happens to us, we can then learn and grow from our experiences and make new choices for ourselves. Changing our attitude from blame to responsibility will change what happens next in our world. Our destiny is of our own making and what goes on inside of us will be reflected outside of us all the time." Rebeca Eigen 2. Starvation is caused by humans not God. Shame on those who teach subservience to material things, as this is the cause of starvation. 3. These verses are from the OLD testament. This is not Christian Law its Old jewish law! The law of the time of Exodus from Egypt. I know that there are SOME christians that do believe verbatim the old testament. These are also probably the ones that handle serpents and drink strychnine. I find it amusing whenever a christian tries to interpret the old testament!? You never see Rabbi interpreting the New Testament do ya! 4. If you could prove religious faith it would cease being religious faith and become science/fact. Faith is a belief in something that cant be proven. Faith is a matter of the heart and therefore can not be distilled to its simplest form, reason. Although I can not prove that God exists, neither can you prove that God does not exist. Hence the 1st Amend to the US Constitution. 5. Slavery, again, a Human invention, and again references to the Old Testament=Old, old, old Jewish laws. 6. Why do bad things happen to good people. See #1. In short because of bad decision. I guess you expect God to save you from your own stupidity?! 7. Miracles=faith. See #4 8. Why doesnt Jesus appear? Well lets see now. The last time he was here, he taught Love,non-violence, peace, compassion, and love thy neighbor. He harmed no one, he healed the sick. And for his troubles, he was killed in a most agonizing way. And so, someone is surprised he ain't come back for some more, good old times?! 9. Eat the body and drink the blood of Christ. this is Symbolism. Its bread and wine. If you don't know what symbolism ishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolism 10. Divorce is a civil matter not a religious matter. You go to the court house not church to get a divorce. And the Christians dont seem to be threatened by civil divorce, if they were, they would have floated "Prop D" outlawing divorce! Christians want their cake and to eat it as well. Sounds strangely human. I think there may be more faith in some of you, than what you want to believe. Why else would you be posting in a Religion/Faith thread? Jesus taught that we all have faith. Some CHOOSE not to use it. If religion is truly meaningless, and without merit, and that is what you believe, why waste a single moment on it? |

Rep Power: 127208 | Re: 10 questions that every intelligent Religion must answer Thank you Dieselworks for the wise words. Faith is a personal matter, your choice. To try to influence others about Faith is stepping out of bounds. Let the folks decide for themselves, there is plenty of info out there. |
