Rep Power: 12 | Protest Burbank Airport Bust Feb 14 Attention LA ASA Activists, Long-time activist and patient Peter Keyes came from Northern California to help network with others at the January ASA Conference. On his way back home, he was stopped and cited at Burbank airport for legally possessing his medicine. These are the same cops and City Attorney that were just days away from sending WAMM founder Val Corral to jury trial for H&S Code 11357 (b) Possession of Less than an Ounce. His court date is next Wednesday, Feb. 14th, at 8:15am, at the Burbank Courthouse: 300 E. Olive Ave., Room #100. Peter has helped support patients and providers for years. He is now asking for your help and support when he has to appear in court. Wear a red t-shirt with your condition on it if you can. There are no signs allowed inside a court room. However, we will have 8.5x11 printouts you can sneak in and display to show support. Rep Power: 0 | Re: Protest Burbank Airport Bust Feb 14 I had an "incident" at the Burbank airport. I went to court and paid an $81.00 fine for disturbing the peace rather than fight the battle and risk losing. They kept my medicine but returned the pipe as it was brand new. |

Rep Power: 12 | Re: Protest Burbank Airport Bust Feb 14 PETER KEYES - The City of Burbank wants its Drug Money! The City of Burbank wants its Drug Money and has called Peter Keyes's bluff. Peter Keyes, a 38 year old, Medical Marijuana Activist and patient is ordered to return for trial on March 7, 2006 at 1:30 pm at Burbank Superior Court, 300 East Olive, Dept 2, Burbank, CA to answer to charges of possession of less than 1 ounce of Marijuana. Peter who had just attended the Americans for Safe Access conference at Pickwick Conference Center was arrested and cited at Burbank airport last January for possession as he attempted to board a flight to his home in Sacramento. Armed with his recommendation, Peter and his beautiful wife, Vanessa Nelson flew down yesterday to represent himself in front of Commissioner Kirkland Nyby. Commissioner Nyby, who played at being a Judge kept busy all day long raking in a minimum of $360.00 from many young people charged with possessing less than 1 ounce of the wholesome weed. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why the judicial systems throughout the United States don't want Marijuana legal; just look at the money they would loose. Let's not forget what they steal through the forfeiture laws. But I digress. The courageous Mr. Keyes could cave in and pay the same $360.00 fine and save himself a lot of time, aggravation and airfare, but it's doubtful. No one could blame him as this patient needs to medicate frequently (anybody have some Romulan). Being medicated and going to court is not my idea of fun. Or maybe it's the only way. The jury is still out on that one. Other than mine and the occasional would-be Valentine, NO red shirts were visible, folks. I know we can do better. Jury trial is set for late March unless the light finally goes on in Commissioner Nyby's shiny cranium. This court supporter can't wait. See you all there next month. And Peter, get yourself a wooden pipe. Loring Greene |

Rep Power: 12 | Re: Protest Burbank Airport Bust Feb 14 City of Burbank Coughs up a Dismissal The City of Burbank reluctantly dismissed its case against Peter Keyes, a 38 year old, Medical Marijuana Patient and Activist who had been ordered to return for trial on March 7, 2006 at Burbank Superior Court to answer to charges of possession of less than 1 ounce of Marijuana. Last January, Peter who had just attended the (ASA) Americans for Safe Access conference at the Pickwick Conference Center was arrested and cited at Bob Hope Airport last January for possession as he attempted to board a flight to his home in Sacramento. A TSA agent found Peter’s pipe which led to a full body search. The agent found a small amount of Cannabis in Peter’s pants but missed a larger amount of the wholesome, pain reducing herb secreted away in another location. He was cited and detained causing he and his wife to miss their flight. In the ensuing weeks Mr. Keyes made numerous attempts to provide the Burbank District Attorney with his Doctor’s recommendation both by mail and in person. Finally after his 2nd personal appearance the district attorney reluctantly acknowledged his recommendation and moved for a dismissal, which Commissioner Kirkland Nyby promptly ratified avoiding a minimum fine of $360.00 to Peter. At the time of his arrest Peter provided his recommendation but a Burbank cop opted to let the Justice department sort it out. This practice is part of the Burbank’s money machine that continues to profit on the persecution of Cannabis patients. After the DA’s dismissal, she was overheard saying “don’t be walking around with it, it’s a Federal offense”. It’s pretty fair to assume that the Burbank Justice Department is aligned with the Dark Side on this issue and not the side of California voters who passed Prop. 215 and SB 420. His senseless arrest just added insult to injury as Peter along with all the attendees of the January ASA conference were discriminated against when the owners of the Pickwick Conference Center shuttered its doors to the 2nd day of the 2 day event when patients attending openly medicated in designated smoking areas. According to Don Duncan of Americans for Safe Access medicating was allowed at another previous ASA event at the Center. ASA has considered a class action suit against the Center but with the promising Data Quality Act law suit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in full swing its obvious they have much bigger fish to fry. The Data Quality Act, a little-known statute passed by the Bush Administration in an appropriations bill, lets citizens challenge the accuracy of government-disseminated information. Winning this case could put an end to the misinformation campaign against Cannabis by U.S. health agencies. Loring Greene |
