Rep Power: 2041 | I emailed my district senator in regards to him supporting the Senate Joint Resolution 14, this was his response to my plead. "Thank you for your recent correspondence to express support for Senate Joint Resolution 14 (Leno), which urges the President, the Congress, and the Attorney General's office to adopt less stringent federal policy on medical marijuana. I am unable to support this measure because, in 2005, the US Supreme Court upheld federal drug laws, and included a legal basis for federal authorities to conduct raids and enforce the law. State laws regarding this issue do not trump national laws, and sending a resolution to the President and Congress asking them to do so is a waste of California resources. Taxpayer money could be better spent working on solutions to alleviate the state's impending budget deficit. SJR 14 is awaiting a hearing of the Senate Health Committee on July 15th. You may monitor the status of the bill by logging onto www.sen.ca.gov/runner. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with me. Although we do not agree on the merits of this measure, please don't hesitate to contact me in the future regarding legislative issues of concern to you. It is an honor to serve you in the California State Senate. Sincerely, GEORGE C. RUNNER, JR. Senator, 17th District" :confused1::thumbdown: Just wanted to share that all with you. |

Rep Power: 5910 | Re: My email to George Runner Yeah Runner needs to be voted out that is for sure. He is anti marijuana for sure. Here is what he wrote me about AB390 the bill to legalize marijuana in California. Thank you for your correspondence expressing support for Assembly Bill390 (Ammiano), which would legalize the possession, sale, and cultivation of marijuana by persons 21 years of age and older and would set up a wholesale and retail marijuana sales regulation program. While I appreciate your point of view, I cannot in good conscience support this legislation because I do not believe in the decriminalization of marijuana. It is a gateway drug and encouraging its use would only lead to more people trying and abusing harder and more dangerous drugs. Additionally, your argument that there would be tax revenue generated from the sale of marijuana may be true but the amount of revenue raised would not necessarily offset the cost to society. Indeed, the same argument could be made about many currently illegal activities but legalizing them would not mean those activities would be good for society as a whole. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me.While we do not agree on the merits this bill, please don't hesitate to contact me in the future regarding other legislative issues of concern to you. It is an honor to serve you in the California State Senate. Sincerely, GEORGE C. RUNNER, JR. Senator, 17th District |

Rep Power: 11017 | Re: My email to George Runner Maybe someone should reply back with a well worded response pointing out that the California Supreme court ruled that Federal laws DO NOT supercede the laws of the States. Doubt that it would help, but maybe if this guy hears some good arguments it would sway his opinions. Probably just read and responded to be one of his staff anyways. |
