Rep Power: 4229 | May 4th, Van Nuys City Hall: Be Counted! I am pleased to announce that on May 4th at 10:00 AM, we will be gathering at Van Nuys City Hall to express just how we feel about the LAPD's recent actions against collectives! We urge patients to carpool if possible and we also ask that any patients under our care who wish to speak their minds do so. Let's use this particular forum wisely and responsibly by telling the LAPD that attrocities upon collectives will not be tolerated. Van Nuys City Hall 14410 Sylvan St Van Nuys, CA 91401 We cannot wait to speak our minds in the presence of our friends, patients, fellow advocates and other like-minded individuals who will not bow to any gestures that are akin to that of a police state. Thank you all. Please spread the word, we need as many bodies as we can get for this one. Let's show them we mean what we say, that our slogans are more than just pretty phrases. Love from everybody at The Karma Collective Last edited by Lou Weed; 05-02-2007 at 09:24 PM.. |

Being that this is not a meeting we are conducting, I really can't say much of anything concerning minutes or schedules - however, being that it is city council, I doubt that this will be overly long or terribly unpredictable, at least per our agenda as patients. Typically the public comments will be second on the agenda after all the pomp & circumstance crap. We attended the City Council Meeting Yesterday D/T and got some attention so it is important to attend these meetings at least til these folks get a clue. | |

| Re: May 4th, Van Nuys City Hall: Be Counted! I hope that there is a good turn out Friday especially Valley Collective Operators that have so much at stake. Good luck I will not be able to make this one so I would like to tell you this is when you really need to stand up and be heard. Solidarity is not a matter of sentiment but a fact, cold and impassive as the granite foundations of a skyscraper. If the basic elements, identity of interest, clarity of vision, honesty of intent, and oneness of purpose, or any of these is lacking, all sentimental pleas for solidarity, and all other efforts to achieve it will be barren of results. "It is the mission of the Los Angeles Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve, to reduce the incidence and fear of crime, and to enhance public safety while working with the diverse communities to improve their quality of life. Our mandate is to do so with honor and integrity, while at all times conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards to maintain public confidence. " That is the mission statement of the LAPD. The LAPD is living outside there stated mission by disrespecting state law at this level. I'ts amazing to think that on the LAPD'S website they state that there Narcotics should be doing as follows Responsibilites of the Narcotics Division The LAPD Narcotics Division is respondible for the following: - Investigating and interdicting the importation of illegal drugs in the City of Los Angeles - Investigating and arresting drug dealers and buyers who engage in illegal drug transactions - Assisting prosecuting agencies in preparing successful narcotics cases for court - Preparing narcotics-related civil and criminal forfeiture cases involving illegal profits derived from drug transactions - Collecting, archiving and disseminating narcotics-related intelligence for successful narcotics investigations and prosecution - Acting as a legislative analyst for proposed laws involving illegal narcotics in the City of Los Angeles, the State of California or, before the United States Congress How do people living under state law apply to there definitons? Shouldnt they be focusing on the black market created by installing fear in the sick and dying? The LAPD's website also states: The LAPD’s Narcotics Division is the largest drug enforcement entity in Southern California. It is responsible for enforcing local, state and federal narcotics laws throughout the City of Los Angeles. Working in partnership, the police and the community can make a difference and help improve the quality of life citywide. bullshit. 11. All State officials must uphold The Compassionate Use Act of 1996 regardless of whether or not it is said to conflict with federal law [Constitution of the State of California, Amendment III, Section 3.5(c).] Since no judicial challenge has been filed seeking to invalidate the law on the basis of a conflict with federal laws or regulations, or for any other reason, ALL California officials are legally obligated to uphold the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 [Constitution of the State of California, Article 3, Section 3.5(a, b, c)]. welcome to 1984. pz! adolfo |

Rep Power: 4229 | Re: May 4th, Van Nuys City Hall: Be Counted! Several supporters of The Karma Collective, including employees, patients, like-minded advocates and friends sat in on the meeting with us today and spoke out against Captain James Miller's apparent distaste for medicated edibles. The response from the community continues to blow our minds. What was said today rang true for several members of the Council, judging by an alarmingly supportive response that rattled our group a little. There's a lot to to do yet, but I have got to lend a huge hand to our Resident Cowboy. Thanks for the tears and smiles. Your words and presence reminds us why we do this, despite the difficulties certain local authorities are placing upon us at this time. Thank you all for everything. I am very proud to be a patient and employee at Karma. Write your reps. Write Stephanie Landa. Write a poem. Do whatever it takes to keep this fire kindled. |

Rep Power: 4229 | Re: May 4th, Van Nuys City Hall: Be Counted! It was really shocking when Councilman Rosendahl unleashed his opinion. Everybody is somebody's something. This is what I want our local and federal forces to remember. We all have names, extenuating circumstances and the desire for a better quality of life. We are daughters, sons, mothers, husbands, wives, grandparents, lovers, friends and advocates. We are going to use every resource we have to remind our authorities of this, as respectfully as we can. Please respect us as citizens and the aforementioned relations and associations by not interrupting our right to obtain and provide safe access. |

If you want your posts to be taken seriously, HAVE SOME CONTENT. Smileys aren't content. And before you bitch about it, it's IN THE RULES, which you agreed to when you signed onto this message board. This is a VERY serious topic, let's show the topic and those who are fighting for YOUR continued medicinal access some respect. If you're not going to show respect, kindly SHUT THE FUCK UP. |

Rep Power: 4229 | Re: May 4th, Van Nuys City Hall: Be Counted! Lady Ding Dong provided laughs at my house this morning. It's the small things sometimes. For those of you who haven't seen the video, let me run you through some of the comments. We each have different methods that turn into an amazingly cohesive unit. I wish I could turn this into a grindhouse poster. Speakers of note, of the community and not of the community: Lady Ding Dong - Dislikes the noisy church near her home. She breaks into a chant of Ding dong, ding dong, ding dong. I am laughing and trying to regain my composure because ....I am next! Lou Weed - I stress that we are more than compliant and willing to work with our city, provided our city works with us rather than against us. I namecheck a man whose actions I do not like very much. My mission while speaking is to set an even tone for everybody else to extrapolate upon. My dress looks hemp-y. I am evoking this for a reason, thank you very much. Patrick Himself - They cut the wrong equipment when he got heated. Of course he got heated! Rightfully so. The man is a hurricane and if you tell him to shut up, you've just gone and done it. He will not shut up, he will remind you that we are individuals with conditions all over the spectrum who voted for safe access and as such, should receive it. They may take away your lights but may they never take away your mic. Dege' Coutee - Intense, stupifying passion, as always. She told of threats and intimidation placed upon herself and the Karma staff. She told them a whole lot and she told them well. I cannot paraphrase this woman. You shouldn't either. Let's go with 'protect us from our protectors' if we must, until everybody can see the video. Lady A. - An incredibly close Karma family member. Her life flipped 180 degrees when she became a patient and advocate. Not only was she able to fulfill her obligations to herself and her family, she regained a sense of self and accomplishment. These guys are going to take that away from her? She doesn't think so. Mister A. - One of my dearest friends and fellow co-workers at Karma. He stressed how taxing these events have been on us as human beings and providers of safe access. From a completely unjustified investigation to watching somebody we love and believe in being arrested and identified as a criminal, Mister A. calmly explained what is essentially our mission at Karma and why your tax dollars are wasted on raids into legal collectives. His conviction was apparent. Mister B. - A patient of ours who brought the house down by speaking of his condition before he came to medical cannabis as a means of improving his quality of life. His pleas moved me to tears. His story is a common one among us patients, but this doesn't make it any less extraordinary. We got to help him save his own life. Councilman Rosendahl saw fit to speak up by calling for an investigation against these antiquated drug policies enforced by a certain administration in a certain era we refer to as the 1980's. Our jaws drop. We speak with him and are given his card before we depart the building. There's much more but I've got stuff to do and several other posters would be happy to elaborate or already have :D I'll add more soon. Last edited by Lou Weed; 05-05-2007 at 03:14 PM.. |
