March to bring awareness to Mayor of Los Angeles Tuesday May 27, 2008 Come Join Us!

Where’s
Antonio?

Other California leaders
are speaking up about
medical marijuana…
but where is Mayor
Antonio Villaraigosa?

11 AM * Tuesday
May 27, 2008
South Lawn City Hall *
Downtown between 1st & N. Main St., LA

Join us for a peaceful protest to
ask the Mayor to oppose federal
interference & intimidation in California’s
medical marijuana program!
Map & Info www.ASAaction.org
www.AmericansForSafeAccess.org
Toll free (888) 929-4367

The DEA is interfering with the City’s effort to
adopt sensible regulations for medical
marijuana by raiding patients’ groups and
intimidating property owners. Mayors in San
Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Santa
Cruz have joined LA City Council Member
Dennis Zine, Orange County Supervisor
Chris Norby, and other leaders in supporting
Congressional action to stop the federal
interference and intimidation.

It is time for
Mayor Villaraigosa to break his silence
and speak up!

Get involved in the campaign for safe access!

Now don't you go getting negative on me, Lil' Shelly420. This community is coming around more and more everyday and you have to believe that. Do you remember twenty years ago? There was a time when we'd get pulled over and jailed for seeds, Darlin'. You know this.

But you're right. We could lose it all. That's why us being loud now is SO important. We must keep this issue alive and in the forefront. Still, don't ever let it take your hope away. Hope is what make moving mountains possible. Keep it safe in your heart.

See ya on Tuesday, Shelly. Looking forward to meeting you and whatever of this cyber community is there by our sides. And if you can't be there remember there are things you can do. Contact the Mayor. Email him. Call him. Flood him. Let him know where you as a patient stand!

Re: March to bring awareness to Mayor of Los Angeles Tuesday May 27, 2008 Come Join U

huh! sorry to be less than auspicious here, but i wouldn't hold my breath w/this mayor in helping us out. i have called his office several times in the past few months trying to figure out where he stands on this issue and to ask that he support our cause, but every time i get nothing from his staff-no comment. the frustrating thing is that this mayor will go out of his way to represent illegal immigrants, show up at their rally's and marches(his illegal voting constituents), and even call the feds on their behalf to tell them to back off the ICE raids at the clothing factories in LA. but he has never came out to support or show any compassion or concern for legal mj patients-that's beyond offensive imo and someone really needs to give him that message.

ps lets not forget who the mayor used to represent before he was mayor- gang bangers. together w/ the LA chapter ACLU (i believe he was the prez), he fought tooth and nail w/ the la police/la city council over gang injunctions, arguing that banning deadly gang members from congragating in the park where innocent families and children play, was "unfair to gang bangers."

how this guy became mayor is beyond me.

Re: March to bring awareness to Mayor of Los Angeles Tuesday May 27, 2008 Come Join U

None the less, he is the one we need to protest to...

Even if he far from desirable as a Mayor... We still need his support. (and lot's of good press coverage)

There is a common question on many psychological test batteries: If you were stranded on a desert island with your mortal enemy.. and had to cooperate in order to survive.... Would you?

I don't dig the guy. But he is the current "guy". Better our voice in his ear than the DEA's.

Time to make him accountable for his constituents.

MMJ is the question in the class on Tuesday. But where is Antonio? Skipping school again?

Tuesday. Be there. If not us...who?

Does anyone have the Mayor's contact info to post here: Phone#, email address, snail mail?

I think it's a great idea for those who can't physically be there on Tuesday to at least call email or write to the mayor.

Hey Shelly,

Try to stay positive. Focus on what you want from your fellow community members and praise those that make the effort. Don't waste your time and energy worrying about those that are comfortable and lazy. they don't deserve your precious time and energy but people like farmer and the others who make a difference to. Lets work together to make this protest a success.

Much love and respect,
Herbalious

The sad thing is, the MMJ community will pour so much effort in the events on Tuesday and the P.O.S., piss-poor excuse that we currently have for mayor (tony villar) will sideswipe the issue and find a way of not addressing the concerns at hand.

I seriously never thought we would never have a mayor worse than Jim Hahn..... I stand corrected!

Okay, here's what I got so far and PLEASE if it's wrong correct it so we have the most update info.

Mayor Villaraigosa's email is mayor@lacity.org

His address is
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
Mayor's office/ City Hall
200 Spring st.
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Phone:213-978-0600
Fax Phone 213-978-0750

Hope this is all correct.

As far as the negativity goes, never fails whenever I put up a thread announcing a protest or action I'm always amazed by the amount of negativity some folks feel they're entitled to share with the rest of us. Go figure. I can't control their actions or reactions much more than stop the rain. Don't mean nothing. Just gotta keep keeping on, ya know, H? Whatchagonnado?

I hope as many of this WT community as possible will be there tomorrow. Besides the June 3rd Malibu action at the city council there, the next activist related action isn't taking place until the end of June. More on that later.

But for now, if you can, please bring all your positivity and hope to the March on the Mayor tomorrow.

Slowly, slowly, surely we'll make a change!

sorry about that farmer, but i was just venting -sometimes i can't help it. i have tried very hard w/ this mayor but have gotten no where.

but by all means, please try again and do your best tomorrow-i'll try to be there, if not i'll be sending the emails. :smile2:

btw if someone can write a professional letter and have it preformatted for others to email it to the mayors office, i think that will help in getting his attention. the more emails from different people, the better.

gtate, this is an awesome idea. I hope someone capable reads and contributes as I think it would give us an even more professional look, ya know?

Great idea!!! And don't sweat the venting. After all look at your name, stirring it up! Just keep that energy flowing to help also. Know you do. Keep it up cuz we're all gonna make a difference in the end!

We rallied in front of the Governor's office when he would not take the time to listen to us or take a position on MMJ, and after that rally his staff quickly had time to meet with MMJ reps. We have to come out and make these politicians take a stand. If we don't protest and rally in a vocal and physical way then we are invisible to the politicians and to the public. Tuesday's rally can be nothing but helpful to further the cause of medical cannabis.

If we gather, he will respond. Or at least his staff will. Which is better than the situation we have now.

Herbalicious, you've done so much to get people out to this by your previous post about the petition to the mayor. Everyone who signed that petition will be present (at least in spirit and effort) on Tuesday!
I will not be at work on Tuesday from 11-1. I'll be seeing all of you in front of the Mayor's office.

But for now, if you can, please bring all your positivity and hope to the March on the Mayor tomorrow.

Slowly, slowly, surely we'll make a change!
Dear Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa,

I'm a responsible senior at a prominent university in Los Angeles, a tax payer, and a voter. I also happen to be a medical marijuana patient. I was injured on the job over 2 years ago while working my way through junior college. I suffer chronic and debilitating pain. I have been unable to work for almost three years now. The pain corresponds to the use of my hands, arms, shoulders, and neck and effects those areas plus my fingers, elbows, back, and head. Simple and mundane activities become very painful easily. I am in significant pain while writing this letter to you. I've been prescribed a wide range of prescription medicine and have had complications with most of them. I have found pain relief from the use of medical cannabis. UC San Diego and UC Davis have both scientifically found pain relief from medical cannabis, just as my personal experience has proven. My mind and body seem to be able to handle the side effects of medical cannabis better than most prescription pain medicines. My pain, mind, and body receive more benefits from medical cannabis than pharmaceuticals. My condition is not fatal but limits my quality of life far more than I prefer it to. It is my belief that cannabis is federally misscheduled as a schedule one drug, like heroine. Schedule one drugs are thought to have no known medical benefits and to be highly addictive. There is a myriad of medical and scientific evidence that cannabis is medically beneficial and no more addictive than tobacco and caffeine. Please educate yourself on the facts about cannabis and set aside any biases or stereotypes you have about cannabis and its users. I implore you to join LA's city Council and California Mayors from San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, and Santa Cruz in support of patient rights. I voted for medical cannabis in 1996, the first year I was allowed to vote. Please make sure my medical cannabis vote counts. The DEA is interfering with the City’s effort to adopt sensible regulations for medical marijuana by raiding patients’ groups and intimidating property owners. Please support Congressional action to stop the federal interference and intimidation. It is time for you to break you silence on this issue and speak up patients and voters!

With respect,
Herbalious

================================================== ========

This is the email I just sent to the Mayor. Its not the most professional but its personal and direct. I really can't type much more. We should FLOOD the mayor's email box with personal stories, cannabis facts, and requests for support.

I'll call tomorrow too (or I might call tonight & see if I can leave a message).
