Rep Power: 6607 | So few people so little time. I for one was unable to go to support my boys, but I was taking care of business that should have been done in time, but lo and behold two hours ended up all day long! Anyway, my insomnia has had me up all night reading the boards. The biggest conclusions I come to are these:
With these in mind, I would like to organize a statewide (yes, state wide, that means small towns too!) protest. Many of you say that can't be done, or that small towns won't have as much of an affect. I'm a true believer that the more close knit community of a small town will stop and listen to this one atleast they will pay attention for a second. If the problem is that most people can't come downtown LA at the drop of a hat, then we need to bring the protests to them. If the problem is that short notice isn't getting the numbers, then we need to plan quickly, but without haste so as not to make another "we really don't care" message (really, I only counted about 30 heads, probably half of them were regular activists, some of them seemed to want to be on tv, and a few tried and true supporters who came out JUST because of NNCC.) My plan is to organize a state-wide rally, within each home town. Yes, some places won't get the crowds like others, but that is where the organization and preparation will come into play. I would like to make these individual rallies occur at a local pharmacy, with some sort of them like "They took my medicine, aren't you glad they don't take yours?" - I know, too wordy, but mind you I've been up all night and just pouring through stuff to find out what is going on with my club up the road. I believe that having something done in front of a similar organization, maybe some signs out there about, profiting from medication sales is being treated as illegal, how much is name of pharmacymaking in profit? Or they closed my pharmacy for making a profit off of me, maybe they should do that to yours. Basically, you get the idea of the theme. I think this will make the biggest impression, because most people going there are either sick themselves, or a loved one caring for someone sick. A good cross of the public will see these protests, instead of just suits that work down by city hall - your everyday people, grandmas, friends and family of people who need medications as well, people who may be just learning about the ability to use medicinal marijuana because you are there... these are the people we want to impress. The lawmakers, they aren't budging quite so quickly. We need to impress upon more people to get involved. I'm sure something like this would end up giving us a wonderful appearance in numbers as well as make it easier for more numbers to arrive. I would like to get someone to help me out with this. The next step from there would be to get some people from different cities. Please post your city as a new thread under this post (I'm still learning the site, I think thats the way it goes) if you are able to commit to doing this sometime withing no more than two weeks, hopefully less than one. Once you see your city name, please just sign up under that. I would like to have one person in each city as an ambassador for the cause, like a spokesperson or media face. I would also like to have one person in each city that can volunteer transportation to those who are unable to drive. Remember, this is a small city, not metro LA, so no more than a few miles to get your numbers up. I will work closely with the cities and we will vote on a mutual date. Of course, we know the time. As we get city names, please, will someone list the local stations they have for abc, cbs, nbc, fox. I will work on contacting the agencies to notify them of a major event going to happen with the MMJ movement. We want to stir the excitement. Hopefully, as we get a bunch of groups together, seeing a group of ralliers in most cities and towns all at a choreographed time will definitely make an impact and make it easier for those of us to make that impact. Let's get this started......... |

Is there a mass media / notice outlet somewhere that can autosend to all the clubs? Perhaps if we get their participation as mabye one of the key sponsors for each town, it will keep people focused on it? |

Great suggestion on the mags, I am going to focus on that, since the month starts soon and it looks like they probably would have already finished their production. I have my doubts as to space on such short notice, but nothing is impossible! So, in my early planning ideas here, I would guess that it seems the magazines may not offer the information because they are already published, so we would have to look at doing this (yah, u like this) in December if we want mags, or maybe a different approach if we want to get out there soon. I liked the idea about light up city hall, nice title too. I actually thought about something similar... but it was more of the bad boys protest than the good boys. According to the law, we have the right to smoke anywhere we can smoke tobacco, aside from just a few exceptions (school, rec area, etc.) I had considered some reggae protests, but those would have just really pushed buttons, that's why I didn't mention them. But something like a pow wow protest, if that gives you the idea. Anyway, not going to do that! Ooh, ok, heres an idea...... cant get words for it... but a series of events, different days and different locations, like some places couldnt do this on the same day because not enough people to do it... then they could pick their day out of 10 more dates. The twelve days of marijuana protests.... ok, ok, (sorry, thinking as I write and talking out "loud")..... See the next post I make titled The Twelve Days of Protest (like the 12 days of Christmas!)

I like that. We may have to pay the printing cost for it if they offer it... although I don't know that I have seen them advertise somethinng of the nature for protest... but, hey... wait... they do have those tv's on there, transit tv, they have a news crew! People are drawn to watch the tv just because its boring on long buses! I like it... (and nice name by the way!)

In regards to your question ~ nearby to whom ? ~ Anyways ,SantaMonica/Venice/MarinadelRey hav a '"double-decker"' open top bus that tours around town w/adv signs ~ if MTA's buses are cost prohibitive ,there are all those bus stop posters and the placards arranged near interior of bus roofline ~ public transportation advertising is like having subconscious coverage almost 24/7/365 ~ that is all

Rep Power: 6607 | Re: Twelve Days of Protest (sing it with me now) Thanks babybubba. Sorry for the sad part, unfortunately it probably describes a great deal of us out here that are lost waiting to hear from our "king". Thanks for the compliment and support... I am working madly on a million ideas at once, and trying to plan this all out so that I have a lot of calls and contacts to be made Monday morning! I just wish that there was a better way to get notice out there more specifically to our patients support than generically to the public. I believe we have public backing, its the stingy politicians that are the haters here. I think one person hit it on the head, without illegal marijuana running around out there, police departments are taking a major cut in the extra money they took in throughout the year off of busts and confiscations. If you have any suggestions or idea, especially of a way to spread the word, I am open ears (well, I'm legall deaf, so let's just say open eyes!) |

Yeah the placards was more of the concept that came to mind first when you said the buses, they would definitely have a far less expense and we could do more for probably less than just one bus :) These double deckers, what are those, like Star Line Tours or something like that? Those aren't metro right? Oooh, gosh I hate when I hear a good idea! LOL... I'm already brainstorming a poster idea... I need an artist!

Rep Power: 1773 | Re: I have a protest idea and am looking for some experienced people to assist planni I entirely agree Wolfie my friend, in fact I started writing a similar post but abandoned it because my end game seems implausible. In my analysis of our situation I have come to the following conclusions. First, this can't just be a protest on the part of patients and caregivers. Honestly, I think patients and caregivers, at least in part, don't show up to protests because they're afraid of being singled out. So let's get all kinds of people in on this. Sooo, anybody give any thought to using Facebook to promote this? I mean it is a social networking site. Second, I think we're gonna have to disrupt some things to get people to pay attention. Now, I'm not talking violence or anything. In fact I think that we can be more creative than that. I just think we need to move past the image of a few people with cardboard signs and actually give people something to talk about. Just a few thoughts. |

Rep Power: 6607 | Re: I have a protest idea and am looking for some experienced people to assist planni So, what exactly was your idea? I think the boards with protest discussion have some great ideas, but they get a bit heated, I am not a combative type of person, so I backed out of their discussions. But, I think if we got something together, something big that would incorporate a lot of their ideas, and got the promotion from the mags and local shops and maybe even some ad space from WT once they see its big... something that would have to come out in December (publishing time), and I think the 12 Days of Protest theme song so to speak sets the tone, with 12 days of different things throughout local places, not just city hall or the places the big wigs gather. What are your thoughts? |

See i myself have been trying to figure out how to get more patients at these events. Its a pain. I do understand there would be say a 5% drop off of people that show for protests because of rides, kids etc. But were seeing more like 50% people that dont show that say they will. There is obviously some other dominating factor here eh? lol Would be great to see co-ops offer lets say $5 discount on an 1/8 if you show to protests, and come back with some proof, but then that will be completely based on the club. |

Yeah, I was working on some sort of idea where everyone that showed got a gram. All the local sponsoring coops would donate coupons for it, numbered to keep track of course! As the people were readyto leave for the day (so no double dips) they would get their coupon. The coupons would be stacked alternating (#1 from coop A, #1 from coop B, #2 from coop A, #2 from coop B) so that noone took the bulk of the cost to sponsor the event, and everyone got to get involved in it.
