Call on the Governor to Defend California's Medical Marijuana Laws!

Over the past several years, President Bush's Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has victimized patients and providers throughout California, undermining state law and stooping to new levels to shut down access for sick and dying patients in California. We must put an end to the attack on patients and providers!

Americans for Safe Access (ASA) has launched a pressure campaign, calling on Governor Schwarzenegger to "Stand Up for Patients' Rights: Defend California's Medical Marijuana Laws."

We are calling on Governor Schwarzenegger to defend the rights of medical cannabis patients and caregivers and the will of the voters in California by standing up to the Bush Administration. We are urging him to take a stand against federal medical cannabis enforcement and to support efforts to harmonize federal law with the compassionate laws of California and the eleven other states that allow medical cannabis use.

ASA's new campaign consists of statewide call in days, legislative visits from constituents and lobbyists, and sign-on letters from key public officials and organizations. This pressure will build up to a mass mobilization on Thursday, October 11th, to Governor Schwarzenegger's office in Los Angeles.

The only way this campaign will be successful is if people like you take action to protect California's patients, providers, and medical marijuana laws! Please read on for ways to get involved.

What You Can Do:

In order to pressure the governor to stand up for patients' rights, ASA has come up with 4 easy ways to take action!

1. Stand Up for Patients' Rights: Statewide Mobilization to the Governor's Los Angeles Office on Thursday, October 11th

On Thursday, October 11, 2007, ASA is calling on medical cannabis supporters to join us in a statewide mobilization to the Governor’s office in Los Angeles.

What: Stand Up for Patients' Rights Rally
When: Thursday, October 11, 2007, starting at 12:00pm.
Where: Governor Schwarzenegger's Los Angeles District Office
300 South Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013
Why: Governor Schwarzenegger needs to know that patients are being attacked and need their rights protected!

2. Call Governor Schwarzenegger's Office and Demand that He Stand Up for Patients' Rights!

Call the governor's headquarters today to urge him to stand up for patients' rights by calling on the Bush administration to end the DEA raids on state-sanctioned patients and providers.

On Thursday, October 11, we are gathering at your office in Los Angeles, I urge you to join us on that day to stand up for patients’ rights. I also urge you to defend California's laws and call on the Bush Administration to end the attack on patients and providers. Please let me know what you plan to do."

3. Click Here to E-mail the Governor. Ask Him to Defend California's Medical Marijuana Laws and Call on the Bush Administration to End the War on Patients.
Visit ASA's online action center to take immediate action and send an e-mail to the governor.

4. Spread the Word! Download and Distribute!

Download and distribute the following materials in your community to get the word out about the Governor Schwarzenegger: Stand Up For Patients Rights campaign! Distribute ASA's poster and flyer in local shops, cafes, dispensaries, and other community gathering places to get others to take action.

The only way we can win this campaign is strength in numbers. That means, the more people we get involved and distribute these posters and flyers to, the more powerful we are.

We are kicking our California campaign into high gear this Fall, and we need your help to make it happen! I hope you will all make a special effort to attend the LA-ASA meeting this coming Saturday, September 22. This will be the primary planning meeting for the big October 11 mobilization to the Governor’s office in LA. i honestly dont think arnie going to show up cause ther's not monies to be gained or political gains or at least that how he thinks.

but maybe just maybe if say all of the ppl who have recs and caregivers did call in that many numbers might just might make the man think twice.

I have been tellin as many people as possible!! And not only to bring themselves but all their friends who want to fight for our cause as well!! Our power shall come in numbers! If we are lucky, this will be the rally to blow them all away! I have been to a handful of protests and each time I see fewer and fewer people. Yet people say that they will attend... Everyone knows that it is difficult to get off of work, but with plenty of notice there should be no excuse to miss this event!

If every dispensary sent atleast 2 of their employees/volunteers with there being at least 200 in LA alone.. you do the math... and take a second to think about how much of an impact those numbers would bring...

NOW is the time for us to show up in mass and follow through with what we are presenting to the governor... He must see that we mean business, and that this is something worth fighting for.


We are a community, and this is more than just some hippie lifestyle.. Medical Marijuana helps people. Please do your part in fighting for safe access, otherwise our beautiful creation will never flourish.

WE SHOULD HAVE A LETTER WRITING PARTY...emails are fine but handwritten letters are valued much HIGHER (pun intended) than mass email.

If you wait it gets to the office flacks (consitituent affairs representatives) as the choice activated by hitting number seven. Be sure to invite him to join with us on Oct. 11 at his headquarters in LA and see if he can borrow some of the Governor back bone cream from Bill Richardson. Apparently it is a miracle drug when applied to governor backsides.

Agreed! Also, there are postcards circulating at many dispensaries and through ASA chapters throughout the state. It's easy to fill one out and send it to the Governor.

An open letter to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger:

September 27, 2007

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger

Once again, the Federal Government has decided to flex its muscles and show its disdain for the voters of the State of California.

Yesterday, in Sacramento, under the shadow of our State Capitol's dome, Federal Drug Enforcement Agency stormtroopers with their black masks and machine guns inflicted their violent will against the very people that the compassionate voters of the State of California voted to help with the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.

Isnt it strange that the supposed "good guys" are the ones with the masks and the guns, and the "bad guys" are the ones in wheelchairs and hospital beds. Doesnt that appear wrong to you?

I realize that this is a complex legal issue, with States Rights being at it's very core.

I feel that it is time for you to stand up, and represent the overwhelming majority of voters of California and LEAD the fight to establish our States Rights to make appropriate laws to govern our population safely and in accordance with known science and the compassionate views of our voters. For you to do anything less seems to be tacit agreement that we DONT have a right to govern ourselves.

You were swept into the office with a hope that you would provide strong leadership, and that you would NOT be a typical "political hack" who was beholden to the corporate masters.

This seems to be a wonderful chance to reaffirm those hopes.

Please Governor Schwarzenegger, STAND UP FOR CALIFORNIA! Support California voters. Support Safe Access to medical marijuana for patients in California under the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, and Senate Bill 420.

im a 6'4 260 healty as an ox lookin guy. but under the skin i have type 2 bi-polar disorder and mmj is the only thing that seems to calm me down when i go into a manic frenzy. people seriously have the wrong idea about us. yes it is true that we have these stupid pot heads who abuse the system because they have nothing better to do with their lives but be stoners, but i work for the government as a medical professional for pre-hospital care and i see much of this going on out in the field. fuck what 60 min says, we need to make sure we all go to these rallys and protest. we as patients and stores are the forfront and poineers of this system. we must set a good example

Just a FYI - something NICE to say to the MAN like "THANK YOU SIR for lending us the 3.5 million to start up the program that everyone ELSE in the goverment was playing "Cetch 22" with - saying "we don't have start up money for it"

I just don't get it arnold is not a stranget to weed yet he continues to percecute us. Many of us have the diseases such as Fibromyaglgia and Chronic Fatigue in which MMJ helps but were often labeled, But You Don't Look Sick.

We must be civil as always and be courteous to our Governor for past accomplishments, yet press for even more of his "compassion" to the health needs of all Californians, especially MMJ patients.
