| brainstorming for the April 26 protest I just spoke to Don Duncan from ASA LA and shared some of my ideas with him about getting people to the April 26 protest at the federal building in Westwood and treating it more as an MMJ event. he said he liked my ideas and said he will be busy until Wednesday with court cases and other MMJ activism. I'm going to share my ideas with you here in hopes you can add to them and contribute your own. Don told me he was looking for volunteers to make phone calls and e-mails. I suggested a sample script that can be posted here in a thread asking for volunteers. I also suggested a sample e-mail that can be copied, pasted, and forwarded. I also suggested a way of rewarding volunteers for e-mailing others. A printout of the forwarded e-mail addresses included with the email itself could be redeemed for small gifts/prizes. Example: maybe a co-op is willing to give a free gram to any patient who brings a copy of their e-mail forwarded to a hundred e-mail addresses. co-ops would have to be very careful about how they announced such promotion (like limit per one customer with an expiration date, etc). co-ops can be contacted by volunteers canvassing specific areas/neighborhoods. For example: I'd be willing to contact any co-op within my immediate area (mar vista)to ask for their support in the April 19th protests. I could also ask MMI because I frequent them most but I'm sure MMI can volunteer themselves for anything they want, since are so active on these boards co-ops can offer coupons for discounts or free grams. Or donate any paraphernalia like lighters and lighter leashes, etc. or money to buy items to be put into gift bags to be handed out on April 26 I also believe it's important to recognize hard-working individuals within this movement for their efforts. It would be nice to have some sort of acknowledgment ceremony during the protests on April 26. we need to take advantage of every event leading up to April 26 for promotional purposes. Maybe the comity event happening on April 13 can announce the protests on April 26. And maybe volunteers can make it a point to talk to other people about the protests when they attend that event. The same thing with 420. Volunteers can announce and talk about the protest on April 26 at any 420 event/co-opthey visit that day. I think an organizational meeting needs to occur as soon as possible with as many people who can attend, so that we can move quickly into action. We can post action plans for anybody who is unable to attend these organizational meetings. it would probably help to have area/neighborhood leaders to help organize promotion in that area/neighborhood and to organize carpooling and ride shares from that area to the protests. These leaders (there can be one or two in each area)dedicate work closely with ASA/protests organizers to communicating and coordinate their neighborhoods/areas. When people have assignments/responsibilities they're willing to step up and volunteer. When they have no activity or specific involvement they're not as committed. Any other positive brainstorming ideas that can benefit the April 26 protest at the federal building on Wilshire near Westwood? Last edited by Herbalicious; 03-27-2008 at 11:34 AM.. |
