Rep Power: 0 | Barbara Boxer to Support Medical Marijuana Bill! Last week i wrote all my state senators (including Pelosi) about the LA raids. Today I received this reply from Barbara Boxers office. I think the uproar we made had an effect! Thank you for writing to me about medical marijuana. I appreciate hearing from you. As you may know, the United States Supreme Court has upheld federal drug laws that ban any use of marijuana, including for medical purposes. This ruling directly contradicts California = s Compassionate Use Initiative as well as laws from other states that allow for legal use of marijuana under medical supervision. The House of Representatives is now considering the States' Rights to Medical Marijuana Act, H.R.2087. If passed, this bill would allow states to legalize the use of medicinal marijuana without federal interference. I feel this legislation is appropriate as long as it includes a provision that there must be a doctor = s approval. Again, thank you for taking the time to write me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again on this or any other issue that concerns you. |

Rep Power: 5910 | I do belive H.R.2087 is old news and has already been defeated. Do a google search. Here is what I got 109th U.S. Congress (2005-2006) H.R. 2087 [109th]: States' Rights to Medical Marijuana Act To provide for the medical use of marijuana in accordance with the laws of the various States. Go to... Bill Status Summary Other Info Status: Introduced This bill was proposed in a previous session of Congress. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven't passed are cleared from the books. This bill never became law. from http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h109-2087 |

Rep Power: 6575 | Re: Barbara Boxer to Support Medical Marijuana Bill! Yeah, the bill was introduced during the 2005-2006 session and was NOT passed (obviously) - this is the same billed mentioned from early 2005 in another thread on Speaker Pelosi. I would write her back and ask how the house can be considering a bill that was cleared from the books since didn't pass during the congress session in which it was introduced, and follow up with asking what new legislation she's working on implementing to bring the issue back up during THIS session of congress to finally protect the rights of her Californian constituents. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Barbara Boxer to Support Medical Marijuana Bill! thats what i thought. maybe she is just saying she will support it if its introduced. or maybe its a bunch of hot air. the point is, now that Boxer is on board, we need to keep pushing her and everyone else since they are on our side. |

Rep Power: 12 | Re: Barbara Boxer to Support Medical Marijuana Bill! I believe Boxer and Feinstein are both on record in support of mmj. The Truth in Trials Act picks up a few votes every time it reaches the floor, but we're still a ways off on the numbers we need. I think the best bet for winning through an act of Congress is to lean hard on Pelosi - there's probably no better avenue unless we can get '08 presidential candidates on record as to their stance on mmj. So call Pelosi, email Pelosi, fax Pelosi, then come back to WT and tell us you did it. Create our own momentum and don't let up; 80% of this country backs access to medical cannabis which means we're not the underdogs in this struggle. mcrc |

Rep Power: 370 | Re: Barbara Boxer to Support Medical Marijuana Bill! Boxer has unfortunately been sending this same exact letter to patients for years. Several dozen advocates have sent me this response. While Boxer does seem to be more supportive than Feinstein, she still should be pushed. I encourage everyone to consider setting up meetings with Boxer's district offices to ask her to introduce legislation or at least to push for hearings on medical cannabis. Remember that she represents YOU - staffers in her district offices are very unlikely to turn a meeting down.
