Support The Karma Collective! We'll be at the Van Nuys PD at noon. Think Erwin St & Van Nuys Blvd. adjacent.

This early morning finds us upon the brink of moving from protest preparation to protest mobilization regarding the LAPD's actions against The Karma Collective. The most important thing I wish for the good folks here (and at large) to know is that taking up the fight for edibles is imperative. As such, you will see that many of our posters and slogans are adorned withn ice cream cones and cookies.

This is not about the DEA going away, this is about all of us standing up for one particular method of medication delivery under fire by our local authorities, supposedly sworn to serve and protect.
It is valid, it is necessary and as I believe a dear friend of ours has said,

"MAKE NO MISTAKE, WE'LL STILL BAKE".

We're going to be bringing non-medicated edibles purchased from various local establishments - heaven forbid a brownie puts a smile on someone's face.

Long live the spirit of Brownie Mary and long live cupcakes.
Here's to seeing you at high noon at the Van Nuys police station. Please remember that discretion and decorum are very important!

Let them eat cake and we'll be seeing you!

Lou Weed says..

"You don't win wars by dying for your beliefs, but by making other bastards die for theirs."

Re: 4/30/07: High Noon, Van Nuys PD, Karma Collective

Hello All,

Well, my thoughts are collecting, the bong is bubbling and the keyboard is hummin'. I have recently returned from the demonstration, what a day!

Those who know me know that I have a long history as a civil rights activist and anti-war activist. The last demo I went to before today was 1971, and I went to jail. The outrageous actions of LAPD will not go unnoticed.

On that topic, I will be off line for a few hours, as I am co-writing an article about this despicable crap. Without going into details, it seems very likely that LAPD committed at least one civil rights violation during the raid, making it a violation under the color of authority, a federal offense. (Ironic, huh? The Feds might have no choice but to be on our side :slaugh: )

Anyone who was there and wants to share your experience with me please feel free to PM me, and we will make arrangements. Please do not post your comments on WT if you want them used. We will under no circumstances quote ANY posting from WT. It's against the rules, and we will not knowingly violate said rules. We ask that all WTers do the same. This issue has a lot of people riled up, and my goal is to put pressure on LAPD through the media. We will, however not cut corners, and we will do it right.

Once I get the heavy lifting done, so to speak, I will post again with my impressions and pictures of today's protest. I could take up two pages just listing the folks I met. All I can say is that I am so proud of my brothers and sisters who took the time to go, and to all those who couldn't make it, we missed you, but we know you were with us in spirit.

The time has come that acts of civil disobedience may be required. I suggest that everyone read up on Ghandi, Dr. M. L. King, Jr, and the Dali Lama and their thoughts on non-violent civil disobedience. Search your heart, and if you feel that this is the way you need to go, please PM me. I have engaged in such acts to the point of arrest and conviction, and would like to counsult with you and make sure you stay safe. There is a right way to disobey and a way that will get you beat up. I want all my brothers and sisters to choose the former. I do not wish to further discuss such matters on a public forum, so please contact me privately.

Stay strong, folks. We are closer than you think to winning the fight.

Peaceful Disobedience,
'bug

PS: Thanks to Kev, Stas, and all the staff at NNCC for opening up early for us and for all the love and good vibes. You guys are real cannabis warriors...

I saw you there, and I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say hello in all the hubub. I was the guy with the gray and black dragon shirt and chrome shades. If you would like to possibly quoted in an article in a national publication, please PM me (If you want to be quoted, please do NOT post your remarks on WT. We will not quote any posting from WT. Re: 4/30/07: High Noon, Van Nuys PD, Karma Collective

OK, guys, I have turned the first piece over to my editor. I have also been given the greenlight by my publisher for a SERIES of articles, to be published in Mondo Cult magazine (www.mondocult.com). The magazine is internationally distributed in print and is online as well. Look for the first article tomorrow on the site. The publisher is one of the heavies in the Libertarian Party, and he has committed to telling the story of our movement from our perspective. Mondo Cult has decided to get involved in the MMJ movement, and will be publishing articles from folks in our community on things like the politics of genetics, freedom of information and patients rights, as well a grass-roots view () of our movement, beginning with this article.

I have already been in contact with numerous of you, and we'll start that end of things in a day or two. The first article, meant to be picked up (hopefully) by larger outlets, will post tomorrow (again hopefully), to be followed every couple of days by a new one, sort of a "voices of the movement" type thing, except I don't intend to identify anyone in any way they could be recognized by LEOs, except for the principles inolved directly with the TKC incident, with the consent and participation of their attorneys, which will be the subject of an article by itself.

We CAN tell our story, and believe me, the public wants to hear it. We can let people know that we are not a joke. Right now, all the news outlets are all over May Day demonstrations (100,000+ in LA), and so is covering that. I plan to counteract that. May Day will be over in 48 hours, but we will still be here.

So take heart, my brothers and sisters, and if you want to weigh in, hit me with a PM if you want to participate. I cannot promise miracles, but I promise to do the best I can to present our community for what it is, some of the kindest, smartest people it has ever been my pleasure to meet. If you think I am missing something, please tell me. I am a big believer in the truth setting folks free, and that's what I want to tell.

The prize is within reach. When people are serious enough about something to volunteer to be arrested (and several have), you are closer to the turning point than you know. I encourage all to check out the Dali Lama's writings on Nonviolent Civil Disobedience, as well as those of Dr. M. L. King, Jr.

Peace and Freedom,
'bug

I really dont want to demean your actions, as it seems you are quite passionate about this subject.

However, it seems that articles coming from a news source such as " Mondo Cult " which it concludes breaking news as "The Van Nuys Massacree"; a movie by the World’s First Blind Director Begins Principle Photography in April...

It is great that you are willing to write your opinions publicly but it seems that publishing them in such said magazine may look "unprofessional" to outside viewers. Not to mention this is first time hearing of such said publishing. About how many readers are you bringing in per month?

I know it is outside your area, but the news is related. I know a person in with the local paper in our area (san diego), nothing huge, but it has a delivery of nearly 100,000 papers per day, so there must be some reader base to it. If you want we may be able to bring your articles to another source, so that they are subject tp a wider-spread audience.

Let me know what you think..

First off, let me explain why that article went in Mondo. MC is a magazine of pupular culture, and my editor wrote an intro that explains in detail why they chose to publish not only this article, but an entire series on the MMJ patient's struggle against repressive harrassment by rogue LEOs. MC is published by Brad Linaweaver, a Libertarian Party heavyweight, friend of Dennis Kucinich, and longtime supporter of Cannabis Legalization. He has kindly offered me the forum to cover our movement from the patient's side. (Note I did NOT say, "the co-op's side", since ALL involved in a co-op are, by definition, patients)

By all means, if you have a way to place this story in a major local paper, feel free. Our interest is in getting the story of LAPD's wilful disregard for state law and the civil rights of patients in Van Nuys out to the public at large, who still think patients are nothing but a bunch of shady stoners working the system. I for one have had quite enough of that.

At this point, I don't know where the story will lead, but Brad has greenlighted me to follow the evidence trail as far as it will go. It may even go as high as Chief Bratton...

I want to bring the voices of the patients to a public who have been consistently misinformed by the mainstream media. Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated, and credited if the person wishes. We are all in this together, wether some like it or not, and we CAN make things change if we stick together.

Peace and Freedom,
'bug

"If we don't hang together, we shall all hang separately." Ben Franklin, 1775

PS: If you PM me, I will give you my contact info-thanks.

Re: 4/30/07: High Noon, Van Nuys PD, Karma Collective

BTW, I was arrested at San Diego State, where I was a student, in 1971 for organizing the takeover of the Business Administration building, something I am sure you either know about or will hear about if you ask anyone who was in SD at the time. I am also the former lead singer of the band "DC Blues".

Love,

Oh, yeah, and who said politics have to be SERIOUS? Some of the stuff that went down in that action was HILARIOUS, but we didn't say too much for fear of being percieved as clowns, and hurting the movement. I don't think this is an issue here, as everyone I have met on WT seems to have a sense of humor.

As for the title, that was mine-a reference to an Arlo Guthrie song "Alice's Restaurant Massacree", in which the Sherriff is portrayed as a buffoon. My view is that the LAPD is just as inept, and could provide some comic relief to this mess.
