Which Meds are best for PTSD?

I have been trying ALOT of meds lately to try and figure out which ones are best for PTSD. I have a case of PTSD which affects my driving ability, going outside, nightmares, plus loud noises like sonic booms or gunfire makes me shake violently. I Cant think of certain things or else I will start to get scared. I'm looking into heavy Indicas to releave some of these issues. If you have any info on this please share. Much Love

I had that too but it's seemed to go away. Mine wasn't from daily average noises that made me flash back, it was just one incident I kept reliving over and over in my mind. Took years to get over it. I smoke any good kind of strain - so long as it's plenty powerful. I really like hash to smoke best of all - it usually puts me in a calm relaxed mood so I can be happy and get some sleep. I admit, I also took(take) Zoloft and Xanax to deal with it. GOod luck to you. It can end (depending on what you're thinking about) it just takes a long time.

Edibles and strong concentrates work best for shell-shock. What gets me is squeaking, cracks, pops, slams, and thuds -- all noises I heard during my traumas. Smoke works best for most days, but edibles every night. But, on those days where the symptoms exceed my capacity, I'll toke up a strong concentrate and eat an edible. You're fighting an adrenaline rush and adrenaline is potent. But, THC is more potent than adrenaline, THC always wins over my symptoms, always.

Re: Which Meds are best for PTSD?

When I'm going to sleep and wake my ptsd is the worst . So I use a heavy strain that knocks me out . During the day time I use the same strain as needed and I'm much calmer .

My symptoms of ptsd are similar to yours, mine triggers in large groups when things get loud and rauckus, i have found that g13 is a great strain for getting my focus straight, or mr. nice if avail. Also i stay away from pure sativas when i know ahead of time its going to be loud and busy. concerts, clubs etc. I find that the blackberry going around is a great bedtime transitional herb to utilize without feeling like you are going to bed wasted, that is when my nightmares seem to occur more often, hope this helps. I am using both Louie 13th and SkyWalker....... I suffer too from both daytime thoughts and nightmares while sleeping... Top of the Strain Chain always, and usually a top OG....... Sativas don't shut down those things in the mind as well and make you paranoid. Always stick with the Top Indica hybids....
The Skywalker is great for day and both or Louie 13 at night...
They are top shelf and expensive... But you get more Bang for your $ and use less to do it...

Re: Which Meds are best for PTSD?

Sorry not trying to Hijack the thread but I posted this under pain management and maybe this is where it should have been. If not sorry for the hijack.

Hello all!

I am hopeing someone can give me some advice and tell me about some collectives that may work for me. I'm new to all of this and havent been to a collective yet. I got hurt in Iraq and am a parapalegic with severe PTSD and Insomnia. I'm on social security and because of my conditions its hard for me to get out of the house. I live in the San Bernardino Mtns and it may snow within the next month or so. I want to get stocked up without getting ripped off. I have been reading all I can on these subjects, color, cureing, dryness strains son on and so forth but would like help as I am willing to travel to get the best deal. I plan on buying a good amount. To get to the reason I started cannabis, I have been on fentynal, percocet and valium along with other drugs for a few years now. I went to the hospital as a inpatient for a nerve flairup and they did a blood test and ultrasound and the meds were starting to show sighns of beginning stages of cirrosis of the liver. My friend said I should try cannabis and I did! It worked really well and I didnt need to take my PTSD/Depression meds cannabis worked better. For pain I still needed some of the synthetic along with the cannabis but it cut it in half. So cannabis is giving me quality of life and my liver is looking better! So my question could you all give suggestion's for where I should go? I'm not looking for free stuff but I need quality and dodnt really know what quality looks and smells like. I am on a fixed income and the place needs to be wheelchair accesible. Like I said I dont get out of the house much so I plan on buying possibly a QP but throwing out that kinda cash I'm kinda worried about getting ripped off. The more I read this site the more places I see getting bashed. So if anyone could recommend a honest place for a severly disabled vet to go I would appreciate it. I'm not looking for a handout just some honesty! Thank you all for your time and reply's

Dear "whoa" ~ "hoo-rah" ;=) I FEEL you much much.
Docs get ya' to slide by on all that Drug Store Cowboy Courage and then don't hesitate to toss you into a wicked variety of withdrawals which make our original issues WORSE. (yikes!) Yes Mr. Ph.D's, M.D.'s et al; tolerance to the large pharm you write us DOES occur.

It FLOORS me how so many people do not believe in, nor understand the living hell of living with PSTD. Our demons are all too real and in my case, all the counseling in the world and so on have not done much at all....as when a trigger brings it on, the saying that time heals all things is a HUGE farce to say the least.

The fine print on some meds prescribed and tried a few years back "forgot" to tell me of the ulcers and stomach torture or the "hi risk of suicidal tendancies" they would cause... this is why health.com is a friend to me now as 15 years of this in my life was crying out for personal knowledge vs. MD Dictation alone.

You being HERE is clear, you seek more self control of your life. I can promise that my efforts of over a decade accordingly have been well worth all my time and effort. (kudos 2 U n keep it up !)

From one PSTD human to another....you are NOT alone.....you keep at it.........find what works for you to have QUALITY in life.

(So what; I am mostly house bound, for my PSTD and some more, the web is a wealth of info and venues for self empowerment, support, education and believe it or not, making a few dollars)

Be way chill in the SB Mountains; a place where I find GREAT solace. The average folks up the Mountain are truly small town folks with kind hearts. However, the law "feels" like their own version of the "wild west", as the revenue from the resorts is the main income and they want "nice nice" especially during winter months.

I can say the air, the "aura" and abilities/acceptance otherwise NOT common in Cali are truly magical.

Take a peek at the CA STATE site for the Department of Health Services, all of the forms for you and more are available to look through. Medical and SSI benefits DO pay for patients and even have application and renewal waivers.
dhs.ca.gov ~ search MM FAQ's and forms.
Maybe this can help you out somehow as did for myself...

My caregiver has been remarkable in suggestions to my severe PSTD "levels", INSOMNIA=OMG, weight loss/appetite, nausea & random side effects from meds (migranes, weakness, etc).

Bless you and may you find the peace you are seeking and certainly deserve. IF you are heading to the Mountain....get going as the winter is earlier than I've seen in years. Great year to "hole up" and simply, "be". Write a book ! Everyone has a compelling story in them.....

Hope you find a caregiver as attentive and "on the j o b" as the one I finally found. Inside the past 6 months, I've cut my meds down est. 30-50% and honestly have something called "faith" that there is much more "living" for me to do. My Med Docs ARE puzzled and this pleases me much.

Good luck;=)

Re: Which Meds are best for PTSD?

In terms of strains, in my experience, I think the purples work best for PTSD.
Anything from that purple family - querkle, purple kush, grandaddy purple, grape ape, etc.

I try to switch it up a little so I don't get too used to a particular strain.

Any sativas seem to aggravate my ptsd and make it worse.

i would recommend any O.G. or a hybrid indica dominant. I usually get my medicine at trc because they won't rip you off
