Rep Power: 10 | I have no idea if this is in the right area but here goes... I suffer from not just IBS and anxiety/depression but something known as hypervigilance (rapidly jerking to block when a sudden unexpected move comes from another in your vicinity). Its usually a result of surviving physical trauma like child abuse in my case. MMJ is a big help in keeping it to a minimum and reducing the severity of the episodes. Does anybody else suffer from this and does mmj help? Oh and is this under the right thread? Hope So |

| Re: Hypervigilance and MMJ Please don't say that. Please try to separate yourself from your illness. The fact that you are functional despite whatever awful things you went through shows that you are definitely not a coward. Psychological scars do not indicate a deficiency of character. big |

Rep Power: 0 | I read a few cannabibles and one of them had a strain called "Mystery". The grower created the cross for those types of symptoms. He said nothing else worked. Mystery is Super Silver Haze crossed with Thai Haze. It is an extremely potent medication and works extremely well for the symptoms you described. When it is around and I have it, I feel best. When it is not around, I can compensate with other weeds but nothing comes close to how this particular cross works for those types of symptoms. I have not seen it for a while. Give it a try and please let me know if you locate the strain. |

Rep Power: 10 | Thank you all for sharing, it means alot. I rarely talk about, let alone explore this issue. I didn't even know if I was posting this in the right place; we're all posting in the right place about the right thing Its not the result of being a coward, its the result of surviving some kind of violent trauma. I was having a rare meeting with a therapist when something triggered it as we were walking to his office (something like an unexpected nurse flinging a file near my face LOL sudden behavior appeared to signal hypervigilance to him on our first of the only three appoinments I ever saw him. Needless to say he was able to conclude the diagnosis within these visits. I wish all of you strength and encourage you to heal through sharing and exploring this issue on this thread Last edited by jahjuice; 06-29-2008 at 02:01 AM.. |

Rep Power: 10 | wow greenspan, I just realised what that "Mystery" strain is. SUPER-sILVER hAZE seems to deal with the above mentioned symptoms very well and takes care of my IBS. I can find myself in a very panicky state, when I'm flinching at the neighbors chiwahwha and all sometimes you know pm me if you want to share the retailer if its against the rules to post openly Mystery is now definitly on my list of samplers. Thanks for the info. Last edited by jahjuice; 08-02-2008 at 03:35 PM.. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hypervigilance and MMJ Hi- there is definitely evidence that indicates mmj may be useful with hypervigilance & other symptoms of ptsd. there are a number of reasons for this including that we have several natural endocannabinoid systems within our bodies which are important for a wide variety of functions - from appetite to controlling aversive memories and affecting the hormone axis which is amped up by the experience of stress, mj is also connected with one of the neurotransmitters often associated with anxiety disorders and there is also a theory that there is a centralized deficit in the endocannabinoid system which is common in depression, possibly bipolar & anxiety, the system is also important in regulating pain perception and so is potentially implicated in fibromyalgia, immune system function as seen in m.s and seems to have an ability to protect certain areas of the brain damaged in parkinsons & alzheimers. there are several studies & new medications being developed based on the effects of the endocannabinoid system. If you are interested I would recommend looking at NORML, they have a great library, check out the IOM study, americans for safe access or check out their links. |

Rep Power: 10 | Hey all, havn't posted in a bit. After getting my rec I stopped all other non herbal meds except one. Just stopped that one like a month ago or something. Its been really hard (synthetic opiate pill). Dr. warned me that it would be hell and to give it like ANOTHER YEAR OR SO, HAA! Was turning me into... A DIFFERENT PERSON FOR THE WORSE Got no family or close friends to confide in, its been really hard Over the worst part of it though. Lately been finding myself extremely hypervigilant come night fall. Anything that reminds me of my old family life sort of sends me into it, hardcore; worst stuff happened at night when people were home. I find myself jumping out of bed and ready to run or god knows what if a siren goes by or what have you. Havn't had the cash to stay as medicated as usual. Been growing my own shitty kief though. I'm like jumping out of bed at 3 in the morning and SCARED WITH HEART PUMPING, PARANOID AS FUCK..... THERE COMING TO GET ME! My mother was a CORRUPT ASS COP (SHERIFE), actually fired by a shady department for being TOO FUCKING SHADY, and that had nothing to do with beating and terrorising my elementry school aged ass, though it was documented by my school. I'm 21 and MAN, THOUGHT IT WAS 10 YEARS BEHIND ME! I havn't been this bad since I last lived with the BITCH OVER 8 YEARS AGO. The worst part is I don't have any idea what I'm doing til I'm way into it when this happens. I don't know if I'm ready to run out the door naked and paranoid or what, seems like thats the general direction though, cause I kinda come to by the front door |

Rep Power: 538 | First, I'd suggest something that may sound bizarre, but after you think about it, will make sense: See if you can attend a PTSD meeting with War Veterans. The reason being, what you are suffering, is just about text book what they went through, and it would most likely make you feel instantly better! War Veterans are now your age, and older. Next, I'd suggest you sign up for State Aid, for Anti-anxiety or something, to help you until therapy gives you COPING mechanisms. Third, go to the local public library, and check out a book on dealing with PTSD, and the crippling anxiety that can often accompany it. My family was pretty bizarre, I've spent a lot of time in therapy myself. Only over the past month am I finally NOT jumping every time I hear a siren, and able to just sleep through the night (for the most part). My heart goes out to you. Anyway, the above are just my suggestions, similar to what I've done, for what it's worth. I've been an insomniac most of my life, and used to construct a dummy of myself as a child, so people would abuse it instead of me - just so I could sleep through the night, under the bed. Mostly verbal abuse & hitting, about things not being cleaned perfectly, etc. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hypervigilance and MMJ I also use mmj to medicate ptsd. went through 20 years of severe abuse every kind by my parents. I've been on over 15 different prescription meds for it. And mmj is the only thing that seems to work. It helps immensely when i'm having a flashback or having rage issues. The best way I can describe it is that it suddenly feels like the room has windows, and i can breathe again. Obviously therapy is helpful as well. So far my favorite strains have been Cali Orange Bud (not too strong but a pleasant feeling of well being) and various indicas especially og kush. afgooey seemed to help with depression but not so much with anxiety. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hypervigilance and MMJ My thanks to everyone for sharing! I too suffer from hypervigilance, but now it is intermitent. I generally cope by isolating. If no one comes to my home, then they can not become a threat. If I do not go out into the world, then I am unlikely to experience any threats from others. I only go out to get groceries, attend VA support groups, make medical appointments, and get my MMJ. I am starting to feel calm enough with the Sativa's during the day and Indica's at night/bed time. I am hoping to get to a MNG soon and start to expand my horizons again. Again, thanks for sharing!!! jlw |
