Rep Power: 127208 | Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! Patriot Games: GOP Reps Pick Tea Party Rally Over National-Security Votes | TPMMuckraker It seems yesterday instead of voting or amending some important legislation, several Republican members of the Judiciary Committee choose instead to pose for the cameras and participate in an Astroturf "press conference" complete with hate signs and untruthfull speakers. If any of these lawmakers represented me I would be pissed, even if I agreed with the protesters sentiments. It's a free country and people are allowed to lie and distort at rallies, but for sitting members of Congress to participate in this and ditch actual work is quite freaky. |

Rep Power: 113264 | Re: Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! I gotta say the Republicans placating the tea baggers makes absolutely zero sense to me. I mean, you'd think they'd have learned the lesson from the NY house election. These people do not represent an electoral majority, so courting them seems like a truly bizzare strategy. |

Rep Power: 169 | Re: Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! What worse is all the democrats who will vote for the health care debacle without reading it. And Pelosi will NOT post online so no one can view it. The American people will be screwed again. Hey bratton....was that the Boxer meeting....the same meeting the dems condemned her for holding. Typical liberal banter |

Rep Power: 127208 | Re: Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! LOL Gee I wonder why Pelosi would do that with all the honest debate coming from your well-funded side!!! You see, there is a price to pay when one side puts out complete bullshit, we all end up suffering. You Rethugs have hijacked any honest discourse over healthcare, and now you are crying like little babies when a price has to be paid. It's truly freaky that anyone would defend health insurance companies, you should look in the mirror and contemplate that! |

Rep Power: 113264 | Re: Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! If you think a bill that amounts to a massive overhaul of a nationwide industry is gonna be 10 pages long, then I'm forced to conclude that you're extremely ignorant of the legislative process. In reality, members of Congress rarely read any legislation in its entirety. That's why they have huge staffs. Their staffers read the bill and highlight the important stuff. Then they prepare briefs for the Congressman/woman to read. Duh. |

Rep Power: 169 | Re: Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! SPIN SPIN SPIN IT ALL YOU WANT This is just the start of democrats trying to control our lives. wake up followers aka democrats. PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail Washington, Nov 6 - Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years. In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.” Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below: “H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1] - - - - - - - - - - “If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2] - - - - - - - - - - “Criminal penalties Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual: • Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year. • Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3] When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail. “The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp. According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016. |

Rep Power: 42766 | Re: Lets Have A Tea Party Instead Of Working! Important? Read my new post. How about the cost to the person who has insurance now and what it will cost if this "piece of shit" bill passes both houses? What is wrong with just paying for health care insurance for those who don't have it? Change some laws about preexisting conditions? That fixes it, no problem. And it won't cost us TRILLIONS!!!!!!!!! But, I have a feeling that some of you want the government to have their paws all over it. You must need a nanny? |
