Think Progress Franken Wins Bipartisan Support For Legislation Reining In KBR?s Treatment Of Rape

Sen. Franken of Minnesota proposed an amendment that would give anyone the right to a court trial for sexual assault. It seems that a young lady was gang raped and kidnapped while working for Haliburton in Iraq. Her contract actually stipulated that she was not entitled to go toregular court, and that it would be handled privately. Why the hell would Haliburton place that in a contract and why the hell would anyone be opposed to rapists getting justice? What a shame that some lawmakers are so up corporate Americas ass that they would deny rape victims due process. This is disgusting!!!

Why would John McCain vote against this??? We are lucky he lost... Anyone who would choose loyalty to a corporation over a sexual assault victim needs to find another line of work.

I had heard a blurb about this. How do these folks sleep at night? I might hate my job but at least I don't screw people over. Pathetic...

McCain's so butt hurt over losing the election that he's lost his capacity for reason. Did ya happen to hear what he did at a Hispanic voters rally in Arizona shortly after the election? He stood in front of the podium, scowling, and said, "You people made your choice in the election." It was that kinda talk that made me think he was never more than a party hack all along. He just thought he could garner support by cynically manipulating the electorate on certain hot button issues.

Franken's amendment ended up passing, 68-30. Here's a list of the Senators who showed broad support for Roman Polanski by voting against it:

I think they have insomnia worse than any of us, and prescriptions to stronger medicines....

Has anyone seen those pictures comparing newly elected politicians and then again after 3-4 years? The one's of Presidents made some headlines few years ago. Those guys age severely while in office....it is stressful being a two-faced liar, oops, I mean playing the political game, all day.

I'm glad that the bill passed, but wonder, ......The men who voted against the bill, I wonder what their wives, sisters, mothers, etc. thought about that? I wonder if they are the way they are because their family allows it. For instance, if I did something like that, my Mom, sister and niece would beat the living **** out of me. If I told them I had to because I owed someone a favor, they would get baseball bats.... If I told them it was because I was returning a favor, they would put nails in the bats.... So I wonder what repercussions these people face from family, I would guess none...I would guess their family doesn't "intervene" in work....

Republicans point out that the amendment was opposed by a host of business interests, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and applies to a wide range of companies, including IBM and Boeing.

“This misleading, partisan attack makes clear yet again just how out of touch Democrats in Washington are with the serious issues facing average Americans," said National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Brian Walsh.

"Our country is facing rising unemployment, a record federal debt and and more government spending than at any point in history. Yet, the Democrats are talking about Halliburton."

Partisan attack?????? An amendment to protect citizens against RAPE is a "partisan attack"? I guess it's only OK to focus on groups like ACORN because they register Democrats to vote. The Republican Party is tumbling down the abyss...
