Rep Power: 60286 | I've been putting dogs from a local shelter onto the site www.petfinder.com, now, for over a year. I also put horses, pigs, goats, on the site...They have cats, too...They are nation wide in the U.S.A. and you can look up many types of animals and breeds, then do a search for the closest adoption location by your zipcode...It's easy to use and you can find so very many animals, there. It's really worth checking into, if you are looking for a pet. www.petfinder.com |

Rep Power: 4506 | i'm looking for an english bulldog puppy for my kids but can not afford to pay 1,200-1,500 bucks for one. so i was wondering if anybody could maybe help me out and maybe donate one to my kids. the pup would go to a loving family of 5, two girls/one boy, mom and dad! the puppy would have lots of running around room in the front and back yards. the reason why i'm asking for a bulldog is because my kids love meaty and beefy from rob and big/fantasy factory and won't stop asking for one. well thanks for taking the time to read my post! have a good one. one love nicole |

Rep Power: 60286 | Re: Petfinder Have you tried www.petfinder.com ? You can look up dogs at your local shelter and adoption places by your zipcode and you can even type in the breed you want...I put 25-30 dogs onto petfinder every week. The Humane Society I work with has about 400 dogs! There are so very many available and some are reasonably priced. Also, All dogs at the Ramona Humane Society are just 50 bucks for the month of October. On October 17, we hold a fun get together fair like thing we call Oktoberfest and sell all dogs and cats for just 25 bucks on that day only! It's in San Jacinto, CA...PM me for more details, if you're interested... Good luck to you! |

Rep Power: 146930 | Re: Petfinder Definitely check out Petfinder, run the search area large enough to include San Diego, there is a very reputable English Bulldog rescue in SD, bet they could help you find a puppy. Do some research first though, $2000 for an English Bulldog might seem expensive, but it is cheap, the real expense come from the vet bills.....Pure bread bullies tend to have health issues, just the short wide muzzle can cause very serious (like the dog dies if he eats too fast and you don't catch the problem in under a half hour.) issues like bloat, Bullies also tend to have a mind of their own....lot's of fun but a lot of work too...the puppies especially love to throw temper tantrum's when they don't like something...Bullies are not really recommended for first time owners, they require a very strong owner who is also very gentle and loving...People forget PitBulls were created by cross breeding with a bulldog, because Bulldogs were absolutely unbeatable as fighting dogs. Did you know thier name comes from what they were used for? Originally they were used for bull baiting. A field, a pissed off bull, and a couple bulldogs, people would bet on who would win. After that the dogs were used for bear baiting, same idea but a 500lb black or brown bear, then after that came dog fighting...of which, in England, Bulldogs were the kings even after pitulls entered the scene. Staffordshire Terriers, PitBulls and Bulldogs were the most popular fighting breeds, Bulldogs were the winningest. Today's Bulldogs are not as strong due to years of inbreeding and unethical breeders, but they nonetheless still have those same instincts, and until they get older and settle down Bullies are always looking to get into trouble, and they are smart enough to know if you cant see them do it, you ain't gonna know what they did.........lots of fun, but nothing like a Labrador.... Oh, and I have had enough different puppies now to honestly say, people complain about pitbull puppies chewing and destroying things...HA! Try a healthy, strong bulldog....I have watched my guy snap a cow's femur bone in half while chewing....before I caught him, when he was 6 months old, he chewed through the legs of my desk chair, the legs were metal....no joke...of course my guy has a lot of Mastiff in him also... Then there is the gas and the belching.....and the bottomless stomach.....never had a dog eat so much.....and chew toys are not made for bullldogs..."hours of fun" means three chomps and it is gone..... Oh yeah and lastly, I love my bulldog the mostest! It is just good to know what you are getting into.... Last edited by cephas; 09-29-2009 at 03:33 PM.. |

Rep Power: 4506 | i have checked out petfinder.com and have looked up the prices of these dogs and it seems that they range from 1,200 - 2,500 but in all reality i can't afford to pay that for a pup, so i was hoping that somebody out of the kindness of their heart would help me out and donate one. i can afford the food/toys ect. we also have a vet in the family so the pup would have up-to-date cheeck ups/shots. thanks again! one love |

Rep Power: 60286 | Re: Petfinder Whew! I had no idea that a dog would cost so dang much! I thought there may be some affordable ones for you. Sorry...I tried...There's still the Oktoberfest on the 17th, but it's in Riverside area...Dogs are just 25 bucks that day and all the month of October they are just 50 dollars at the Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto...All dogs are just 50! I hope you find that special dog, somewhere! I just went to petfinder.com and found an English Bulldog for 75 dollars in Norco...Maybe check the surrounding areas.. They are way cheaper out here! Maybe someone out there will donate you one. I hope so. Good Luck and Take Care. I wish you the best. Last edited by EarthMama; 09-29-2009 at 04:33 PM.. |

Rep Power: 146930 | Re: Petfinder It's more than check ups and shots with an English Bulldog. Part of the reason the pups are so expensive is the Mom must be artificially inseminated, they are so inbred and unhealthy as a breed they are not basically not capable of getting pregnant naturally. Then they must give birth via c-section...then the pups normally have to be hand fed, and be watched 24/7 for the first couple months, because the mom cannot always feed them or care for them.... When the weather is over 80 degrees they are in serious danger of heat stroke, as the short muzzle and horrible nasal passages do not allow them to cool properly. Keep a bowl of water with ice in it around at all times on a hot day. When they eat, because of the wonderful overbite, they make a huge mess and swallow more air than food if fed from the wrong type of bowl, or not fed often enough, which leads to bloat. bloat causes the dogs stomach to fill with air and twist, blocking off organs, and killing the dog painfully in less than an hour. Exercising a bulldog too soon after eating can lead to bloat also. Then there are the hereditary joint problems, eye sight problems, cancer issues, allergies and severe digestion problems....my guy has gone to a specialist 5 times in the last two years, he is two years old BTW....Pet insurance covers 80%, but it is still very time consuming and expensive and the insurance only reimburses you, you still have to pay and wait for the refund. They also tend to have shorter life spans than most dog breeds. Again not trying to talk you out of it, just want you to understand, a bully is significantly more work than most any other dog breed. They will reward you for it endlessly with unreal amounts of loyalty, and love; and they are always ready to provide a good laugh when you need it. If you really want a pure bred bulldog, go talk to the clubs, go to the shows, maybe you will meet someone who is more interested in giving their pup's a good home then re-cooping costs or making money. If you can take a bulldog mix (smarter and easier to care for, longer lived and healthier in general) it will be a lot easier to find what you are looking for. Another option is a bull terrier, you know like "Spuds McKenzie"....far cheaper and healthier, still small and thick.... |
