Talking Need Taranchula info

Hi. I have a 8 year old female Taranchula that seems way over due on her shedding...Does anyone know how often they shed their skeleton's ? I thought it was every 6 months...I could look it up online, in the meantime, but I thought this might be a fun discussion for those that have these kind of pets and thought someone could enlighten me with their knowledge. Thanks so much and Have a Great Day!

How funny! I know, the skeleton looks like an entirely seperate taranchula. That would be so funny to think there was two, all of the sudden. lol

How strange. I was just reminiscing about my pet tarantula I had as a teenager at about 3 pm today.I used to draw pen and ink drawings of it because drawings of tarantulas are pretty awesome to me!

Re: Need Taranchula info

So, the answer I got was, taranchula's maybe only shed once a year...OK...Maybe she's OK, then...She still hasn't shed. I'll give her a few more months...Then, if she doesn't, maybe I'll take out the crickets (she eats them) because they may be effecting her cycle, too, if she's too stressed or something...Thanks for all your answers, everybody!

Re: Need Taranchula info

You are a brave soul to have a spider! I babysat this little boy once and I walked into his room and there were four of them crawling around! I nearly jumped out of my skin, but I know how it is to love a pet, so I hope that she will be okay!

Re: Need Taranchula info

I had a tarantula when I was a kid. I think it shed twice in the couple of years I had him, or her....I called it Herby The first time it shed it hid under its log, so I only saw what I thought was a dead spider. I was sad until I found him chillin under the log!

if she's an older tarantula it may be even more than a year. you need to keep the crickets separate except to feed her, 'cause if she's not hungry they'll stress her out, but she needs to eat in order to outgrow her skin :) And also, mist the cage once in a while since she needs higher humidity when she gets ready to shed. I remember one of the ones we had when I was a kid used to spin a web she could lie on before she shed, we knew when there was suddenly a little woven "bed" there that she would shed soon.

Whats your girl's name?

Thanks for the info. I needed that. I think the crickets are stressing her. I'll remove them and mist her...
I haven't named her...figured she wouldn't come when I called her, anyway. She's just my littler fur ball. :-)

Big spiders like Tarachulas, black widows and wolf spiders scare the fuck out of me and when Im stoned it seems to make my fear of big spiders more intense for some reason.

What species is she?

My brother had a pink toe, a red knee (he raised it from a tiny hatchling the size of a punctuation mark and now over 10 yrs later it's the size of half a dinner plate) , and rose-haired, and another one that was really mean. don't know what kind it was but it was really aggressive.

When I was in college I kept a couple of whip spiders because my professor's friend was breeding them, so everyone in the class got a couple to raise. I accidentally killed them when I took them home for winter break and it got too cold during transport :( Those were cool though.

That's so neat to have a small spider and watch it grow up! Except for the aggressive part of that spider...Mine's a black one. Kinda smaller size. Not aggressive, at all. Not sure what kind she is...She was found around this area (Hemet) about 10 or so years back...Someone gave her to me and I've had her for around 5-6 years...I heard somewhere that the females live maybe 20 years, if I'm not mistaken...She'll probably outlive some of my other animals!
I'm sad to know about whip spiders dying on you. That's always hard to deal with...but it was nice that you had a nice experience with them...
