Re: mellow pit bulls?

What a beautiful picture of your pitbull.
The best dog I ever had was a pitbull. She was mellow, sweet, obedient, and intelligent...She also had papers, so she came from a long list of good bred pits...I miss her, deeply...

Lightbulb Re: mellow pit bulls?

Our 15 yr old dog Loco - whom I've always considered a pit - is actually an AmStaff (I was under the impression that AmStaffs were pit bulls) Anyway, he is the most sweet, docile, mellow creature I've ever known. There is not an ounce of malice in his bones. We raised him from a puppy as our pet, not as a guard dog or fighter. He has never behaved aggressively towards any human or animal in his life, as a matter of fact, he is best buddies with our two cats.

BB is 100% correct. A dog's behavior is a reflection of his owner. There's a chart at the vet's office of all different breeds of canines. And the description for the AmStaff reads: "A Brave, loyal, happy dog that is good with children."

Re: mellow pit bulls?

"The essential characteristics of the American Pit Bull Terrier are strength, confidence, and zest for life. This breed is eager to please and brimming over with enthusiasm. APBTs make excellent family companions and have always been noted for their love of children. Because most APBTs exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog. The breed’s natural agility makes it one of the most capable canine climbers so good fencing is a must for this breed. The APBT is not the best choice for a guard dog since they are extremely friendly, even with strangers. Aggressive behavior toward humans is uncharacteristic of the breed and highly undesirable. This breed does very well in performance events because of its high level of intelligence and its willingness to work"

Re: mellow pit bulls?

bully breeds play very rough.other dogs get very offended and snap at them thinking the bulldog type is fighting with them when its just playing hard.
the other dog snaps and tries to bite bulldog who may or may not finish the fight .
alot of times the bulldog type thinks the other dog who is attacking it full force is now also playing but a lil to hard but bulldog dosent freak out esp if other dog is lil they sort of pull face away as they are getting bit .ive had this happen 2x with my girl cleo and the other people pull her away while their dog is eating her face im like wtf your dog is the one biteing my dog let me get mine and you get yours LOL i dont want to get bit by their lil yapper dogs and i know shes not going to bite anyone :)

one of these pups is mine i hope its not a born killer
