Rep Power: 3166 | I have been adopted by a humming bird mommy I recently have been adopted by a humming bird who built her nest on my wind chimes and now there are 2 eggs in it. Talking about taking time to smell the roses.... This humming bird has had a very positive effect on me and my family and I wanted to share these photos |

Rep Power: 3166 | Re: I have been adopted by a humming bird mommy Quote: This has been an amazing thing to be part of. We became friends... we got to know each other. She would hover about 2 feet from my face at eye contact and I would talk to her in a soft calm voice. That went on for a a couple of days. Then she started building her nest. It took her about a week. I wish I would have started a photo journal of the building of the nest. In any event she is very cool.... even my cat is acting like a loving parent. thanks for the support and I will give updates Last edited by LocalBud; 04-23-2009 at 01:33 PM.. | |

Rep Power: 26606 | Re: I have been adopted by a humming bird mommy hummingbirds are excellent!!! so vibrant and alive. plus they help pollenate flowers. i love watching them. if you don't have any hummingbird feeders, you should set some up. don't use the crappy hummingbird food you can buy in boxes, you can make your own by boiling water and sugar (recipies online). planting flowers to attract them and as a food source are great as well! enjoy your new bird family!!! |

Rep Power: 145914 | Re: I have been adopted by a humming bird mommy Truly awesome! Try to get pic's of the babies when they come. I miss having the Blue jays nesting in the trees around my house. When I first moved in I would leave food out and I became quite the popular spot, then I realized bears like bird food too. Ever had a 500 lbs bear staring you down from the otherside of a sliding glass door? It was surprisingly unpleasant, dog's didn't seem to like it much either. Probably why you got those beautiful humming birds, they are smart enough to stay out of the mountains! |

Rep Power: 185056 | We love Humming Birds and before moving had one who nested outside our front door too. Very special to watch them grow and take wing for the first time. We still have our feeder, but no nests yet. ![]() . . . . . ![]() It isn't often we have more than one Humming Bird feeding at the same time as they are very territorial, but seeing the varieties/colors is fun |

(did have a beautiful swallow family in one of my nesting boxes though) Color me jealous. I miss attracting birds to the yard (cuz now I don't have a yard |

LocalBud, I would like to share a beautiful quote with you. Thanks for sharing with us. Hugs, Boomer |

Rep Power: 450280 | Re: I have been adopted by a humming bird mommy Just got this in my email (thank you sister friend) and had to share it. (The egg is smaller than a tic tac!--) THE BIRTH OF A HUMMINGBIRD---amazing!. Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a hummingbird nest and got pictures all the way from the egg to leaving the nest. It took 24 days from birth to flight. Because you'll probably never in your lifetime see this again, enjoy; and please share. http://community-2.webtv.net/Velpics/HUM/ |
