Good thoughts for Sophie....

I'm waiting to find out if my daughters 13 year old horse will make it through colic : (( I was told that 9 out of 10 times they don't have to be put down. Yet, all I've ever heard about colic, isn't good.

Anyone here ever experince this?

Please keep Sophie in your thoughts.....

Hi Ivy.......I used to raise Paint horses & experienced this twice. Biggest thing is not to let the animal roll. This will twist their guts & that's where the mortality % comes into play. Never had to put any of my horses down because of it. Feeding on the ground is one of the biggest reasons for colic. Sand pebbles build up in the intestines & causes a blockage. Hope everything works out for you. Best wishes.

Love and prayers for Sophie

Thank you everyone Sophie will be okay....that is exactly what happened... she had a build up of sand which he could hear in her stomach...she has a trough but she is famous for taking her hay out and then eating off the ground...so that is going to have to watched more closely. He sedated her...she has no blockage...and she did not roll. I had forgotten about rolling So a few weeks of meds and she should be fine.

Re: Good thoughts for Sophie....

That's great news Ivy. Colic in horses is a very scary situation. Glad it turned out positive. Best wishes.
