Rep Power: 60143 | Hi. I have a blind Doberman and a deaf cat...Also, one of my crows cannot fly or fend for himself...I just thought it'd be interesting to start a thread on disabled pets. My dog is shy and afraid of a leaf on the ground, poor timid, girl! But, I catch her jumping around in the backyard, like she has an imaginary friend, or something. She's funny...And it's a very good thing that this cat I rescued is deaf because I rescue and also have alot of pet birds. She can see them and has only knocked over a cage 1 time, months ago. She is the neatest cat. Doesn't bother my birds. Knows better...Sometimes she even takes over my hubbies spot on the bed, cuz she likes sleeping with me. And the crow, well...I found him in a parking lot. He was being stalked by a hawk. I snatched him up and got a huge cage for him, outback. I've tried to let him go a couple of times, thinking maybe he'd be happier (cuz he hates humans), but he just jumps around the yard, until he finds his way back to the cage...I think he's an old bird...I took in a baby crow that also didn't like humans. I couldn't get it to eat. So, I put it with my crow and he raised it, like one of his own. That baby has since grown and still visits sometimes. Aren't animals the greatest? And one's with disabilities are so reliant on us. It's responsibilty that one must be ready for...But so very rewarding. I know one thing, deaf cats are great around the birds, as long as you can get a water bottle and teach it not to stare at them! This is my first thread. I hope someone enjoys the stories and adds in a few stories of their own. Have a great day! Some of my baby birds I rescued and raised. Rep Power: 60143 | christybel, sounds like your dog has a wonderful parent, taking good care of him/her. That's wonderful. Washgirl, I know what you mean about them being so smart, she acts stupid! Some humans are that way, too. lol |

Rep Power: 17148 | Re: Animals With Disabilities my wife's cat does the jumping around thing like she see stuff, almost sketchy like, have not had the funds to take her to doctor.. we found her in the back yard almost dead, it was a runt of a wild cat that left it there to die. most of our family pets where abandoned by someone, we pulled over one day and rescued a dog from some kids kicking it, we kept it and its got a great personality, it guards the sketchy cat most of the time. i guess they both would fall under the mental disabilities area... |

Rep Power: 5379 | Re: Animals With Disabilities One of my dogs has hip displacia that caused him a great deal of pain. We opted for reconstructive hip surgery a few years back and now he's great. It was one of the cutest/saddest things in the world helping him recover. It took caring for him 100%. Poor guy even needed us holding him with a special underbelly hoist to get around and go to the bathroom. After it all though, not only do we have the bionic dog who can run and jump and play like no dog ever, but he is so bonded with us its like he doesn't even know he's a dog. Its the running joke in our family. We adopt rescue dogs for free and they end up somehow costing thousands of dollars. |
