Rep Power: 68 | MMJ and Recovery together I've noticed there's lots of us who used to do other drugs that made our lives unmanageable, but have learned to live functionally, humbly, and peacefully with the aid of medical marijuana. I've heard rumors that there are certain NAs that are very tolerant to the idea of MMJ. If anybody knows of which ones, could they post their info here? Also, if there is no such group, why shouldn't we group together and support each other? |

Rep Power: 40287 | Re: MMJ and Recovery together I'm not an opiate addict, but I was totally hooked on tranquilizers for years. Medical MJ is what has gotten me off them. I went from taking it every day, to taking it once in a while, to not taking them at all, and using MMJ the entire time. I don't think I could have done it without the MMJ. What I'm saying is, MMJ has straightened out my drug problem. Is that crazy? It wasn't what I originally started taking it for, but I'm off tranqs for the first time in 10 years, and I just started using it 2 1/2 years ago. Can it be used to help wean people off hard drugs? I think it can. It's a whole lot easier to walk away from MJ than a physically addicting drug. Just my 2 cents. Good luck to everybody quitting any addiction. It can be done. |

Rep Power: 73 | Re: MMJ and Recovery together i have been sober for two years, but I take 3 different psyc meds. I am fearful of the things that these meds may cause, diabetes being one. I am scared to think that I could not handle mj or something. I hate to see my parents so despondent over this drug, as they have been. |

My family hates that I use MMJ too, so I never ever talk about it with them. That's just the way it has to be sometimes. It is a deep, dark secret. Big deal. Good luck.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: MMJ and Recovery together Hang in there. Don't feel bad to use MJ to help. Also don't feel obligated to use something if you feel wrong about it. A doctor gives a second hand suggestion, only you can really know how bad or good things are really getting with you. Keep them posted. Last edited by Collective Reviewer; 02-16-2010 at 12:40 AM.. This idea is what got this forum started, back a couple years ago when I was a lot more active on WT... I tried to form a Recovery group, even organized a 12-step meeting in a co-op. I was passionate about it at first, there was a lot of online interest, but when no patients actually showed up the day of the meeting, I gave up on the idea. Since then, my sobriety has suffered. I had put together 3 years clean off meth and 2.75 yrs clean off everything else when I became an MMJ patient. I kept strong with the sobriety for a while, only indulging in MJ. But because I was now alienated from AA and NA (most in those halls do not approve and those that do, keep pretty quiet about it-- how could I keep quiet when the whole process centers around honesty?), and I couldn't pull together a 12-step group out of MMJ patients, I just sort of gave up on meetings altogether. I have managed to stay away from my demon, meth.. but I've since then delved back into alcohol, psychedelics on occasion, and pain pills for a legitimate back problem (two badly bulging discs). I'm a lot healthier these days than I was back when addiction ruled my life. I've become a vegetarian, I've lost a lot of weight, my back is feeling better than ever (the pain pills are very minimal now, not even every week), and my overall wholeness and contentment in my own skin is in a better state than I can ever recall.. But I can't discount the fact that even though I'm not a raging addict, no longer a danger to myself or society.... I'm still not sober.. Could I ever be completely clean without some sort of program like AA or NA? I don't know. Will I go back again some day??? Why not... I learn more about myself, every time I do. Sincerely,

Rep Power: 73 | Re: MMJ and Recovery together I know that I had been completely off drugs and mmj for 3 years. my back started hurting bad enough, and headaches are bad, so i smoked mj. its better now. I still suffer with dishonesty and the idea of not telling the "whole truth." My family is also against the idea of medicinal marijuana. I am in the closet about it. Anyhow I can function fine, but have to realize that I am still working towards my goals. |
