Helping Kids

This is a bit off-topic... to me, it bears a personal connection to Recovery and MMj. Part of remaking myself in Recovery has been sporadic charitable/volunteer efforts. And MMj is a movement about compassion, for each other and the community. At recent ASA meets, charitable community involvement has been discussed and I am in full enthusiastic support. It's a very therapeutic act to volunteer!! And it helps us to be embraced by the non-mj-consuming public...

So… I was invited to write poetry to be hung up at the ******** in ******, CA which is currently being built. It’s part of a charitable effort put on by ******* to provide basic services, vaccinations, and free preventative medical health care to children and families who have fallen on hard times.

I'll put the poem in the next post. I have rewritten and revised some of the verses of this thing, more times than I can count. We blew it up on canvas (2’ wide x 3’ tall) yesterday, and now we’re looking to get it stretched and framed.

Please let me know what you think.. -Leosyn

Re: Helping Kids

Here it is...
--------------------

A Child’s Chance

Upon this bench, I sit and wait
As Fate untangles thread.
Burdened by the world’s weight
Deep breaths to clear my head.

My eyes behold a three-year-old
Who bounds into their scope.
I’m heartened by this three-year-old’s
Ability to cope.

To cope with Life as just a game
The outcome left to Chance
Captured in the Moment’s frame—
The Child’s tuneless Dance.

Which brings me to this Travesty
Of aging beyond Three
To beg of Age’s Majesty:
“Return my Dance to me.”

To anyone, I shall proclaim
Perfection, practice makes—
While savoring forgotten charms
Of Innocence displaced.

Nadimb,

Thanks for your interest. The canvas version has been made.. But we have not stretched, mounted, and framed it yet.. Have not made any poster versions, but once we hang the canvas in the ******, if people express an interest in purchasing their own copy... I will make posters.. proceeds will go to ******..

It's still a ways out... As I said earlier, the center is under construction. If you know the area at all, it's the old civic center in *****. The city government built a new facility nextdoor and moved their operations. The old civic center, which includes great examples of some very nice historical architecture, is being restored to its original appearance and used for community events, fundraising, public assistance programs, and other fine causes... I think the building I'm involved with will be up and running by mid December or early January.
