Rep Power: 289750 | Pain management and my Doctor's view Because of my wicked wicked past, I am saddle with some pinched nerves, and other problems that cause me pain in my left arm. I have been seeing a specialist for a while for it. Recently they switched me to a new MD and yesterday when I was there talking to her, I just slipped in the question,"What do you think about Medical Marijuana"? She paused and looked at me, and said "She was not a specialist in that field BUT SHE WOULD RATHER ME SMOKE MMJ THAT DEAL WITH THE METABOLITES FROM THE MEDICATION (PHARMACEUTICALS) I TAKE. This is a MD that went to the well respected Howard University...and she has NO PROBLEM with it. zb |

They are so afraid of what the government will do to them. They sure are ALL ready to whip out that Rx pad tho. Good for you. |

Rep Power: 26606 | Re: Pain management and my Doctor's view my primary care physician @ cedars approves of my mmj use for my sleeping issues. she didn't write me my rec, but we had a long discussion about the benefits of mmj vs pescription drugs. she doesn't want me to take pharmaceuticals if i don't have to because of the addictive nature of sleeping meds (not to mention that i don't want to take them either). she was actually more concerned that i was smoking organic, well grown meds that were free of chemicals. now, that's a doc who has their patients best interest in mind!! |

Rep Power: 82323 | Re: Pain management and my Doctor's view That sounds real promising, zbestwun2001! Hopefully more and more of this will happen, where our primary care physicians (in CA at least) will help us with MMJ support. Of course, the big test would be, would your new doctor be willing to write you a rec when your current one expires? I feel strongly that this is what we need. We need our primary care physicians to not only prescribe MMJ for us when deemed appropriate to treat an ailment, but we also need them to be educated in the different strains and advise us on which ones might be best to treat our problems! Even the MMJ docs we go to for recs are not allowed to do that, and I feel that would be a big step forward for all of us if that were to be allowed. Rep Power: 498300 | Re: Pain management and my Doctor's view Yep- amazing how this law has passed & our Drs' are afraid to accept it. Good for you ZBW- There are Docs' out there that fullu agree & know that what they have to give is, is not always the best thing. BB & I have talked about this before & it is so frustrating. I had to get another dr. recently(I left my doc of 6 years, who is the one to sugest MMJ. (Unfortunatly, she was GOOD with patients but, not so GOOD with finances) Anyways, I waited almost 5 months till I found another. My first question to her was"Do you have a problem with medicinal MJ?" Her response was"I can't help you with that" and I said" I'am not asking you to, I'am an established mmj patient for 4 years" After that, she was fine! But, still, her response was that she could not help me- so, when are Doctors going to catch up with this Law? I have been able to eliminate very strong, addictive meds from my regimen. I think that speaks volumes. Good Luck to All of you with your own Dr.s'! Lets' hope someday society & our government will understand that we SHOULD have the choice of how we are treated medically. If it were possible for us to be truthful with the Docs' & for them to be able to approach this with an open mind...we could finally have true research from medical reports. |

Rep Power: 283 | Re: Pain management and my Doctor's view Man I am glad your doctors are receptive to MMJ. Oddly enough it was pain that really opened my eyes to the power of cannabis. I struggle with mental static, OCD ect so for me pain management wasn't a factor. However when a friend was diagnosed with bone cancer and couldn't sleep with out a pharmy cocktail, or worse would suffer without sleep to avoid taking prescription drugs. I stepped out of my comfort zone and told him I was a patient. It was a little weird, with the social stigma attached to pot, being we go to church together. At any rate he accepted and to my surprise, he now get's sleep. It has being amazing to see how MMJ has help him in so many aspects of his treatment. Hospitals down here really need to put smoking/vap sections in the cancer wings like they do in Canada. Good luck to everyone, fight the good fight and endure the struggle. |

Rep Power: 720 | Re: Pain management and my Doctor's view Told my primary physican on Tues that I use MMJ. He went in to a rant about the government endorses morphine and other drugs but not MMJ. He did say that he was against people growing their own. Told him I grew for my personal use, because it was so damn expensive. H e said he worried that growers would abuse the use of MMJ. Overall he was supportive and said he had 3 other patients that were MMj patients. |
