| Headaches Due to my alphabet soup of chronic illnesses I am prone to headaches that are of migraine strength. (They aren't migraines as I don't get any of the other symptoms and migraine medication has had no effect.) Generally this is what I save my Vicodin for but I'm wondering if a particular kind of medication is known to be good for those incapacitating headaches? Indica or sativa, or any particular strain? I know headaches have widely varying etiologies so this might just be a personal trial-and-error thing but I was curious if anyone has found a good solution. |

| Re: Headaches I think for headaches its tricky . Indicas you would think would kill head pain , but for me indicas dont help my headaches . A really good sativa dom is so refreshing and soothes my mind ., also a can of COKE . Last edited by BABYHASH; 01-30-2008 at 01:13 PM.. |

I've seen a lot of incidents with my co-workers, friends and other acquaintances and they are suffering from headaches caused by high Blood Pressure. I don't know... just a thought. Otherwise, I tend to mix up a great edible with a potent hybrid. Takes the edge of my headaches when I get them. Peace DP~ |

| Re: Headaches I totally agree that overmedication sometimes can cause a headache. Unfortunately I'm allergic to aspirin and I cannot tolerate caffeine so those helpful solutions are out for me. I do make sure to stay very well hydrated and also keep my blood sugar up as dehydration and hypoglycemia are major triggers for me and an ounce of prevention is a heck of a lot cheaper than an ounce of medication! ;) EDIT: Hi Dizzy...yeah, my blood pressure is rock solid and always has been (one blessing amidst all my health nonsense!). Good thought though. Interesting idea mixing the edible with the hybrid. I do prefer hybrids anyway and that might offset the negative effects I can sometimes get with edibles. I will try a lollipop and a hybrid next time. Last edited by darkintheglow; 01-30-2008 at 01:38 PM.. |

Hindu kush, grape ape, grand daddy purple, ingrid and a few others have helped relieve pressure in my skull. i hope this helps. also take very small hits as this kind of relief does not take much mmj and if you by chance cough off of a gagger rip your head will hate you for it. |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Headaches hey its me, jah. my head fuking hurts man! I've never had anything other than ice cream headaches or these really short intense pounding sensations following losing my vision after a head rush (i.e. when I stand up really quick or have been on a 10 mile hiking trip) which the doctors couldn't really explain to me then or now This has been off and on (mostly on) for the last few days. Its the most painful non-impact sensation I've ever experienced in my head; and it doensn't really go away, just becomes less severe ONLY WHEN I VAPE (reg. waterpipe smoking makes it considerbly worse!) unless I completely stop moving for a considerable length of time (a min or more) laying down or with my head held twords my abdomen/chest area. Rarely does it complely stop with me standing or sitting completly up. It feels the best after I wake up (whether a nap or full sleep). Went to the ER based on the kaiser advice nurse's instructions and they had no idea (after cheking my blood pressure and blood sugar levels). When at a higher pain level, my vision and hearing can be impeded (mostly only hearing my heart pump blood through my head) and it gets hard to balance normally has worked its way from the top of my skull to from there to behind my eyes. I have no idea what this is and neither has anybody else so far. It can be excruciatingly painful and I have NO experience with long lasting headaches; ibs is my main chronic illness (this has been for only a few days). I'm in my early twenties and have never been diagnosed or suggested to have migraines. I have mostly sativa like strains with maybe 50% indica at the highest; which ones might help. Any advice please, this really sucks. Oh and I was minorly electrocuted around 10 last night (it was strong enough to hold my finger to it.) Can this affect things or what? THANKS Last edited by jahjuice; 03-02-2008 at 02:43 AM.. |

Perhaps you should look into people specializing in migraines, it sounds like you might have developed them. I really don't know much about em, but maybe you can find some answers there. Dealing with Kaiser on the matter however may be a whole other challenge since the ER gave you a clean bill of health more or less. But I would look into seeing if you can get seen again by someone more specialized. ER docs are great, at ER doc'ing, that doesn't mean they know their stuff in all fields necessarily. | ||

Rep Power: 538 | Re: anti-seizure drugs for Migraines The only thing that breaks the horrible migraines I suffer, is an anti-seizure medication called Topamax. It has its own side effects, but not that bad as long as I stay hydrated. It also helps with my nerve pain a bit. I can't take Excedrin, I outgrew that when I took a box of it a month, and started to see things during my Migraine Auras! I pray I never see those worms from the movie 'Beatlejuice' attacking me ever again. As with most Fibro patients, I suffer a plethera of other illnesses, and managing them isn't easy. This is just one arena I've actually received relief in. So far, Indica, or Indica hybrid first helps with Migraine pain, about as fast as a Tryptophan. I prefer Sativa during the day, or Sativa hybrid, but a Migraine must be shot down ASAP! |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: anti-seizure drugs for Migraines I get terrible migraines and Topamax is used as a preventative medication (to try to decrease the number of migraines that you get). The problem with topamax is that is decreases your appetite (and may make you nauseous) and makes it hard to maintain your weight. Other sumatripan medications (like Imitrex) are used at the onset of the migraine to try to "abort" or stop the migraine in its tracks. This only works for about 66% of people. I take the sub Q imitrex (or the injectable kind), but it also comes in pill form and a nasal spray (these weren't strong enough). After that, for the excrutiating pain from true migraines pain medication is a last resort. Vicodin and Percocet don't even touch the pain. I had to resort to fentanyl which has a potency of about 81 the times that of morphine. Basically a ridiculously toxic drug. Why put all of those toxic drugs into our systems when a natural plant, cannabis, can fight the pain and associated nausea associated with migraines? I also found an article online that asserted that cannabis had preventative effects for migraine sufferers. I will post the link to the article if anyone is interested (and as soon as I find it). |
