I have a bad fever. What are your thoughts about medicating while sick like this? I haven't in 2 days. Has anyone tried this?

I used to take ice rips from a nice bong when I was sick like that..I think it helps just dont take huge rips that make you cough.. long as you are taking something like tylenol and are getting enough fluids you shouldnt have any problems but if you arent starting to feel better in a few days I would probably get checked out....remember no one has ever died from smoking weed

Of course I medicate when I am sick, is this a trick ? If you are having problems with your lungs you might be a little xtra careful you dont choke to hard. If you have access to edibles thats better. The best thing you can do is use tincture while ur sick. This can be found at most Co op's. I get mine @ Dana Point Safe Harbour Collective, $30 per ounce and you have a great smokeless medicine u can put in your pocket or just give ur lungs a rest while u r still sick.

I'm no doctor, but here's a few things I know from my research:

Fever in itself should not usually be treated. Fever is a signal that something is wrong with your body and that the body is responding to it to fight it off. (WebMD) The best thing to do is to keep yourself hydrated and rested. Don't forget that drinking too much water can actually cause death, so drinking electrolyte-type drinks like Gatorade can be much better when trying to keep hydrated.(wikipedia- fever)

As for using MMJ as a "treatment" for fever.....
If your fever is caused by the flu or a similar virus, the fever's brought on by the inflammation from the infected cells. wikipedia influenza
THC and (E)-betacaryophyllene are both found in MMJ and have anti-inflammatory properties (national geographic- mj and (e)-bcp). I don't know if this will help the fever or not, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

Along the same lines, THC has been found to have antibacterial properties (NYTimes- MJ may fight bacteria). if your fever is caused by a bacteria, MMJ may help fight this.

As for actual Antipyretic (fever-reducing) properties, MJ was used in the Medieval Islamic world in the 8th-18th centuries. (wikipedia- mmj), and recently was found to have some effect when orally induced in rats (drug library - marijuana antipyretic)

Most of the above research has been found from experiments done on rats and mice, not humans. I haven't found any reliable sources of research on the medical use of mj to combat the common cold or symptoms from it.

Really, though, I think that there's little risk of MMJ causing damage to your body while you have a fever, as long as you are staying hydrated and otherwise healthy. However if your illness is also causing respiratory symptoms (coughing, wheezing, phlegm), it would probably not be a good idea to smoke. If you need to medicate for pain or some other symptom while feeling fever, edibles may be a safer bet.

If you are going to smoke, I would recommend cleaning your pipe before using it- especially if its been handled by other people. Trying to keep yourself clean of bacteria and virii while you're sick will be better for you in the short and long run.

I always medicate as heavily as I can when I'm sick. I don't know what it does for the fever....but it sure lets me rest

someone just sent me a rep comment saying "water, lots of water" which I agree with to some extent. But don't be fooled, you literally can overdose on water.

a better treatment than "water, lots of water" is "stay hydrated, and remember to drink beverages that contain sodium" (sports beverages like Gatorade, Powerade, etc
