Rep Power: 3629 | Police harrassment 10/27/09. Sorry about this everyone. As most of you know already, we have been harassed by the city today. There were instances where a police was parked in our alley waiting for patients to leave our facility in order to pull them over. Almost all our patients left without being hassled by the police but some were unlucky. What they are doing is entrapment and it is illegal. As long as you have your medication in the trunk, stapled and sealed, and you have your medical recommendation, you are doing nothing against the law. There were some instances where the police gave tickets for any little minor thing wrong with whom ever they pulled over. So as long as you are in complete compliance with the law, they can't do anything to you. After we've heard that the police was harassing our patients, we immediately took action. Our spokesperson spoke to the Chief of Police in Beaumont over the phone in order to find out just what was going on! Turns out, the Chief of Police didn't know anything about that operation. After talking with the Chief of Police, our director called our lawyers and talked things out with them. Soon after couple calls, the police was no where in sight. But it is a coincidence that this happened soon after the city found out we, Oak Tree Alternative, will be a guest speaker as well as Nancy Gall, a City Counsel member who is also for medical marijuana. To everyone who has been affected by this, we're terribly sorry for this inconvenience and we hope to see you soon. Last edited by Oak Tree Alternative Care; 10-27-2009 at 07:31 PM.. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Police harrassment 10/27/09. Sorry about this everyone. The cop that pulled me over never asked anything about medication, drugs, mmj card, or anything. I visited today in hopes of clones and left with nothing and still got pulled over. Sucks that the only real way to get out because of traffic and other cars was down the back ally right infront of him. Not to be a hater but the parking situation with the shady alleys full of bad ppl (cops) makes this location undesirable to me despite the great product. Is there any plans to improve on the parking situation? Seems like the city of Beaumont has some people on board with medical marajuana and some that are not. As a member I would like to know the current legal status and profiling cop status with the city and county. I thought this wouldn't be a problem and albeit my vehicle wasn't up to code, I dont feel like im fully aware with my "Legal status" with the city of Beaumont. |

Rep Power: 10697 | Re: Police harrassment 10/27/09. Sorry about this everyone. yeah i was stopped leaving but not outside the club, it was over by bakers anyways the cop asked me if i had a mmj recommendation but didnt even ask to look at it. he then asked where my meds were and i told him the trunk , we asked why he pulled us over and he said not wearing seat belts ( we were in a 60 something mustang) we had our lap belts on.so we didnt get a ticket.. i dont think the whole force is out to get patients. i just think a couple on the force dont like mmj too much and will pull you over if they see something they can write you up for. i will continue to go to oak tree (when i can afford it) with no fear. I have been there when the cops were there and they were nothing but nice to me. I also got family who goes here daily after work and has never been harassed once.. i am willing to bet this is a dead issue now thanks to the call from otac lawyer . now maybe the city can get in line and end the fines so we can get a lower cap |

After purchasing my meds, There was a policeman sitting in his car right out front of the co-op. I then walked to my vehicle, parked across the street. I don't have a trunk as I drive a truck. I locked my meds in my glovebox, thinking I was for sure gonna get pulled over. The police stared me down hard as I pulled away, I am a professional looking type and I drive a nice car. I don't know if that helped. I don't know why we voted on this if the "MAN" is gonna hassle us..... I do love this co-op. So many great meds, I don't know what to get..!! I will go here again..! Peace out, Parrothead |

I wont be coming by till the coast is clear. There is just to much at stake and there are other options. Its unfortunate, and I do not blame OTAC for the police harassment. But it is hardly safe access when LEO targets OTAC patients | |

Rep Power: 12737 | Re: Police harrassment 10/27/09. Sorry about this everyone. quite simple...the cops are watch because the rules are being broken outside the shop! There are car loads of kids sitting in the back waiting for their friends, the bags are not being stuck in trunks, they are being opened before you get home (not everyone) The last three times I pulled in the parking lot it was not LEO that stopped me from going in. It was the kids in the cars in the parking lot! Once the SUV of four or five were loudly discussing the hotboxing of the car with the "sick" dank blunts. Two of the windows were down where blunts were being cut and emptied onto the ground. Do you think that "patients" bag was going in a lock box? Do you think s/he was going to wait until they got home? ENFORCE your own rules OTAC! If you cannot control your patients BPD will. It is as simple as that! Put cameras back there and watch your lot. If you see a patient pull up with a carload of people DENY THEM! The reason they don't do this at the other shop up the street (soon to be across the street from you) is because their security stops it from happening, they are not just standing their with guns on their hips being glorified doormen. They go into the parking lot and see whats up, they turn away folks who come in with carloads! I am not talking about one person sitting in the car because s/he was the driver. Your back lot at times is not safe because of the element that hangs out back there waiting for their buddy to get their drugs. Or people hanging back there trying to get weed from someone going in. It makes it unsafe for patients like myself who have a need for MMJ to get my medicine (from you) Have you ever thought of changing your lobby and your store room around? Let people in the back door? Then your doorman I mean security guy can see the parking lot and deny people? For those of us who follow the rules we should look at this as protection of sorts. If everything in your life is on the up and up (and it should be) then you are inconvienced for a few mins if they even pull you over. If your tags are out of date, vehicle has broken lights, burned out lights, speeding or if you are driving uninsured then you get your ticket and you are on your way provided you have stored your meds properly Basically if we give them cause to harass us they will! I always put mine in my truck with my rec and then if I ever get pulled over it is a very simple process (provided I have a smart cop lol) And following you out of town (if that is indeed what he was doing and not just going the same way) is not harassment, he seeing if you are going to break the law and give him cause to do his job! Remember he does have a job and I for one an insured driver appriciates him getting the uninsured, unlicensed driver off the road! |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Police harrassment 10/27/09. Sorry about this everyone. All these problems come down to their parking lot. They need a better location that doesn't require parking in a dark alley. They need to change locations where people can't hang out and not be visible from the street. This would probly fix the cops basicly hidding back their too cause they would be able to clearly see with a simple drive by instead of having to drive down a shady alley. |

I see why i havent visited this shop...high prices and police do not mix...instead of harrassing patients they need 2 regulate the co-op about these outrageous prices...so much for non profit org...I hope my fellow patients who were harrassed were compensated...i hope the police didnt take their $70 1/8th... |

Sorry about this everyone. totally agree with Washgirl. and as to all collective should do the same thing, even though some already have cameras on their lots. For me, I would walk to the place after parking my car down the street if the parking is that bad. |

Maybe it would be a good idea to put cameras on the outside of the building, and if you have access a light to shine brightly on the alley. If they are going to hide there you might as well let them hide in a well lit area. Also, if there are security cameras out front they will make sure to keep in line. They may not like MMJ, but they like having a job more than that. |
