It's very difficult to pick one. Many of my very favorite artists are DJs , but I won't count that. As far as bands, I can't narrow down one all time favorite, but some of my favorites are Monster Magnet, Green Jello, Steel Pulse, Led Zep, Duran Duran, Blind Guardian, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

(OK so it IS my band - so WHAT!)

Other than that I could never even begin to pick a "favorite" it depends on my mood.
I do love all of the classic rock bands as well as most of the "New Music" (or Alternative Rock) bands. Not really into Rap/hip hop - different generation so it is hard to relate - BUT I do love the way they mix samples and stuff from other stuff, I just have trouble getting all of the lyrics (Yeah I'm a geezer!)
So I also like a couple of Jazz bands but mostly I am into the Blues. Real authentic down home Blues too, please NO white people singing! Not saying white folks can't play the Blues - I just prefer mine "Authentic". Pre WW2 is my absolute favorite! Scratchy 78 RPM records on the old Victrola - nothing like it!

Man, there are just too many to choose from, but if just one it would be the John Coltrane quartet... Yes, the quartets changed personnel due to drugs and death sometimes, but any one of his quartets was tight. I would love to have heard Paul Chambers and McCoy Tyner jam with John... My favorite bass player and piano player that played with John, they just never cut an album or jammed together all 3 of them... Oh, what could've been... Music, ain't it the shit!!!???

There are just too many to list, but cool asw thread though... as I think I said in the past, you don't want to get me started on music.... Nobody would probably want to listen to music anymore I'd bore them to death on it

I'm curious to hear what other people have to say, I'm anxious to check out new things that I haven't heard before. So keep posting, it's rare that anything new that comes out is good these days... I'm optimistic that there are hot new bands out there doing the damn thing that I just haven't of yet... I hope...

I'm a member of the younger crowd, and I don't think that's uncool at all! Tom Petty is fantastic, in fact , now that you mention it, I'd go as far as to include him in my list of favorites!
