Rock revolutionized how songs were written and expressed, creating an entire new category of music with seemingly endless mutations of sub-categories. Hip Hop, changed what we thought of as music, and broke the rules rock made. It has also gone on to influence every single other form and type of music..from rock to classical, Hip Hop has been incorporated. Hip Hop also has much older roots in African tribal music and such....but.....the founding of Hip Hop was in the Bronx, at the House parties, and out in the park, where African Bambataa DJ'd the Zulu Nation Parties. It was there that he started cuttin' record breaks and friend's started grabbing the mic. It was there that most of the old school mc's either started or got inspired from LL to the Beastie Boys.... ....now the question is, what were the records Bambataa spun? The answer is in an effort to stop the fighting among the different types of kids on the blocks, and to make everyone feel welcome, he spun records from Soul, Disco, Punk, R & B, and Rock....damn, I wish I was older and a New Yorker so I could'a been at those parties. I think the both have their share of strong influences and weak ones. It's more on the person who sing the bloody song not on the style of the genre.. |
