The first Smoke Out Festival took place in 1999 in San Bernardino, CA being the brainchild of Insider Magazine and Cypress Hill. It was originally produced to celebrate the Cypress 4 album and generate an increased awareness of the magazine. What ensued was the creation of an urban phenomenon. Over 13,000 people gathered at the NOS Events Center for the “Largest hip hop release party ever.” MTV touted the Smoke Out for creating a peaceful environment that was done in true Cypress Hill Fashion. The all day mind opening festival included performances from the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, The Pharcyde, Dial-7, Dilated Peoples, Jurassic 5, Tijuana No, & a surprise performance from the Grammy-nominated trio of Black Eyed Peas. The annual Cypress Hill Smoke Out Festival came to the Los Angeles city limits on November 5, 2002 for a one day event that continued on with its tradition: bringing an assorted line up of musical genius that includes hip hop, rock, and electronic dance music. Artists that took the stage included Kool Keith, The Used, Kottonmouth Kings, Supernatural, Everlast, Adema, Face to Face, RX Bandits, Mudvayne, Cypress Hill and Snoop Dogg finishing up the night.

In 2003, Cypress Hill sparked up its sixth annual Smoke Out festival on November 15 in San Bernardino. The star-studded lineup included: Linkin Park, Pennywise, Papa Roach, Body Count, Super Joint Ritual, Obie Trice, Soc Martin, MC Supernatural, and Dead Prez. This year Guerilla Union is teaming up with Cypress Hill once again to bring back the highly anticipated event after a five-year hiatus.
