Rep Power: 0 | Strains for Migranes!! please Help! Hey everybody. Just wondering. I have severe migranes and marijuanna seems to help but only some strains. Does anybody have any good suggestions of strains that would be good for severs migranes? I dont care about any other side effects. I just need something strong. The point is to get this freakin pain out of my skull!!! oh, and possible co-ops that may carry the strains would be great. im in long beach so the closer the better. |

Rep Power: 12 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! Greenkind, Sorry no one has responded. I have migranes too. I cannot smoke and only eat edibles. Edibles with indicas seem to help me quite a bit but I have to catch them early when I first start seeing the aura or flashes. I have heard that vaping can really help, although I have never done it. Anyone have any ideas? |

Rep Power: 5379 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! Smoking occasionally causes migraines for me. Vaporizing and edibles are the way to go. My suggestion is to find a dispensary you like and start making your way through their menu. I started working from heavy indicas and heavy sativas in towards both ends of the hybrid spectrum. You'll find that some strains work for some types of pain and stages of migraine, while others make it worse. Its can be a long process, but its not without some fun... when you find one that works. Goodluck, PM me for specifics. |

Rep Power: 4028 | okay i have had headaches for a while and here is my advice. if u get migraines stay away from sativa's. from my experience sativa's tend to give me a intense high but most of the high i can feel in my forehead(especially headband). go with a heavy indica , purple kush works really well for me. and try and set the mood |

Rep Power: 4126 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! I have not tried every strain yet, but I get headaches ( Migraines ) also. I know how bad it sucks to not be able to even move because you are in so much pain. I looked and asked the same questions you are asking. I found Blue Dream, or Grand Daddy purp both seem to work well for me. I hate to say keep tryin' diffrent types till you find the ones that work best for you, but I found it was the only way that worked for me. Oh, I really really enjoy the Jack Herer too. I would just get a little blue dream and see if that works for you, if not the Grand Daddy purp, and see if that helps you at all. |

Stay away from all Diesels and Most sativas.... These go right into the Head and eye areas and just add to the Pain and sensitivity of light.... Absolutely go with Bubbas, Masters, Platinums or OGs....Indicas, and Kushs...... Be carefull with Hybrids...Some are great and some are not..... Rep Power: 5379 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! A few weeks ago I started to feel like smoking was actually causing more pain during my migraines and even occasionally caused migraines. (I had been suspicious of this for a while, but it only became unavoidable recently) Vaporizing on the other hand just helped... and helped well. So, I decided to do an experiment and stop smoking... no exceptions. Its been 3 weeks now and I cant say my migraines are better, but the correlation between migraine pain and weed disappeared. It was the few exceptions during my experiment that helped to answer my question. The three times that I had no other means to medicate other than smoking I found some relief, but a strange lingering pain that got stronger towards the end of my high. This isn't to say smoking didn't help: I would have been a wreck without it, but it wasn't as clean a pain relief as the vape and it can leave some lingering weed-caused pain. Vape, Edibles, and Tincture are the best for migraines. |

Rep Power: 95669 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! Well I'm a 15 year vet of migraines I get the aura as well but I get them throughout the migraine not just the onset, they are actually going on right now, the right side of my vision is mostly black. But I'm going agsinst the grain on this one, I see pepole saying stay away from the deisels? what? really? those for me are some of the best strains for me. NYC Diesel works great, Chemdawg too. The heavy inicas are ok if I just need to pass out i guess, but I'm a single working parent who needs to function on a daily basis and those are m 2 go to strains for relief. |

Rep Power: 13401 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! Dr. Ethan Russo published an interesting paper presenting a historical summary of the use of cannabis and cannabis extracts for the treatment of chronic migraines. (I found the paper on line at http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/hh.pdf). Prior to it's prohibition, cannabis was widely prescribed for migraine treatment. Not only for treatment of acute symptoms, but also as a prophylactic! Patients would take regular dosages to keep the headaches away! I always knew it was very soothing during the living hell these headaches bring, but I never even considered the idea that cannabis could prevent migraines. This got me thinking about my history of dealing with these headaches. It was one of those moments when everything comes together and actually seems to make sense. I remember dealing with them a lot as a younger teenager (no pot), but not so much in my late teens and throughout my college years (used marijuana daily). The frequency of my migraines skyrocketed after I graduated and entered the workforce (I assumed it was due to stress from the job, but I had also stopped smoking because of the random drug testing). I have found that, for myself, daily cannabis use seems to have been very helpful in preventing migraines. It doesn't have to be a lot, either. A couple of hits each night before bed can make all the difference! I went from an average of 60 migraine days a year to only two or three! The specific strains do not seem to make much difference, so I just stick to the flavors I enjoy for daily use. When migraines do strike, however, I want to have the heaviest indica possible. Smoking gives the most immediate relief. However, I only had access to edibles when I suffered a migraine on a recent trip out of the country . (My daily smoking was disrupted as I felt forced to travel without smokeable medicine.) I did have edible medicine available, and ate a homemade chocolate chip cookie as soon as I realized I was starting to get another migraine. It took much longer than smoking/vaporizing to take effect, but when it did, the relief was much, much deeper than with smoking! I was back on my feet and out of the darkness incredibly quickly. I think an effective strategy to attack a migraine headache would be a combined smoked/eaten dosage as soon as symptoms seem to appear. I am so thankful that I no longer need all that pharmaceutical crap and it's associated uncomfortable and sometimes alarming side effects! |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Strains for Migranes!! please Help! So, all in all it seems that there is no general consensus. Each person has different reactions to different strains. I have gathered a quick and dirty line up of all the responses in this post as well as any others I found on Migraines on this site. My wrap up is at the end if you want to skip to it. General These are strains with no names. Where a member suggested a species over a particular culture (or brand name) A negative means that the member stated to stay away from the species and a plus, well it means it was suggested. Sativas: - - - +++++++ Indicas: - - ++++++ Hybrids: ++ ( there was a note to be careful) MADE THEM FEEL WORSE: a-z order This is fun. Here are some strains that members suggested that people avoid. However, if you read further …others suggested these strains. **All names here were mentioned at least once. I added a ‘+’ symbol for each additional mention of a strain. -------------------------------------------------- Diesels+ Purps+ Snowcaps Train Wrecks YAY!!! Suggestions: a-z order Here we go … the suggestions. As you can see, some of these were mentioned above. I did not negate them because of that, I listed them as mentioned. If a general strain was mentioned I listed it alphabetically. So OG Kush falls after OG as a general suggestion. But Kush is ALSO a general strain suggestion. Like above, these have a ‘+’ symbol for each additional mention of a particular strain. Also if a strain has a * in front of it; it means the member was especially enthusiastic. ------------------------------------------------ AFWRECK Bubbas Chemdog (91) DJ Shorts Blueberry G-d's Gift+ Grapefruit. Green Crack* Blue Dream Grand Daddy purp ++ JackFflash Jack Herer + Headband + Masters OG Strains + OG KUSH OG Herojuana Kushs LA Confidential * NYC Diesel Purple Kush Platinums Platinum Bubba* Platinum Sour D Skywalker OG Snocap Super Silver Haze Trainwreck Wallawalla Hussein One thing that kept popping up in the responses was the issue of Vaping. Not one person said don’t vape . This was an agreement by all who mentioned it. At one point it was a doctor recommend. Edibles were also mentioned positively. The only drawback being wait time. And when you hurt, wait time is a drag. ------------------- Whats the wrap up? Well ~ It seems you have to try it and see. I am leaning toward trying ONLY the ones that have a plus sign next to them The more they have…the first in line they are. Also, I bought a vaporizer. So, The contenders are: Grand Daddy purp ++ OG Strains + OG Kush (it has OG and Kush both suggested generally) Jack Herer + Headband + G-d’s Gift + Anecdotally, we have had GREAT success with Honey infused with Sour Diesel. Does it get rid of the pain? Dunno~ but for my wife, it knocks her out. Sleepy time. And sleep= no headache. Yay sleep. |
