Rep Power: 3186 | What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? MMJ usually helps my anxiety, but there are some times with edibles that it might be a bit too much - I'm just too high, and can't calm down. Anybody have any techniques or anything that help you when you're just too damn high for hours on end? Any info would be appreciated. |

Rep Power: 11080 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? one thing that always helps me calm down in any situation is a nice relaxing warm shower or bath. Sipping on warm/hot tea or soup usually helps too. Excersizing helps me with anxiety and will make you come down faster but might not be the best option when stoned out of your skull. I also sometimes find that after munching out i find myself feeling slightly more sober. It sucks being overly medicated but the best way to avoid it is to start out with small doses and work your way up till your at the perfect level. hope this helps |

Rep Power: 5511 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? Breathe in deep through the nose hold for 2 seconds... slowly release... and repeat. Doing this near a window or breathing cool air tends to be more effective. Also mellow music helps... I recommend reggae. I have also heard Benedryl helps but never have tried it. |

This way your supply will be predictable. If that's not an option, and you can't smoke for one reason or another, follow SpirituallyEnlightened's advice and try half-dosing. |

Rep Power: 20570 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? The first thing to remember is that the anxiety is just anxiety... MMJ, unless you have ingested over about 50 grams of PURE THC is unlikely to cause any actual physical harm..... Second. Taking one drug (Benedryl) to control the effects of another drug should be left to folks with the necessary training and information. (Doctors) If you are experiencing side effects from MMJ that are severe enough to require another drug...go to the emergency room.... you are a legal MMJ patient, so there should be no legal ramifications.... Most folks (me among them) who use edibles a lot have at one time or another overdone it... I personally just ride it out... but that can be awful for some folks... In that case.... eat and drink. Lots... basically, flood your digestive system, and flush any unprocessed MMJ... Remember, by the time you feel the effects of an edible, it is out of your stomach and in your small intestine, throwing up wont help..... Otherwise, do the things you would normally do to calm down, be it take a shower, or listen to music, or whatever... It will pass in a couple hours... |

Rep Power: 11017 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? Take a teaspoon or so of honey, wait about 10 minutes. Best cure for over doing it that I have found (thanks to another WTer). Benydryl works but honey works better and is all natural. |

Rep Power: 732 | ask the people at your dispensary if the edibles are made out of a indica sativa or mix of the two. sativa and mix made edibles are the ones that will give you more of an up head high. i say get an indica made edible so your body will relax. i have anxiety/restlessness and that is what works for me. if the edible i eat deos give me anxiety then i make sure i have a 100% indica to smoke. that will cut back the anxiousness. Rep Power: 3052 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? I have had this issue as well. When I get anxious, I just start to deep breathe and get in my buddha position. At worst I can take a Xanax to control anxiety, but I prefer to just calm down on my own if I can help it, it makes it easier the next time. |

Rep Power: 3186 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? I have been using benzos for a long time and they work, but I'm hoping to get away from them for good. I have heard yoga is good for just about everything. Thanks to all for your replies, and any more are appreciated. Somebody else mentioned a spoonful of honey to ease MJ anxiety. I've read other posts about that. Sounds like a nice cure to me. I also happened to fiind edibles that are consistent every time, so that'll help I'm sure. Rep Power: 3052 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? Water and air always helps, and then deep breathing. Sometimes I like to imagine I am a hero from a fighting game, and all of the anxiety I am feeling is my power. Then boom I release it like a sonic boom, hitting my opponent and winning the round. :star-wars-smiley: Last edited by Moph; 05-23-2009 at 03:28 AM.. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? its all about cognitive therapy to deal with anxiety, and panic attacks. sometime people think a small panic attack is anxiety, and its not. panic attacks are from an over active adrenal gland, and the way to make them stop is to teach urself how to relax. i mean really relax. u want to enter a cognitive state of mind. what i do, is when im having a panic attack or anxiety (which hasnt happened in years because of my methods), is to lay back in a comfy chair, or lay in bed. you must be fully supported for this to work. what u do is go through every muscle in your body, starting at the top of your head working towards your feet. flex each muscle for 5 seconds then release it. when u release, make sure u are completely letting go and relaxing that muscle. study how that relaxation feels to that certain muscle. do this with every muscle in your body. study how being relaxed really feels. most of the time people think they are relaxed, but are really tense in certain areas. this really makes your anxiety and panic attacks never go away. while your doing your relaxation practice, learn to control your breathing. breath in through your nose, and out your mouth, but you dont want to shallow breath. shallow breathing is another direct cause of panic attacks and anxiety. every time im ever anxious ill notice my breathing is shallow and fast paced. slow it down, WAY DOWN. breath deep into your diaphram and hold it. everytime you release your breath, feel your body relaxing more and more. do all these exercises with your eyes closed, and imagine your own happy place. mine is standing in a cannabis field breathing in the cool crisp air while having a picnic with my wife. continue to breath deep and relax your body. u will feel yourself calming down in no time if you concentrate and clear your mind. with practice, you will be able to reach a cognitive state of mind, and really relax your whole body any time you feel anxious. i can be in a cognitive state even if im standing in the middle of a mall and everyones staring at me. PANIC ATTACKS AND ANXIETY ARE 100% CONTROLLABLE WITH YOUR MIND. if anyone would really like to know how to control it and relax, and truely end your anxiety and panic attacks i will gladly go much more in depth with this method. it might sound a little weird, or new age, but i was stuck in a house for over a year because of extreme panic attacks and anxiety. and now i havent had a panic attack in almost 7 years :) |

Rep Power: 4235 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? I posted this on one of the other WeedTRACKER forums a while back, but I'm re-posting here, because you may find the information helpful ... Marijuana and the "trust hormone" In recent years there have been exciting scientific discoveries about a powerful hormone whose role in the human body has long been neglected. Oxytocin is the hormone involved in bonding, sex, childbirth, and breast-feeding, as well as in relaxation and feelings of calm. It is the mirror image of the stress hormone (adrenaline), which triggers the "fight or flight" systems in the body. Much has been written about the latter but the many-sided importance of oxytocin is currently known only to specialists in obstetrics, physiology, and psychiatry. A book, called "The Oxytocin Factor: Tapping the Hormone of Calm, Love, and Healing" by Dr. Kerstin Uvnäs-Moberg, notes that a few studies have begun to illuminate the links between marijuana and oxytocin. Some have shown that marijuana may stimulate the release of oxytocin to produce calm and ease social encounters. About 20 years ago, I had surgery to remove a benign tumor from my pituitary gland, so any new info about the endocrine system (and positive effects on it by medical marijuana) are always interesting to me. I use medical marijuana to help with panic/social anxiety issues. The sativa-dominate strains/hybrids seem to be most effective, in this area. - here's the Amazon link to the book ... http://www.amazon.com/Oxytocin-Facto.../dp/0738207489 |

Rep Power: 3501 | I definitely know what you mean by MMJ giving you anxiety, I find that many times when I make myself nervous by over thinking about the situation I'm in. For me trusting on the fact that MMJ is going to help me relax and keeping a positive attitude before and after medicating always helps put my mind at ease. Having a positive experience and being comfortable with your medication and the dosage you take is always important to your own well being, physically and psychologically. Everyone has given great advice, from listening to music and taking a bath but I would also recommend lowering your dosage and trying breathing exercises for times when the anxiety gets bad. I can usually take a Xanax to calm my anxiety but completely relying on them scares me. Being comfortable with my daily intake and knowing my medication makes me a lot more relaxed. For example I find that Sativas in particular calm my anxiety down while giving me a nice uplifting and optimistic feeling. Yet Indica's and some concentrates tend to make me feel too relaxed to the point where I will freak out about being way to mellow. The best thing to do would be to monitor your intake, what times you medicate at (maybe you aren't medicating at the best time), where & who you are/with (your environment is a large external influence on how you can feel at any given time), and most importantly what you're medicating & method of intake (Indica, Sativa, Concentrates, Edibles, etc.) After monitoring yourself just find the best combination to solving why you're getting anxiety from your medicine and what you can do to stop that anxiety from coming on. Hope that some of this helps! |

Rep Power: 11017 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? My understanding (completely unscientific) is that the honey increases your blood sugar, and the drop in blood sugar is part of the cause of the MMJ induced anxiety. Of course if it were just blood sugar a swig of OJ or some other sugar would also work. We need research. I haven't had an anxiety problem for several months, so I haven't really investigated this further. Honey works for me (maybe it is psychosomatic?) |

Rep Power: 338 | Re: What to do when your MMJ gives you anxiety? man o man o my......I tell you what..... If I found some mmj that made me feel weird like you guys are describing......shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit I'd smoke/eat that shit allllllllll the time. Edibles do not work for me at all.....never had. I'm absolutely dying to try the edibles your talking about. Hey seriously though.....it's all in your head. If you know you have tendencies to wig out or feel overly anxious......talk to yourself before hand. Don't be one of those people who say "I'm not going to say the word panic attack out loud or in my head. Because if I say it....then it might happen" screw that. Get comfortable with it. again GET COMFORTABLE WITH IT!!! Someone said to lower your consumption.....that's the best idea here |
