Question Salvia use and possible lingering psychosis?

My son is having some psychological problems. I think that it could be related to his admitted use of Salvia. From what I have been able to learn from the internet and speaking with a couple of people I trust with experience with this plant the affects, though often very mind expanding/altering do not last.

Does anyone have any experience or know if perhaps overindulgence with Salvia could cause lingering effects? He is confused, not at all himself and begining therapy to try to return to normal. This is not a constant state, he tells me he is having "flashbacks".

I am not asking for any diagnosis. He is under doctors care. I am a mother who does not fully understand the affect of this plant. My experience is with marijuana I did not experiment with any halluconegenics so I'm in unfamiliar territory.

Thank you in advance to those who reply. I'm trying to hold on to some hope.

Re: Salvia use and possible lingering psychosis?

your son saw the other side , and it can be disturbing, but like all things, this will pass to. salvia excites awhole different receptor in the brain, it should be used with respect, not that he didn't, but salvia is not for the weak of heart, or the unsure mind.

positive affirmations, good sleep and food, long walks on the beach or in the park, and your son will come around better, and wiser than before. lsd will hang with ya alot longer physiologically than salvia, but the journey from salvia is much different from lsd.

sacred journeys sometime visit demons, it's all an illusion it's all an illusion.....

be well

I don't think the Salvia would hurt him, but the experiences on salvia, since they are outside the framework of consensus reality, tend to lend a sense of out-of-place-ness when dealing with the day today mundane social interaction we all need to get along in society. So, if he is doing a lot(salvia) he may need a few months or so to get out of that cloudy trees-are-people-too feeling. It can send one into introspective spans of time due to the lack of ability for us to even process some of those experiences, it takes time just to surface up to conscious awareness if that makes sense. My wish is that he does not have any deep conflict inside him that any aided voyage into the inner world would be in conflict wth and if so, that he has the inner strength to overcome and use it as a learning experience. Much love to your son and you! Let him know that it's ok to talk about ANYTHING that he comes upon in his mind in the unfolding of this and he will have a better time. Salvia is not a recreational drug, unless you think of skydiving as recreational curb hopping....
