| MMJ daily vs. sporadic use Hi all. I smoke MMJ mainly for depression/anxiety/ insomnia. Before I got my recommendation, I only smoked it once a month (if that). Since Feb '07 - the day I got my rec, I've pretty much smoked it every single day except maybe 4 days. I smoke about a joint a day Mon-Fri, two on both Sat & Sun, with hash on the side occasionally. Just wondering if anybody with any of my problems has experimented with taking it every day - like an anti-depressant vs. smoking it only on weekends, or a day break in between smokes. I'm getting good results from the MMJ. I'm happier, I'm much more friendly and polite to others. Only problem is, the tolerance. I just can't seem to catch a real heavy buzz without having to smoke about 1/3 of a gram at least. I miss being out of reality for a while, like when I first got on it. It was great for "deep-introspection"psychedelic trips, when I first got on it. Now, it's relaxing and very nice (not complaining) but it's kind of lost its punch unless I take a strong edible - which upsets my stomach and is very expensive, IMO. Taking money out of the equation, I'm hoping to find which way is more effective. So anybody else - is MMJ more effective as a daily med, or a only when you need it med? Should I take ANOTHER hit of hash? I think so. |

| Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use Thanks for asking. I smoke out of glass pipes and bongs, and joints. With hash, I smoke it in the bong with a glass screen and cold water. I also have tried many different edibles. I'm asking too much from MMJ, I guess. It still works for me, but I'm probably just uncomfortable with ANOTHER daily med, even one I love and has helped me every single day I've used it. Money is also getting to be an issue (insert humiliation here). I know MMJ is safer than almost any other substance known on earth, so I'm not worried about it giving me any kind of physical withdrawal so I'm just going to lay off it for a few days, then I'm going to smoke it and see what happens. But first, another bowl... |

Rep Power: 1649 | Hey SenorLou I also suffer from Anxiety/Depression/Insomnia.I've found that its best to smoke Sativas during the day,and save your potent sleep inducing Indicas for the night.I like Sativas for the day because of there smell/effect the "up" high is nice for daytime Anxiety,Depression. You should try 'Cheese',or 'Grapefruit Haze' for daytime Depression/Anxiety.I like to keep it 'XXX OG' at nitetime,'Bananna Kush','Ingrid','Purple Erkle',the best sleep med for me is the 'HASHPLANT'. |

| Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use Short breaks from smoking are terrible for the first 3 days for me. After that, I can take it or leave it, but usually almost always have returned so far. Less is more for the head effect you describe as being hard to recreate. I get it again after taking at least one full week off from smoking. I am trying to convert to edibles as a "taper" right now. It does indeed help with the mood, but not too sure about the anxiety yet. Depends on so many things. This is day 7 on my reduced smoking "forced break". Sore throats are wickedly unpleasant. |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use I find that MMJ works best for me when I take it on an as needed basis, but I take it for chronic pain and digestive problems. If depression were my problem (and it has been from time to time) I would take regular clarity breaks and a day off from time to time to avoid getting "stuck". Weed is good for arresting cycling, depressing thoughts, but everything has to be dealt with eventually. Get out if you can, get some exercise if you're able, and learn something new. Get involved in some sort of spiritual practice, and don't be hard on yourself. Take a hit if you are on a downward spiral and need to arrest your fall. That's what worked best for me. Staying high didn't. Commune with nature! You do develop a tolerance after a while resulting in a need for more and stronger weed. If you can't get high, take a break. Good luck Sporadic, i hope you feel better soon. |

I smoke about the same amount as you, about 1/2 to 1g/d, 2x on weekends,-no hash though. I'm more happier, serene, thoughtful, & patient with my family thanks to it. As a diabetic it helps my appetite, keeps my BP low (119/68, 58pulse), & lowers pressure in my eyes which keeps my vision good. | |

Rep Power: 193 | Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use I used to have major anxiety issues but smoking some good indica at night has helped me so much. Now most sativas don't work out for me. With the exception of 3rd eye, Ak47, and snow cap those are awesome daytime meds for me. To make a long story short. MMJ has helped me so much in the last year. I have stopped taking Lexapro and haven't needed Xanex at all because I have not had any anxiety attacks in a long time. I am not an all day smoker but I do like to light up around 7pm and relax and enjoy the rest of my evenings before bed. Oh and I always light up when I am enjoying a band at a club or a big concert. |

| Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use Great posts. I'm drooling from all the strains mentioned. I did take some time off - a week - and then smoked a bunch of Mango. DAMN! is about all I can say. Felt like the first time. Now I know the secret to MMJ. Sometimes, less is more. |

Rep Power: 11017 | Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use I'm fairly new to medicating and have found that for my depression taking the occasional edible works best. I did have a strange experience about a week ago. I had taken a small amount of a brownie and had a good nights sleep, the next day I had a very "stoned" feeling that lasted for about 1/2 an hour. Haven't had that happen since. |

Rep Power: 138 | Re: MMJ daily vs. sporadic use I've been medicating for over a decade on and off. I use cannabis on an as needed basis. Some days or weeks it's 4-5 x's a day sometimes it's 2-3x's a day. I try and medicate according to the situation and how I am feeling that day. For me it's one of the best benefits of using cannabis as a medicine. I can adjust the dose based on what I need. I too find occasional breaks to be very beneficial. Usually they are 3 days, sometimes 3 weeks. I especially like to use my break time to see how the symptoms of my conditions are without the use of any medication. It let's me get a feel for whether I'm getting better or worse or just staying the same. It also allows me to find out which varieties work best for me and my symptoms. For depression I don't need to smoke all day every day. I can see a noticable improvement in my symptoms for a couple of days after I've medicated. For concentration and distraction I need to medicate more often. Good luck finding what works best for you. I think it's the way medicine should be, do what works best for you. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Blessed be~ |
