Rep Power: 814 | low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression Ok here's the thing I have depression, I've had it for years, it's a constant battle, been on anti-depressants, taken various supps etc. Ok so when I smoke mary jane heavy I get really high but then I burn out hard, like I will just be really down and not want to do anything and this makes my depression worst. So I read a study saying exactly that when you smoke a lot your depression worsens but it said when you smoke low doses it is a potent anti-depressant. Ok so I want to know if anyone has tried just smoking not to get high but just to improve mood slightly. Like lets say you only take 1 or 2 small hits off a pipe or something. Heres the study http://depression.about.com/b/2007/1...-low-doses.htm I want to know if this is true, I can't continue smoking the way I smoke, it just sucks the life out of me. I just don't talk or socialize with anyone, I just stay in my room all day watching youtube videos and thinking about how the government manipulates everyone. It gets me down, I want to feel alive again, i wanna get motivated to do stuff, If smoking weed in low doses can do that then i'm all for it. |

Oftentimes I don't even finish the very small bowl that I pack - I end up finishing it over two or three sessions. I have found that if I consume large amounts, or on a very regular basis, I increase my risk of anxiety or stupor, depending on the strain, and increase my risk of becoming dependent on it, and my symptoms end up being much worse than if I abstain completely and use other naturopathic forms of medicating, including meditation and positive thinking. So, there's a lot of factors involved in depression and there may be an underlying depressor you need to identify that must be treated first before any medication will work, including weed. So, find a good doctor. Figure out what's wrong with you first, and don't take "depression" as the answer. Say, "yes, I am depressed, but I want to know what's causing it? Do I have allergies? Do I have a defect in my sleep?" Tell them everything about your sleep, wake times, digestion, etc., the works! Demand an answer. I did. I got mine. I was vindicated when I found out. Everybody called me lazy cuz I was so tired all the time. ha. I was right! And, I forgive everybody for...NOT UNDERSTANDING I WAS LITERALLY DEAD TIRED FROM LIFELONG SLEEP DEPRIVATION. weiners..."go get a job." "Why do you look so tired?" "Go to bed early." "Go to bed late." "Get a night job." "Get a day job." "Get a swing shift job." "Run an eBay store." GET ME SOME FUCKING SLEEP!!! WHILE I AM FALLING ASLEEP I'LL RUN RIGHT OUT AND GET A JOB AND EXPLAIN TO THE PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER WHY I LOOKED SO TIRED...get what I mean? If something's wrong, find out. Don't take this lame "depression" for an answer. ...be prepared. Getting high is a side effect of medical marijuana. You either smoke shitty weed for a lesser effect or you smoke stronger weed to achieve symptom relief. If you ain't loving the relief, the side effect will bother you. If you are healthy and smoke too much, you will get lazy. If you're healthy, you only need weed once a week, period. If you are ill or have a medical condition, you may be doomed to a life of meds until a better technology comes along. But, it's not so bad once you get used to it, and when you stop, the side effects of being high go away, quickly. THERE IS NO VALID STUDIES THAT SHOW ANY ADVERSE EFFECTS FROM LONG TERM USE OF MARIJUANA. When you stop, you stop and the active cannabinoids get metabolized and you return to your normal state. If your normal state was ill or in pain, you will feel ill and in pain once you stop. If your normal state was smart, you'll be smart. If you were dumb and weed made you smart...you'll be dumb again, which means you need weed.

Its just weed was doing wonders at first then I guess i smoked too much and it wasn't working the same, i would get really burnt out and this I think is because I was getting too high for my own good. If I were to just use it as a mood balancer It would probably work better.

Rep Power: 11017 | Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression I found that for my depression a little bit works wonders. I found capsules (that I made myself) to be a great solution. Each capsule was enough to just barely feel the effects, but it would elevate my mood for several days. When I smoke I rarely have more than a few hits. You may want to try different strains as well. For me the Sativa strains tend to make me anxious and sometimes paranoid, Indicas tend to just mellow me out. |

I did notice though that when I did smoke MJ, it didn't have enough power to zap me out of my madness. The only drugs I know of that work for that are all pharms. However, maybe you're the type who can manage it with only MMJ. My method is - light amounts during the afternoons, and heavy stones for the night time. Everyone is different. I hope you get back to feeling good ASAP. Good luck. |

Rep Power: 440 | Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression For several years I have taken various anti-depressants; prozac and bupropion being the most useful / effective (for a time). I did notice when on regular doses of these medications, I had to smoke or consume MORE MMJ to get the same effect. Particularly on bupropion. It was like it overpowered MMJ almost totally. LOW DOSE is like my favorite phrase to hear from a doctor at this point. IT means they aren't looking to overmedicate. With MMJ it is "up to us" and our wallets how much we consume. Gotta remember the "less is more" mantra more often. LOW DOSE MMJ seems like the best starting point, though for severe ongoing PAIN, (as I endured recently) the sky is the limit. Unfortunately, MMJ did not do a good job of relieving actual PAIN. (First time I really used it for that purpose). My usual MMJ "dose" is one or two moderate hits off a small glass pipe that usually generates about 4 good "hits" per bowl if "cornered" just so with the lighter. My **only** complaint about MMJ is how frequently one has to hit the pipe to maintain an effect. |

Rep Power: 4914 | Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression I use to suffer from depression and I still do every, once in awhile. but it was really bad at one point. i would just medicate and go on walks with my dog. we really became best friends, then we realized she had cancer and she died a week later. sorry for getting so personal, but my point is if it wasnt for weed, I wouldnt be as open minded as I am today. I came to realize that life is too short, to let the little things bother you. They still bother me from time to time, but its important to remind myself, we only have one life on this great and beautiful earth, we shouldnt waste time with negativety and negative thoughts. Its about helping each other and making the best we can with the time we have on this earth. As they say, happiness is the best medicine. this is just my philosophy anyways. |

Rep Power: 716 | Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression I suffer from major depression, and have been in counseling and been on a wide variety of differant pharmaceutical meds, but nothing works as well (for me anyway) as MMJ. I dont have the same negative side effects I was having with the pharmaceuticals. I am now better able to function and living a good life. |

Now as far as how you are smoking, everybody should just experiment with their meds. I love sativas during the day and indicas at night to knock me out. I usually just smoke one small joint of sativa during the day to give me a high and I smoke a bowl or two of indica to get stoned and for sweet dreams. But you should just experiment and see which meds/strains help and which are counterproductive. Hope all is well with you man. And remember: Nothing but Love, Peace, and Mary Jane.

Rep Power: 201 | Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression For depression, I find sativas to definitely help but the key is to find ones that don't drop you in the dumpster when they wear off. This goes the same for antidepressant meds as well, which is why lots of docs load you up with the pharmaceutical samples first as you try to find a good fit w/ minimal side effects. For whatever reason, I found a strain of indica that I'll take a light hit or 2 of at night. Any more than that and I actually can't sleep. I wake up mentally refreshed instead of the sober hang-over from the thinking that goes with depression. Prozac had a similar effect for awhile, except when it wore off the depression was made so much worse I thought I'd go insane. I also find the heavier indicas bringing me down after the intense high wears off. Maybe the lighter ones allow a person to work through the issues in a meditative state instead of the state that feels more drunk and disjointed, or flying off the rooftops for that matter. Its the difference between party-mode and therapy-mode. I also hesitate to ask for something 'lighter' at clubs because it might be interpreted as 'bring out the shwaggy stuff we cant get rid of'. |

| Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression Use organic cannabis whenever possible. Clean cannabis is non-toxic and safe. However, the pesticides/insecticides used in many of the quick buck indoor grows have harmful effects, both mental and physical. As an example, pesticides lower testosterone, causing depression, low energy, loss of libido, and weight gain/muscle loss. Less is more with cannabis. I love SkyWalker OG because of the intense body tingle and the energetic head buzz... Try to avoid the couch lock Meds that leave you shortly with that sleepy buzz or headaches... |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: low dose marijuana vs high dose marijuana and depression I too have suffered with depression and anxiety for years. I have taken many different meds - Proxac, Wellbutrin, Effexor, etc, etc. I have found no greater relief for my depression and anxiety than MJ. I know what you mean by tapering the dose to therapeutic. I seem to get the most relief from my depression by not over-doing it. If I smoke to heavy of an indica - takes all my energy and motivation away! A nice sativa and I feel uplifted - I am currently trying out some new strains. I do find that I get pretty down and weepy if I don't have any mj for a few days...anyone else get that effect? Anyway, best of luck to you. Take care and know that you are not alone :) |
