Rep Power: 3186 | Ever Quit Zoloft? I've been on it forever. It's great, but I'm nearly numb. I suppose it's an improvement from being in a horrible depression, which happened both times I tried to get off this stuff, and I thought I took it slow (quit over a 3 month period). Anybody ever gotten off of Zoloft after taking it for a long while? I'm not planning on doing anything without notifying my shrinky-dink, I'm just fed up with the damn side effects - all of them - but I don't want to slide back into depression. Anybody ever get off of this stuff? Let me know good or bad. Thanks. |

I cant belive i have berly any recolection of my younger years. I guess i Zoned out all the good/bad stuff due to the haze this drug puts you in. Once I turned 18 I droped it cold turkey. I was sick and fed up. I dont advise droping it at once. There are side effects- you can slump into a deeper depression. I did. the ended up putting me on Paxil and that stuff made me really sick and i had a bad reaction. Ive been med free for years now. I get depressive episods from time to time but imo its better to feel something then to feel nothing. If you decide to stop your zolof make sure you talk to your Dr. They will probably ween you off slowly which is safer. |

It may be possible to get yourself away form this drug by substituting a more inert medication, which can be dropped later. Good luck! |

Do a search on Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) & how to use St. John's Wort! I used it for 3-4 months, avoid cow products & alcohol, & took it twice a day (at breakfast & at dinner), for 2 weeks, then switched to once a day! =Judy= Posted via Mobile Device |

Rep Power: 20570 | Re: Ever Quit Zoloft? Depending on how long you have been taking a drug like Zoloft, you may very well need LONGER than 3 months to taper off... You basically need to retrain your brain to produce and regulate seratonin which the zoloft interfered with. Unlike most SSRI's zoloft doesnt seem to have a big impact on norepinephrine or dopamine so it's function is almost solely on seratonin.... which some folks believe makes it harder for the brain to "readjust" when you stop the zoloft... Consider talking to your Dr about a longer program to stop it... I only used it for a little more than a year, and the VA switched me to three or four others immediately after stopping zoloft.... I hated all of them, was EXCEEDINGLY tired of feeling like a zombie. Good luck. If you possibly can, work with your Doctor... tell him/her that your goal is to get off pharma drugs... and you want to do it as intelligently as possible... if he resists.... remind him you hired him as a consultant in your health care, not as the director of your health care.... |
