There's a pretty big ruckus going on in LA with MMJ. There's a lot
of noise coming from the City Attorney and the City Council. Why is
our Mayor so completely silent on this.

Villarigosa was a big supporter of Obama's, so it not any great leap
to assume that he would be pro-mmj. Why then do we not hear from him
at all?

He is the Mayor after all.

Villaraigosa campaigned for Hillary Clinton. He wasn't the Obamafiend you're making him out to be.

Don't you remember that during the primaries?

The "friggin" flying is the operative motive, I think. He wanted to fly to D.C. and hang at the White House, be a big shot. Geez, he's gone there, how many times?

VooDoo, what do you think motivated the mayor to support Hillary Clinton? Do you think it was racial, in the sense he thought the latino community here had racist tendencies? This is LA, after all.

Just wondering if you had an opinion.

If ya ask me, the Mayor and the Clintons had a dealeo worked out. California be the big electoral prize, ya know. I'm sure she was gonna hook'em up with either (1) a sweet job in her administration or (2) she agreed to help him out in a run for Governor.

Take a look at the track record of past mayors. They never do anything to get in the way of council or public opinion. They are simply there to look pretty and to try and show up at local sports events for camera time!

Remember the L.A. riots? The backbone of our mayors of L.A. is weak and we could really use someone like Mayor Daley (Chicago) who's destined to make things better for everyone

EDIT: i dont listen to the radio often... but the guy that does the voice for Villarigosa on the Kevin & Bean show is halarious. Its all Tony Montana like and very funny

My guess is V is silent for the same reason that must politicians remain silent on controversial, pending issues...he'd rather watch other people throw mud at eachother than join in, take a stance, and risk getting hit...

because mmj is ultimatly a civil rights issue, silence and inaction are tacit support of persecution.

Jerry Brown seems more positive MMJ than any other high level politician. His
directives were IMO a big plus for MMJ.

Villa is silent because at this point he has no say in the matter. Of note however is the strong dislike/hate between Villa and Trutanich. If that can be cultivated carefully, there might be an upside to this at a later date.

OK. I admit that I don't understand what the powers of the Mayor are
with respect to the city council, but I thought that the Mayor had some
say or at least a vote or at least some influence over the city council. Ditto
for the City Attorney.

Riordan seemed to be pretty active as mayor. At least more active
than Mister V.
